Power Mac G4 Cube: Innards Stuck Inside The Case

Hi, so a week ago, i bought some more ram to put in my cube, to speed it up a little bit. When i went to open it, I pushed down on the handle, it popped up, and when i grabbed it to pull the innards out, they wouldn't budge! I can't get my cube apart. It works fine, i can plug it in and use it like normal, but can't open it. I bought it about 4 years ago second-hand during the "Cube Craze" as a neat thing to keep on my desk. Does anyone have any idea how to get this thing apart? I've tried shaking it, orienting it in every direction, before pulling it out, but have had no success.

Also,I'd like to put an airport wifi card in the machine as well... is the new Airport Xtreme compatible, or should I use the older Airport card?

Power Mac G4 Cube: What optical replacement drives is possible to fit into the Cube?

I've just bought myself a slightly used Cube, and the biggest problem is that the optical drive accepts discs, and reads them as well, but it won't dismount the discs.

AKA disc is stucked in the optical drive.

I have been looking for a replacement drive, but feels a little uncertain witch model that will fit right on.

Please feel free to recommend any drive that sales as of today, or perhaps is still on stock at iFixit.

Thanks / Jonas

Power Mac G4 Cube: Is there a documentation for the power supply?

I haven't got a power supply for my Power Mac G4 Cube.

Is the 4 pin connector of the power supply documented somewhere so i can rebuild it?

Hi!

Thx for your answer but as i wrote above, i don't have a power supply and therefore don't know a EEE number.

I'm looking for the electrical specs and the pin layout to re-build a power supply by myself.

Power Mac G4 Cube: Why does my Cube take for ever to power on

Hi guys,

so recently I‘ve noticed that my Cube takes really long to turn on. Like minutes. Also when I put the cable into the outlet it takes a couple of minutes for the green led on the bottom to turn on. Does anybody have an idea what could cause the problem?

Also I might have to note that I live in Germany so we have 230V mains voltage, if there is any known defect in European Cubes.

Thanks for your help!

Power Mac G4 Cube: Can you repair/replace the Firewire bus in a G4 Cube?

Can you feasibly repair or replace the Firewire bus in a Power Mac G4 Cube?

My Cube’s Firewire bus burned out last year after I plugged in an Acer Firewire DVD drive. Now the ports convey neither data or charge.
Looking at the ports, they look distinct from the rest of the I/O, and I’ve seen sale listings for discreet Firewire modules for other Power Mac G4s on eBay.
My Cube still runs fine otherwise, and I can easily add new files simply by removing the SSD and plugging it into a different computer, but the dead Firewire ports make it much less practical.
Can you repair or replace the Firewire bus in a G4 Cube?

Power Mac G4 Cube: Core is stuck inside case

Picked up a G4 Cube at a yard sale a few weeks ago. Computer’s “core” is stuck inside the clear plastic case, will not come out when I use the built-in latching handle. I recall seeing (a while back) that the core can become stuck if the Optical Drive is installed wrong, but I don’t know if that’s the situation here. Anyone experience this? Any recommendations for getting the core unstuck (that don’t involve destroying the machine)??

Power Mac G4 Cube: Will MacBook R/W optical drive fit/work in a Cube 450?

I have a R/W DVD drive which I saved from a trashed MacBook pro 2006 (pre-unibody). Clearing out my attic I unpacked my old Cube 450 and decided to try to find practical use for it again. I have all the original parts and it’s working fine. Replaced the HD with a 120Gb SSD which made it a bit faster and totally silent, so it’s quite satisfying.

Now I’m just thinking that perhaps I could make use of the old DVD-R/W that’s lying around collecting dust and replace the original CD-Rom… would it fit? Would it work? Anybody out there has suggestions? Thanks… /cer

Power Mac G4 Cube: No boot screen while Cinema Display is connected

Hello ifixit community! I am having a very annoying issue with my Power Mac G4 Cube and Apple Cinema Display. Whenever the cube is connected to a VGA monitor, I get a proper boot screen, but whenever the Cinema Display is connected there is no boot screen but the screen displays a picture once OS X has booted up. The weird thing is, I remember the Cube showing a boot screen on the Cinema Display just fine before attempting to install Mac OS 9. Any help is appreciated!
