Business Development: Need advice and tips before starting a repair business

Hello! I have been starting to fix phones for a lot of my friends quite often, I also work at a iPhone LCD refurbishing business which gives simplicity in getting screens for my repairs.

I'm thinking about going full force into the repair business basically by posting ads, making business cards, etc. I don't intend to rent out a shop or anything just become a mobile iphone repair tech on the side of my main job.

What is some advice you can give me to help me before starting out? Additionally, are you a mobile repairman or do you own a shop? What are occurances and problems you've ran into that could be solved more easily with the right preparation?

I already figured a good thing would be to have backup and extra's of everything, screws, backplate's, camera's and such.

I'm also curious, is there any difference between a 6s and 6s plus front facing camera ? My boss tells me there are and it's not that I don't believe him I just don't understand how there could be differences between them. I know the back camera in the 6s+ has OIS unlike the 6s, but thats all I can think of.

Thanks for reading.

My main 5 brands I can get for batteries are vividfx, ampsentrix, fullbar, powercell, and xcap.

I'm not affiliated with them, but I've had major hit and miss with ampsentrix, fullbar, and vividfx

And when I Google those brands I can't find many reviews, any input or recommendation is needed, thanks!

Business Development: iPhone repair business tips- parts, equipment, profits

Hi

fpr the past 18 months I have been fixing iPhones, by buying them broken off eBay, fixing them and selling them for a profit. It seems like there is a lot of competition when buying these broken phones and eBay selling fees take up a lot of the profits. I have also done a few screen replacements for people my dad works with - he is is construction so knows a lot of people with broken phones - I can buy screens for the phones for between £15 for a 5s and 25-30 for a 6s or 7, I haven’t done any newer phones than that. I charge usually £50 for the screen replacement but I can do pretty much any repair.

i would like to know from anyone out there who does this kind of thing if they find it profitable to buy and sell phones off eBay, or to fix phones for customers without a repair shop. I would like to know if people that do this use refurbished screens, as I used one on my sisters phone which was excellent but cost about £35 which makes profits a lot less. Where to buy screens in uk, especially in bulk?

should I buy and sell on eBay or is there better places?

i was also looking into buying custom chassis from AliExpress and buying a cracked phone from eBay, and making a custom phone but at not sure if that is profitable either.

another thing, is it easy to get into logic board repairs, and if so, how much would I need to spend on a microscope and soldering equipment, providing that it is profitable enough and you can either buy broken phones or get customers to send you them.

Also for some background I don’t have a shop or a very large space, just a bedroom. I currently know iPhone 5-7 like the back of my hand and also have don’t a couple galaxy s8 repairs, which I made £90 on one of them.

I know this is an unusually complicated question but any help would be appreciated, even if it just answers one part of my question

Pro Tech Network: Need advice on first purchases for start up

I'm tired of working 16 hr day for some one else. I am unemployed for the first time in my life and I'm 27. I found a passion in repairing phones and tablets after I had to learn to repair my son's ipad air 2 because I could not afford what a shop wanted to do the job. I have always had a good work ethic and Its time to build something with it that will last and I can pass down to my children.

I'm trying very hard with side and odd jobs to save enough money to purchase a couple machines like a LCD seperator and bubble remover to make myself profitable in the repair business. What all do I need to make sure it's done 100% to ifixit standards and is there any were you recommend to buy used machines for a guy that cannot get loan because of mistakes I made when I was younger

Getting Started: What kind of liability insurance do you carry?

I am a sole proprietor. What kind of liability insurance can I buy to cover my business? My biggest concern is data loss of a customers computer. Other possibilities are breaking the hardware, but that can be replaced. I would also like loss due to fire or theft. Hopefully I'll never have to use the insurance, but I'd like to cover myself.

Second question, I would like a customer release form. Something to the general effect that they will not hold me liable as long as I take reasonable precautions and do good work. Most of my business revolves around fixing windows issues, but I occasionally also work on hardware. Are there any generic forms out there that I can use or tweak?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Pro Tech Network: Parts and Inventory - What should be carried? Where do you source?

Hello All,

I am starting a small PC / Mac repair shop and have some questions about parts and inventory that hopefully someone can help answer. What parts should you have on hand? How many parts should you have on hand at any given time? If you don't have a part needed for a repair, what's the best way to get that part in a timely manner while still making a profit? When it comes to sourcing parts, I'm unsure of what to do. I have a wholesale account with iFixit that I can use to order good parts for mobile devices, but I don't see any parts for computers. I want to source quality parts, but at a good price for the devices that I fix. I could easily go to a nearby Microcenter or Bestbuy and buy the part, but the price would be way more than what I want to charge the customer. So my question to you is where can I start when to comes to finding a reliable place to source parts? How much should I be spending on parts as a startup?

Thank you all for the help!
