Razer Blade 15: Random Shutoffs with no Error Message

Hello, I purchased a Razer Blade 15 two years ago (2019) and am just now coming across an issue where it’ll power off randomly.

Doing my due diligence I opened up the back and lo and behold the battery was swollen to $@$*. I removed the battery, and attempted to run on AC only, however the random power offs still remain. Please advise, and thank you.

Razer Blade 15: Should I replace LCD or only ribbon cable (if possible)?

Hi,

My 2018 razer blade 15 (GTX 1070, 16gb RAM, Intel core i7-8750H, etc., ID: rz09-02386F91) could use some repairs.

Context:

The ribbon cable connecting the LCD to the motheboard is damaged at the hinge point (I believe this is a common issue), after a few weeks of the screen sometimes glitching a bit with temporary flickering, it is now only on (and responsive) when I partially lift the laptop screen (i.e., if I hinge the screen out past a certain angle it turns off).

Additionally, the microphone and webcam don't work (that's been the case for over 2 years), their own ribbon cable runs through with the LCD one.

Laptop is past warranty obviously, I haven't contacted razer support, but doubtful that they would help much.

Questions:

Can I replace the ribbon cable only (connecting LCD, microphone and webcam)?

If so do you know where I can find the part?

Or if I have to replace the LCD entirely, where can I find that/does it automatically come with a new ribbon cable?

Cable part number seen here:

Not sure what this is, might be proof of a previous repair:

Razer Blade 15: Battery bloat > Replaced Battery > no worky

My Blade RC30-0287 battery bloated two weeks ago to the point i saw a warning on the screen my machine was about to turn off. Afterwards i could not power on the laptop with/wo external power plugged in. So, being outside of warranty, i ordered a replacement battery with the fan shroud attached as an all in one replacement. This battery looks clean and in working condition but when i plugged it in, power button does nothing with/wo external power plugged in. Power brick has green light and thought, ok i have a bad battery again i guess. Submitted a return through ebay and ordered another battery from a different seller.

When i installed this battery temporally to check if power button would do anything, i saw the keyboard light up and screen came on to bios. So i turned off the machine, disconnected the battery to get it aligned right with the screw holes and when i plugged in the power connector for the battery to the board, i saw a white flash on the left side of the connector inside..no sparks. I was like ok great, somehow this battery is dead now or my motherboard is somehow eating up batteries.

I then pulled everything apart for inspection and see no components blown, no black markings or signs of anything blowing and unable to figure out what is going on with my power path.

Any schematic for testing the power path on this machine or at least a pinout for the battery connector to test the battery itself? in dire need at this point as my tshoot skills which should have led to me finding a blown component or some cause to this problem have led me nowhere.

Tried with the battery connected and external power disconnected and connected and no power signs unless i throw in the old bloated bad battery with power plugged in. When i do this, all i see is keyboard backlight and power LED red for a few and then it just does a loop until i power off.

I noticed the power from my brick, measured at the connector side shows only about 4vds when measured from ground to center pin. This brick is supposed to output 19vdc but unsure if thats controlled via signaling from the machine. When i measure the posts off connector on the board (right side of pic) with the power cable in and battery connected, see same 4vdc rating.

Diode test on MM shows what looks like a short on one side of most the caps. I see two IC chips here in the PIC with blue marking which pin is shorted. Likely one of the IC chips is the issue? CAPs in the pic show side with short, pretty much all of them in this pic have a short on one side. ICs look primising?

Razer Blade 15: Razer Blade 15 (rz09-03519) motherboard repair - no power

I’m trying to fix this laptop, which suddenly couldn’t turn on. When I keep the power button pressed for 10 seconds I get a white light flashing but other than that, no sign of life. I checked the power adapter, I get 20V. Checked the power pins: everything’s ok. Checked the MOSFETs: they seem alright, I get 20V from drain or source to ground, and 5v from gate to source (25v from gate to ground).

I’ve checked the large capacitors, they’re fine. I often see 3.3V and 5V on the multi, so I’m guessing the power rails are fine.

The components circled on the picture are « shorted », but I don’t know whether they have continuity because they are fuses (red circle) or coils (blue circle).

This is the first time I attempt such repair. I’ve been watching hours of Louis Rossman and Northridge Fix to get some insights, but no luck so far. Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

Also: how can you visually tell an inductor, a capacitor or a fuse apart?

This laptop sucks. I cannot imagine how people figure out their way around these irrational builds.

Someone please, show me how to actually remove the battery.

The screws come out yes, but the battery does not.

Am O suppose to just rip this thing out and hope there's not some other connector or anchor I'm going to break (like the heat sink)

Razer Blade 15: Laptop's IPS screen has vertical & horizontal lines.

Hi, I have razer blade 15 base (2021) with IPS screen and it got vertical and horizontal lines. there are one vertical and one horizontal line which are changing color and also several dimmed horizontal lines on 50% of screen which are flickering when screen is showing video.

sometimes area gets bigger like this and sometimes they disappear. (this is a picture while I was running jscreenfix)

Also screen has some electrical sparkle noise on the bottom.

I may be wrong, but intuition tells me that there is no physical damage, because it didn’t experience drop and I was more gentle with closing/opening than while removing tape during disassembling(I even have bent it a little and it didn’t added any new damage). So, before I buy replacement, what problems there may be besides of physical damage and how can I fix them?

Also I would appreciate to know if it’s possible to replace with QHD 165 HZ panel (currently I have FHD 144HZ)?

Razer Blade 15: My usb type c port is not working on my blade 15 (2020)

so i’ve got a razer blade 15 base model (early 2020) and i’ve been using the type c port on the right side to use my valve index. up until a few days ago everything was working fine. now when i try to use it nothing is coming up on steam vr and the port isn’t being recognized as a type c or a 3.0 even though it is. i’ve tried reinstalling drivers, resetting pc, just about everything besides replacing the port. which i’ve never done. any help is greatly appreciated
