Power Mac G5 Late 2005: Water cooling block won’t come out

I bought an untested power Mac G5 yesterday to hopefully use the case for a modern rebuild. However when I opened it up the coolant had leaked all over the PSU and radiator. Even when I removed all 8 of the screws it won’t come off and just rocks around.

Have I missed a screw or something or has the coolant done more damage than I first thought?

Could it be that coolant has corroded the socket pins together?

Power Mac G4 Cube: Can you repair/replace the Firewire bus in a G4 Cube?

Can you feasibly repair or replace the Firewire bus in a Power Mac G4 Cube?

My Cube’s Firewire bus burned out last year after I plugged in an Acer Firewire DVD drive. Now the ports convey neither data or charge.
Looking at the ports, they look distinct from the rest of the I/O, and I’ve seen sale listings for discreet Firewire modules for other Power Mac G4s on eBay.
My Cube still runs fine otherwise, and I can easily add new files simply by removing the SSD and plugging it into a different computer, but the dead Firewire ports make it much less practical.
Can you repair or replace the Firewire bus in a G4 Cube?

Power Mac G5 Late 2005: Model number and or Datasheet for Powermac G5 Late 2005 System Chipset

As part of a small reverse engineering project of the PowerMac G5 Late’ 05, is it at possible to find a Datasheet or reference manual on the main System Chipset / Memory Controller as found on the backside of the mainboard. In earlier models this was called the “U3” chip, I have heard that in newer models this was changed to the “U4” memory controller.

I am new to posting questions here and am sorry if this is the wrong place.

Here’s an Image of the Chipset I found Online.

Power Mac G4 Cube: Core is stuck inside case

Picked up a G4 Cube at a yard sale a few weeks ago. Computer’s “core” is stuck inside the clear plastic case, will not come out when I use the built-in latching handle. I recall seeing (a while back) that the core can become stuck if the Optical Drive is installed wrong, but I don’t know if that’s the situation here. Anyone experience this? Any recommendations for getting the core unstuck (that don’t involve destroying the machine)??

I acquired a PowerMac G5 with a bad power supply. I just replaced it with a working one from eBay, however when I plug the power cord into the back of the machine I hear a clicking noise and a white light over the power button flashes for a quick second.
Power Mac G4 Quicksilver: How to power 4 hard drives internally

Ok, I know I’m going retro with this. This is the 933Mhz model. I’ve been doing some upgrading and I noticed that it has the ability to instal 4 internal hard drives. a dual bay if you will at the back, and two single mounts in the middle and up front. However, there’s only enough molex connectors to power three drives. There’s an additional two at the top of the case for the dvd and ZIP drives, but those are used. The one for the ZIP is too short to reach anyways.

Was this option only there for RAID? If so, did the controller card somehow provide another power connector? I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t seem to find it.

Power Mac G5: G5 wont boot any ideas other than Power Supply?

It has been zapped by a power surge while on or something of the like (surge/drop etc). It was recently-along with an ADC surge protector and my modem. ADC replaced the surge protector and the modem and gave me money for damage. FYI

I took it to shop- they told me it was in working order. They took parts from an older non working tower and swapped them (basically swapped video cards and ram). It worked for a day or 2 then no more. Then I took it to my brother (the shop obviously didnt know what they were talking about) and my brother said it booted up fine for him. He though I was crazy, EO. I went over to his house a month later to swap parts or figure it out on my own and he booted it up first hoping to show me it worked, and it did not boot. So we swapped power supplies. I did not test the PS when we had it out unfortunately.

QUESTIONS:

Is making the fans spin when testing a power supply really a concrete test? I tested the one we removed after I got it home. Fans spun fine on 14 & 23.

Any ideas on what this might be other than power supply? Do you think I can test PS when it is in the tower? I don’t think I can get all plugs unhooked without removing the processor.

I always get the click; the light (near the power button) sometimes comes on but not always. I have not tried the hair dryer trick yet.

Any ideas are welcome! I am at my wits end, they either work or are parted (which is better than garbage) but for some stupid reason I like this model-I know I’m not alone.

Power Mac G4 Cube: Will MacBook R/W optical drive fit/work in a Cube 450?

I have a R/W DVD drive which I saved from a trashed MacBook pro 2006 (pre-unibody). Clearing out my attic I unpacked my old Cube 450 and decided to try to find practical use for it again. I have all the original parts and it’s working fine. Replaced the HD with a 120Gb SSD which made it a bit faster and totally silent, so it’s quite satisfying.

Now I’m just thinking that perhaps I could make use of the old DVD-R/W that’s lying around collecting dust and replace the original CD-Rom… would it fit? Would it work? Anybody out there has suggestions? Thanks… /cer
