Sonos Play 5: Sonos Play 5: Gen 1 (Not Powering)

My Sonos Play 5: Gen 1 is great but has unfortunately, stopped working. I’ve checked the fuse in the power connector and it’s fine. I’ve done some research and have realised that there’s actually a glass fuse on the power board inside the speaker which, is what i’m looking to investigate… I don’t know if this problem is popular or not but I have contacted Sonos support and still haven’t gotten a reply so i’m willing to fix it myself. My main questions are;

What could be the problem and am I likely to fix it?

If I take a look inside the speaker am I prone to breaking anything or ruining the factory assembly by taking it apart, e.g. will it ruin the performance of the speaker and will things rattle about?

Please let me know,

Thanks.

Sonos Play 5: Sonos Play 5 fails to turn on.

One day my Play 5 died. I suspect the pcb fuse next to the power terminal; however, that usually leads to a diode downstream being blown as well. As I can find no schematic of any kind, I hesitate to operate on this corpse without some encouragement and hopefully a tip as to which diode to test.

There is a Play 5 teardown section, but nowhere to select it in the drop down “Choose a Device”.

Hi,

My Sonos Play 5 (Gen 1) is blowing the internal high voltage fuse immediately when i'm turning the power on. Anybody who can assist with a schematic of the PCB or any who have seen this kind of problem before?

For info, I'm currently sitting on the northsea on a olieplatform and there is a bit lack of spare parts. But i have the most standards parts.

Sonos Play 5: Upgrading of, memory or processor, possible?

Is it possible to upgrade the memory or processor in a Sonos Play 5 Gen1?

I just received an email from Sonos saying,

End of software updates

In May, the following products in your system will be classified as legacy and no longer receive software updates and new features. This will affect your listening experience.

Legacy products were introduced between 2005 and 2011 and, given the age of the technology, do not have enough memory or processing power to sustain future innovation.

Please note that because Sonos is a system, all products operate on the same software. If modern products remain connected to legacy products after May, they also will not receive software updates and new features.

this seems very wasteful, (sending millions of speakers worldwide to landfill), to me as I have several of these speakers and they all work fine.

I spent a couple of thousand on these speakers, “they work perfectly”, and do not want to spend more money and send these to landfill.

Thanks

Sonos Play 5: Works fine but with intermittent loud pops and cracks

I've been given an old Play 5 which I've given a factory reset and update, and it's now on my S1 network with half a dozen other Sonos products, all of which work fine.

This Play 5 seems to work perfectly, except that every now and then it emits a loud pop or crack noise. These usually come in bursts for a few seconds, and then it can be a few minutes of an hour or so until it does it again. The volume of the noise is the same, irrespective of the volume level of the speaker, it also occurs when the speaker is paused,

Interestingly, it does not come through headphones if they are plugged into it, but it does appear that when headphones are plugged in that the speaker may still be emitting a very low volume pops or cracks.

I've tried all the different app related settings for the speaker, including volume limiting, EQ, Loudness, etc, I've also tried changing the wireless channel and using wired LAN, but nothing changes the issue.

I'd be very grateful if anyone has any ideas as to what causes this and whether it's fixable.

Thanks, Martin
