PowerBook G3 Wallstreet: Could my Powerbook run Mac OS X?

I have a disused Powerbook G3 Wallstreet sitting in a cupboard running Mac OS 8 and I was wondering if I could get it to run Mac OS X or even 10.6. I understand it is implausible but if I could change the logic board, processor, RAM, I/O etc, could it be done? If it could I could get more use out of it rather than it being a collectors item I would appreciate suggestions

PowerBook G3 Wallstreet: Can a Wallstreet running Jaguar use an external WI-FI card?

I have just won an auction for a spares/repair Wallstreet. Would this be able to cope with an external WI-FI card? I gather that it should be able to run Jaguar. I have seen one website selling plug in cards to allow use of USB & Firewire devices and I did spot an external WI-FI card but in small print it talked about 10.4 (Tiger) only. Has anyone been able to use wireless connections via a Wallstreet?

PowerBook G3 Wallstreet: Booting SSD drive from WallStreet.

I got a 8 Gig, SLC, IDE SSD drive for my WallStreet model. I wasn't sure if it would work with the classic Mac OS, since I couldn't find any articles about anyone trying this. Imagine my surprise when the Mac OS 8.5 CD found the drive, partitioned and formatted it with no problem! I also had no problems installing 8.5. However, after the reboot, I just get the flashing question mark. I've tried making it one partition instead of three, and redoing it a couple of times, but no luck. Everything is smooth until it's boot time.

Does anyone have any OpenFirmware tricks to force this to boot?

PowerBook G3 Wallstreet: Where could I find the correct charging cord for this PowerBook?

I have this PowerBook G3 Wallstreet and I have not been able to find a changing cord for it. Everywhere I look I only see things for only an iBook or newer PowerBook. I bought an iBook charger a little while ago and it worked with my iBook but I found out then that there were two different sizes of changing cords and that the one I got for my iBook did not work with my PowerBook. What cord size would be correct for this PowerBook and where would I be able to find one?

Thanks,

PowerBook G3 Wallstreet: Where is the display inverter on the Wallstreet?

I am attempting to replace the inverter on my Wallstreet. There isn't a guide for that procedure here, but I went through the display removal guide, expecting to find it under the clutch cover like the Pismo.

Well the joke was on me, as it wasn't there as I'd expected. I see that the inverter cable connector plugs directly into the logic board which leads me to believe that it is inside the display cover itself.

Am I missing something or does the inverter truly live inside the display cover?

Thank you so much!

PowerBook G3 Wallstreet: PowerBook showing no signs of life other than LED turning on

Hello! I have this nice powerBook G3 Wallstreet & the last time I used my laptop is when I erased a partition from my HD & then later cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol with the power cord disconnected. Later when I wanted to turn on the laptop, it did turn on, but with the diskette with the question mark icon. I loaded a MacOS 9.2 CD in to do a fresh install & re-booted the laptop by holding down Shift + FN + Control + Power as it told me in the sticker on the back, after that, I pressed power just to see that absolutely nothing was happening, not even the drive was spinning up, no light, no display, no nothing. I tried plugging it off & leaving it sit for 15 minutes straight. After that, I plugged it back it, & the green power LED lighted up & turned off 3 seconds later (always happened before the incident because the battery is dead) & tried powering it on again, but still nothing. I tried pressing the key combination that I used to power off the laptop (Shift + FN + Control + Power) & the LED lit up again letting me know the power had been reset, but it still doesn't boot up.

That's as far as I went, it just won't boot up, resetting the PRAM with Option + Command + R + P doesn't work neither, as you need the computer to boot up for that.

PowerBook G3 Wallstreet: Problems with startup and speakers

I have a Powerbook G3 Wallstreet 233mhz with varying startup problems. Once I plug in the AC adapter, the fans spin very loud and the green light illuminates for a couple seconds. After that the computer becomes silent. When I press the power button, both speakers emit a buzzing/chirping sound and the system starts up. The buzzing/chirping sound continues as long as the computer is on. Sometimes the computer will get to the screen that says "Mac OS 9.2" and then display an error message with a bomb and it will say "A system error occured. Please restart your computer." I have already tried reseating the processor card and examining the hard drive. Any help is appreciated.

PowerBook G3 Wallstreet: How to get the PCMCIA slot to hold the card again?

I ejected a PCMCIA card that I was using in the upper slot, by pushing the two buttons in the case. Now when I try to insert it again, it doesn't stay put. I've been looking with some light inside, but can't see nothing weird or different to the inferior slot.

How can I unlock it again without having to dismantle the whole thing, is there a way? At least, it seems to me that when you remove the heat shield you can see the interior of the module. But I don't know what to look for.

Any help is much appreciated. It's the first time this happens to me, and while I can still use the inferior slot, I would like to use them both.

Thank you!

Update (04/15/23)

Ok, after a couple hours I learnt that you can use the little hole beside the slot, not only to release a card but also, to release a locked mechanism. So I inserted the end of a paperclip, heard a noise "Ding" and it was working as always again…

Hope this helps someone.
