PlayStation 2 Slimline: Why are my discs not spinning?

Ok, for a start, this PS2 is as old as time. 18 years old, bound to fail. The laser is on it's last breath and I need to order a new one. The main thing stumping me is that the discs simply don't spin. Occasionally they do, but now I'm noticing that they arent spinning at all. I have a picture of the disc area + some of the exterior. I know absolutely nothing about the internal of these so please explain it to me like Im five.

PlayStation 2 Slimline: Moldy console with no thermal solution yet.

Hello everyone, I am a complete noob to this.

Just pulled this SCPH-77004 out of our basement and quickly took it apart, I can see and smell that there is mold inside it, it is not that crazy but I would like to get rid of it. I managed to clean up everything but the motherboard. Would it be fine to carefully clean it with 99% isopropyl alcohol and a brush? Also the thermal pad was breaking apart in dry pieces so I took that off, I suppose just plain modern thermal paste would work all right with it if not better after cleaning it up with iso.

Please let me know your thoughts, thank you!

PlayStation 2 Slimline: PS2 Slim SCPH-77004 problems

Basically, my ps2’s video out seems to work fine… but when loading up a game the video seems to stop working, all sound effects still work, just not the video, I think it might be the display that I was using, when a game loaded up it just showed a single color, flickering bar of pixels at the approximate bottom of the screen, when tinkering around to try and fix it with my dad, he pressed one of the lid closed switches with a screwdriver and all sound stopped working, I still expect it’s the display… and then he tried to clean it with isopropyl alcohol, which in turn made the disc drive stop spinning up… from time to time when trying to load discs after all this the ps2 would just freeze and the only way to get it to work again was to unlpug it from the wall and plug it back in. Anyone got any easy solutions for this or do I just have to completely replace most of my ps2’s parts?

PlayStation 2 Slimline: Replaced the disk laser on PS2 SLIM; drive motor now slips

Hi,

I just replaced the laser on my ps2 slim. I was testing it, put in a cd game and pressed down the two sensors for the door. The game starts to spin, then suddenly stops when the drive shaft send the laser down. It gets stuck there now until it stops. When I move the laser manually,it seems fine. I tightened the screw, but not tight enough to strip or break anything. I’m at a loss, not sure how to fix the problem now.

PlayStation 2 Slimline: Is there a way to force power on a ps2 slim without the power button?

I was wondering if I could force power on the ps2 without the use of the power button, I'm trying to do this cause the light on my ps2 turns green for a second and then turns red again, all of the cables seem to be working. Also, I replaced one of the switches to check if the lid was closed with a solder blob and it was working but I think I might have fried something while soldering it. does anyone know if there's a way to force power it on or fix the slightly burnt mother board.

PlayStation 2 Slimline: I can't find the back lid sensor of my ps2

I recently dropped my ps2 and shortly after discovered discs were no longer spinning when I turned the console on. The laser still worked fine moving forwards and backwards when I turned the console on however the motor was still not spinning. After disconnecting the entire disc section of the console, turning the console on and off and reconnecting the disc section of the ps2 discs were still not spinning. I decided this had to be an issue with the sensors however I cannot locate the back lid sensor so I am led to believe the previous owner of the console may have removed it for whatever reason. I have attached a picture of the insides of the ps2 exactly as they were when I first got the system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PlayStation 2 Slimline: Playstation 2 laser worth repairing

The question says it all. I'm curious if the slimline playstation 2 laser models are worth repairing or not. I have a slimline ps2 9000 series model with a dead laser as the unit doesn't read discs anymore.

Looking at repair guides for the 7500 series slimline ps2, the guide says that you have to desolder the old laser and then solder in the new laser.

On amazon, lasers for the ps2 slim are pretty cheap, but I have never used a solder before. Not that I can't learn.

If you have a ps2 that has a laser that breaks on you, does it make more sense to repair the laser assuming that you know the repair process correctly or do you just buy another ps2 unit?
