i have a power mac g4, it has 2mb of cache but i run a software called tech tool pro, it say that the cache of my computer is 234k, thats vary slow, i wonder to know is a way to restore the cache!

I purchased a G4 quicksilver from a thrift shop and found it had no hard drive in it

I have installed a second hand known good hard drive that i used "macdrive" on a pc to format into the G4 and powered it up, i get a "boing" and a face on the monitor.

I am unable to figuire out how to open/eject the optical(CD) drive.

Being a PC user and dabler to a small extent I would like to use this machine to learn the apple as i am unfamilier with the way of the mac and its terms

Power Mac G4 Quicksilver: Pressing power button does not turn on

Pressing the power button, Unit does not turn on. Button lights up for a split second, drive does not turnover. Disconnecting power cord and reconnecting does not help. Is the problem the power button or the drive?

So I got one of these machines for free, I plug in mouse, keyboard and monitor. I turn it on and screen would be dark, fan would run and it would make long sound.

I need it running so what do I do?

But there's one problem, I got a G4 Logicboard, but i cant difference from other G4 Logicboards, so I dont know, if it's a "Quicksilver" etc.

How can i notice, which one it is?

So there's the problem:

I wanna test my Logicboard, but I dont know how I can test it without a PowerMac case!

Power Mac G4 Quicksilver: processor upgrade - swap from faster QS - compatibility issues?

Hello!

I have a single processor, 733mhz Quicksilver '01. It's been heavily upgraded, with three hard drives, maxed out RAM, and a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. I recently loaded Leopard on it, in order to have compatibility with some updated apps I need to run, and it works well despite the unsupported config. Of course, it's very slow.

I found a nice dual-800 Mhz CPU online for a reasonable price, which would more than double the speed of the QS and make Leopard usable. It was pulled out of a Mac somebody is parting out - a Quicksilver 2001 - so it's an actual Apple part.

My question is simple - as it's from the same model G4, with the same bus speed and presumably the same mother board, I would assume it's compatible - but is it? Do I need a firmware or ROM update? Other than that, it should be a simple upgrade once I get it!

Can using a geforce 6200 agp with taped pin 3 + 11 and apple firmware bios brick the cpu? I have a quicksilver 933 and it worked fine for 2 days, even done some work in illustrator on it, and then when I left it running Leopard and came back it was frozen, restarted and it gave the bong and 3 power led flashes. Swapping the CPU board fixes it.

I have a Power Mac G4 OS 9.2.2 900 MHz processor. On home page of IP, Charter Communications, takes forever and doesn't load the home page (or any website page). At bottom status bar as if it is processing and loading but does not. In address bar at top shows IP home page: but all that eventually shows up before screen freezes is a skeletal version of their home page (links at top to login or go to email, etc.) but all the visual photos, news, etc. don't come up. Even double-clicking in the blank fields does not bring anything up.

In other words, there are a lot of blank squares or fields. Changed my ethernet cable to a shorter one as it is hardwired into our router (it was behind stuff against a wall. This helped somewhat. (It worked fine until about year ago. (Been using my eMac for the internet.)

i had a macbook pro but it died. i want to use the hard drive from it in or with a power mac g4 desktop computer i also own because it still works. i know the stuff is old. getting new computers is not an option for me so i have to make this work. I know its possible i just want some direction because i have never built a computer entirely myself.

What is the best way to get my laptop computers hard drive including hopefully its operating system to work in the G4?

I need a new fan, but I don't know the part number (or where I can get one) - or what this particular fan is called so I can order a new one? I looked at the teardown and by removing the two screws next to the ethernet, usb, firewire etc., ports on the back I can remove and replace my now very noisy fan which is on the other side - it just started getting noisy a week ago. Power Mac G4 Quicksilver: Firewire does not work

I think I forced a firewire cable backwards into one of the jacks and the firewire has not worked since then. I need to fix it but don't know how much hardware I need to replace. It does not appear to be on a card. I have no empty PCI slots on this computer because it's running an early version of Pro Tools. So I guess I need to know how put new Firewire into this old dog? Thanks

I've got a couple of dual processor Quicksilvers with failed or failing CPU fans. I'm doing lots of searching, but there isn't much around that I can find, and what I have found is usually used. If I'm going to replace it and spend at least $15 on a machine that's worth < $100, I'd rather have a new fan so I don't have to do it again before the whole thing dies.

Wondered if anyone had suggestions on locating new replacement fans for these guys. The original Sunon fan p/n and specs are:

KDE1206PTV1 MS.AS

60mm x 60mm x 25mm

MagLev

2-pin connector on cable approx. 3.75" long from housing (including connector)

DigiKey shows fans similar to this in the "obsolete" category. And this link seemed promising, but turns out to be from overseas and used condition:

So Whenever i insert my AirPort Card Into The Tower, A Chime Does Happen, but it shows up with a blank screen, and whenever i take the card out, it works perfectly fine, How can i fix this issue?

Power Mac G4 Quicksilver: Powers up but with no chime and a black screen.

I have a Power Mac G4 Quicksilver 2002 800MHz that will power on when the power button is pressed but will not boot. The button will illuminate but only when it is being pressed. All the fans except for the CPU/logic board fan spins up. The red diagnostic light on the motherboard lights up when the Power Mac is on. The hard drive appears not to be spinning up when the Power Mac is on. There is no chime and a black screen as well. If I press and hold the power button the Power Mac does turn off. I can also power on the Power Mac with an iMac G3 keyboard that has a power button on it, but I cannot use the same button to turn the Power Mac off. I have replaced the PMU battery and pressed the CUDA button and also tried different RAM sticks, but the Power Mac is still acting the same. I’ve even powered it on with no sticks of RAM in it to see if I’d get an error beep code, but the Power Mac still does the same thing. I’m guessing that the power supply would be the problem but they are expensive when looking on eBay so I wanted to know if there are any other things I can try first that could possibly fix the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Power Mac G4 Quicksilver: No power, power button light blinks once

Having an issue with a Power Mac G4 that’s not powering on. Here’s a video of what happens when I press the power button:

Nothing happens after that one blink. No fan spin, nothing at all. Any ideas? I’ve replaced the PRAM battery and tried running at minimal config.
