PlayStation 4: unit turns on, beeps 3 times and turns off

when power button pressed, the unit turns on, the fan and hard drive spin up, and then 3 beeps and off (blue light)

I got this unit from my friend and lets just say that the insides are in... suboptimal quality to say the least. most screws are loose/missing and the heatsink retainer was installed backwards etc.

if anyone can tell me the solution to this, it would be GREAT.

Edit: turns out i need to tension the back braket, and while doing so, the unit stayed longer on, the light turned from blue to white, and then red with 3 beeps, and off

Thanks!

Update (04/07/26)

It turns out, that the APU heatsink tension thingy at the back was not tight enough, the unit works fine after tensioning it.

PlayStation 4: PS4 won't turn on (No light or Beep)

I have had my PlayStation4 since release and just recently it started to give me issues. The PS4 is connected to a working power socket and plug in correctly, however I can't get the PS4 to respond (turn on) in anyway. It won't turn on at all, I get no light or beep like others have. The PS4 won't turn on for the Controller or Disk input. Noting out of the norm changed so I don't understand what would have caused this. No falls, no power outages, no over heating. Any ideas? can this even be fixed?

PlayStation 4: Update file corrupted su-30645-8 on usb with new hard drive.

I got this PS4 from someone. It didn't come with a hard drive he told me it would not take updates via usb. I installed a new hard drive tried 10 different thumb drives and about 5 different hard drives. Still get the same error; I have been using the big update file for new hard drive installations.

I have also tried fat32 and exfat I saw somewhere on the forum where someone said the size needed to be below 4kb so I tried as well when formatting along with full formats. The update need to be 2.50 and above so I have tried every update from 2.50 up to 3.50.

I've seen people with brand new consoles have the same issues. They got a new hard drive to get the same error and they have tried the original hard drive to also get the same error.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what it might be?

PlayStation 4: No display after soldering new hdmi chip.

Hey there!

I'm having an issue with a ps4 with no display, I replaced the hdmi IC chip on the motherboard, and it still won't show any picture. Model is CUH-1216B, and the motherboard is SAC-001. Is it possible that it might be the APU fault (the light after switching on is white), or maybe one of the hdmi coils/filters (one of them seems to be different from the others, but continuity checks on all of them)????

PlayStation 4: ps4 turns on for a second, beeps 3 times then shuts off

My console was overheating so I tore it down and replaced the thermal paste (4ish year old console). The fan was running before, but clearly not well because the console shut off on me when I was playing a game. The inside is clean and free of dust, new thermal paste and pads have been applied. Put it back together and now I'm getting a single beep, fan kicks on, then it immediately beeps 3 times and shuts off.

PlayStation 4: Cannot Insert Discs to PS4

I'm assuming what's pictured is the guard raised to keep the disc in the optical drive when one is inserted.

Utilizing the manual release did not lower it.

Resetting the device in safe mode did not resolve the issue.

Am I correct in assuming this is what keeps the disc in the drive?

Any idea on a manual reset? I can press it down but it pops right back up.

Sorry for the blurry image. If you can make out the black plastic guard that's what I'm referring to.

UPDATE

One of the rollers came out of place which caused the guard to remain up.

New issue - it will not "accept" a disc. I can now insert the disc but it will not auto feed. I can use the manual eject screw to insert/remove the disc but it will not read. I've tried different tightness and it seems to try to spin the disc at a certain point (with lots of noise) but fails to read it.

if the system is powered on with the disc partially inserted the system appears to be cable of ejecting it.* The eject button no longer responds...

PlayStation 4: Faulty disk drive and su-42118-6 error

I have inherited a faulty PS4 for free as my friend said it was “mildly broken” after he opened it up to clean it and put it back together.

The issues are :

disk drive doesn’t take disks, the disc won’t go in, I have opened up PS4 and no immediate problems or blockages that I can see

I get error su-42118-6 when I try and update the PS4. I have tried to install the file from USB in Safe Mode and get same issue.

PlayStation 4: How make my fan run full speed?

Hi there!

I have the original ps4 (the big one) from 2013. Recently I realized how slow the fan is and how hot the ps4 gets. Personally would never bother about that but I get literally pretty big lags in games which I assume are coused by thermal throttling since after an hour you can’t touch the top of the ps4 bear hand.

I took it apart cleaned the whole motherboard with pure a Alcohol, cleaned the fan and heat sink thoroughly and applied new thermal compound. Unfortunately it didn’t do much. The fan during gaming runs suspiciously low. The speed does change but that’s not what I want. I want maximum heat output during gaming for a lag-free experience. Therefore my questions is - how to make the fan run at full speed? I know there are some fan accelerometers out there but it’s hard to get one in Poland and shipping is just hilariously expensive. Is there any way to connect the wires from the fan to some other parts or solder it so that I gets higher voltage ?

Thanks in advance!
