PlayStation: The laser module won't move on the tracks while discs spin - help?

Working on fixing my PS1 (Model SCH1001), need a little guidance.

The console powers on, shows the white Sony screen, and the black PS logo screen, but then kicks me right back to the home menu, and won't read discs.

The discs spin, as I can hear the motor going, and when I open the tray the disc is spinning, but it just asks me to insert a Playstation CD ROM every time. It reads data off of music CDs, but skips rather aggressively.

I took the PlayStation apart, and removed the laser module briefly to look at what was going on to no avail, however I noticed the laser module itself is very hard to move by hand though I assume it should be able to move up and down the track freely by nature of the fact it needs to read the whole CD.

I booted the Playstation up again with the cover switch held down, and could see the disc spinning quickly, but could not hear the laser moving.

How can I get the laser module to move up and down the track again? I’m nearly certain this is the issue.

I've tried flipping it upside down with no luck.

it looks like normal from the photo but its kind of dark off camera and when I restart the ps1 it changes into PAL into NTSC 4.43 is there anyway to make it brighter or fix this without tearing down the console

PlayStation: PlayStation one controller disconnecting and reconnecting.

I've been having this weird issue where my controllers will disconnect(no input is registered) for a few seconds before reconnecting and allowing input again. It will do this over and over again.

This is an upgrade from when I used a previous controller and no input was registered at all. Both that controller and this current controller are third party.

Ive tested swapping the controller ports and nothing changed. I've also tried checking the fuses and everything seemed to be okay( It was my first time using a multimeter so I absolutely could have done something wrong).

Any ideas on what to do next? Im leaning towards it being a controller issue and not a console one, but I'm unsure.

UPDATE: got my hands on a working original ps1 controller and still no input. only thing that works is the analog light on the controller

PlayStation: Possible causes for disc not being read

Hello fellow repair enthusiasts

I recently bought and fixed a PS1 SCPH-1002 but it does not seem to want to read neither PS1 discs nor CDs.

Can this be caused by me replacing the spindle in the middle that holds the disc in place over the laser?

If so, is there a standard distance between the laser and the disc?

PlayStation: Playstaion 1 AV Multiout not sending signal to TV?

I recently got a PS1 (Model scph-5501) from eBay with the issue of not sending an output signal to the TV.

This console does not send a signal at all. Not even a blue/black screen. The TV does not seem to recognize that anything is plugged in. I don't think it's a cable or TV issue because I tested them with another PlayStation 1 (Model SCPH-7501) and it displays fine.

Looking at the AV port on SCPH-5501, I cannot see the gold pins because they seem to be further recessed on this model than on the other. It was also difficult to plug in the AV cable, it took a noticeable amount of force for it to be properly seated, and even then It still didn't work. Any tips?

I tried to understand what is the problem, and maybe i have the solution too, but firstly I want to be sure of what I'm fixing, before I take another laser that costs money ☺️. The CD doesn't spin, but it seems that this is due to a lack of power coming from the mother board. On the cable that comnects the mother board to the optic group there is a little black dot. Chatgpt says that it is a burn caused by some sort of electricity malfunctions.

They're all relatively the same but sometimes you can sort of make out the logo. The sound also plays. They normally have the jumbled display for 15 or so seconds and then it goes to no display. I'm assuming some chip or caps need replaced but I cannot find a single person talking about this issue on here, so I'm not sure where to start. Could it possibly be my cord?

PlayStation: I need help with some questions and solving some issues.

Hello!

I am planning to fix my Sony Playstation 1 Fat console model SCPH-7501. However, before doing so I have some questions and came across some issues. First I will list my questions and for last I will talk about the issues which I would like to know how to solve. My questions are as follows:

1) Are the KSM-440 AEM and KSM-440 ADM optical eye models compatible with my Sony Playstation 1 fat console model SCPH-7501? If not which models are compatible?

2) Is there a particular best company, which makes replacement Sony Playstation 1 Fat Console model SCPH-7501 optical eyes?

3) Is it possible to find original new Sony Playstation 1 Fat console optical eyes for sale?

4) When do I know if I should either replace the whole optical eye or just the disc spinner?

5) Which product does your company recommend for beginners to use to clean the outside and insides of video-game consoles Isopropyl alcohol or compressed air?

The issues which I came across are:

1) When I turn on my console, sometimes it simply doesn’t display anything on the screen the screen stays black or sometimes the screen freezes on the blue menu screen before the Sony Playstation logo appears. About this issue:

What is causing this issue? How do I solve it?

2) When the console is on and the screen doesn’t freeze, sometimes the “reset button” doesn’t work and sometimes it works.

What is causing this issue? How do I solve it?

3) When I open up the disc tray lid it most of the times just doesn’t close up anymore and the “open button” stays stuck.

What causes this issue? How do I solve it?
