Schwinn Tourist: Why aren't my rear brakes working?

Before I go on I'm not familiar with bicycle repair so I apologize if I can't explain things correctly. I have a Schwinn tourist with rear brakes that won't work. The front brakes seem to work fine to me, but what it looks like to me is that the wire connecting the rear brake handle and the brakes themselves is loose. What I've tried so far is unscrewing the brakes and placing them on both the lower and higher position option there are (they were originally in between the higher and lower hole), hoping that by doing this it would somehow tighten the wire, but it still won't do. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

I have a Schwinn 26” Frontier with a loose crank. I tried tightening it and the crank is still loose but now my bearings make a loud squealing sound every five or six turns. How do I fix it?

Schwinn Tourist: Why does my bike randomly not work (when peddling wont go)

Awhile back my bike, when peddling would randomly become loose for lack of a better term. At the moment whenever stopping it would act as if the chain fell off but upon inspection the chain and gears are fine, whenever this would happen i would continue peddling till it "locked in" which i've been calling it. When this issue happend i looked at the gears and chain on the bike to find the problem but everything was moving fine, so i believe it has to do something with the back wheel and the rear gears.
