My PS2 reads CDs fine, but produces a disc read error when trying to read a DVD. All CDs work fine (PS1 games, audio CDs, and some PS2 games released on CD), however all DVDs (DVD videos, and PS2 games released on DVD) produce a disk read error. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks if you can help!

PlayStation 2: Disc is not spinning with a new laser PlayStation 2

I have one old fat Playstation 2 to fix. It doesn´t read disc. I have tested dvd:s, normal Playstation 2 game disc, Playstation 2 blue disc etc.. With some of the games it did not work at all, just saying No data etc, but with one rally game (I think it was blue disc) it started to run it, but after couple of minutes (before the rally was begun, it was in language choosing place) it said something like error, I go back to retirement.

1. First I tried to clean laser with isopropanol (or that thing, how you write it right..) alcohol. Not working, alcohol is better to keep in my drinks.

2. I ordered a new laser from ebay. (Old one was 400C and this is the same type) After 3-4 weeks I finally got it here and tested it. Now the disc was not spinning anymore, it was trying to start spinning but not wanted to spin with the new laser on.

3. I took the old laser off, and old one back, and the disc started to spin, but not reading...

So what I should do next? Why did not the disc spin with the new laser on?

Somebody help me, please! Guys are waiting with the beers in hands when the can play again, if I can´t fix this those are going married or something so this is serious situation...

PlayStation 2: crashes during game.?overheating or over

I've been looking for similar problems but everything seems to be for the PS3. My kids have the "buzz" games and at first I thought that they were all madly pressing the buttons and the machine had overloaded and crashed. Took the game to in-laws and it played fine. The PS2 works ok for about 30minutes then crashes and goes back to home screen, red power light flashes. Turn machine off and on again and it will play for less time. I am thinking this is some sort of overheating or video problem, fans are working, it was thoroughly cleaned not so long ago (problem started ages after that so I can't see a link)Not a disk prob as it happens with other games. Ideas???

Update

it would seem that the fan I have taken out is not so easy to find similar new, I've a few bids on broken PS2's to try and salvage but there are apparently 12 different releases so fans differ.. am looking for 60mmx15mm fan, output is 24.5cfm. 2 Pin connection. anyone know how much variation I can go? Closest I've found is 21cfm which I'm very tempted to get but it comes from the US so I've time to dither if exactness is the key.

PlayStation 2: PS2 Slim making a grinding noise

So my PS2 is making the exact same noise as in this video:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z2gR3gKFr...

and according to this video it's the Worm thing. Now I have not taken my PS2 apart to check that worm thing, but it is making the exact same noise and only does it when a disc is inserted just like in the video so I assume it's the exact same problem.

Do I have to buy the replacement part and have someone replace it for me? Does Sony still do repairs on PS2? Or is there a home fix I can do?

I just got Okami for ps2 so really eager to get my ps2 up and running again.

PlayStation 2: The video port has a loose connection.

I have an original Playstation 2 and it is definitely showing its age. The port that the original AV cables connect to in the back of the console have become worn out with use over time. When I attempt to play my games the screen flickers on the t.v. or I lose video altogether. Audio is still present, regardless. Is there way to order the part to replace this port and solder to the board? Or, does anyone have a nifty hardware hack to wire new leads directly to an AV cable? I am assuming all I would need for the second choice is the pin out diagram for the PS2. I have several AV cables just laying about that I could use.

PlayStation 2: Fat Ps2 Wont Spin Any Disks

Hello I have a fat ps2 and i took it apart awhile back to clean the console because. I disconnected the power ribbon from under the DVD drive then I just cleaned it up with some compressed air and some cotton swabs without any thing on them.. After I did that i couldn't get the power cable back in under the DVD drive so i disconnected the two ribbon cables from under the DVD drive. After that i plugged the power cable under the DVD drive. but than i released that the ribbon cables were hard to get them back in so i gave up for a few months in the months that the ps2 was taken apart i made sure not to drop it or get dust on it ect. Earlier this week i tried it again and i got the dvd drive plugged in the ribbon cables for under the DVD drive. i went to turn it on everything works but it wont read any disks. what i mean by this is that you can put in any disk ps2 games, ps1 games, movies ect. Not one will spin. I can go into the main ps2 screen were i can go to settings or browser it shows that the DVD drive is there but wont be spin any disks that i put into it. It used to read disks before it apart im pretty sure i didn't break anything because i took apart consoles in the past and they still work. I Googled the problem and look around and i cant find anything thats working i tried cleaning the laser and everything but i dont think its the laser but i could be wrong. all the cables are plugged in. Is there any solutions or should go buy and new spindle ?

I know there is problems like this on the ps2 slim but i cant find any working solutions for the fat ps2. Also the Ps2 has a mod chip in it that was installed by a person years ago.
