Philips Television: Why is my Philips TV screen is so dark?

Hi,

I've got a Philips 50PUS6162/12 UHD smart led tv and it's brightness has become very low this week. I mean I can see the menu, broadcast etc. but only in a dark room. The brightness is set to maximum in the settings and I reset it to factory settings as suggested but nothing changed. Sometimes the lower third of the screen is works fine for 1-2 minutes and than goes dark. I've measured the voltages on power board and they seems to be correct (as googled for some standard voltages). I've read that it may be T-Con that is causing the problem if led strips works, power seems right and every other thing seems good.

The warranty has just expired so please help :)

Thanks

Update (01/10/2020)

Thanks for your advices. In this case dark means I can see the picture when (at least) there is twilight in the room or I cover the screen from reflection.

It’s brighter on the picture than it really is. (My camera overcorrect brightness).I checked all the connectors, and reseated the wires. I also checked the boards for cold solder soints, bloated capacitors etc, but everything is good. I measured the voltages on power supply and the strip voltages are 37.5-38 V on every pin. The other connector (the upper) voltages must be 12 V and 3.5 V according to the inscription but there is nothing on 3.5 V pin. That is the only fault.

So I still don’t really know what’s wrong with it.

I checked the connectors and reseated all of them but nothing has changed.

All of the LED connector voltages on the power board are 37.8 V.

If the backlight is faulty, may all the LED strips go wrong at once?

Update (04/24/2020)

So after T-con, I replaced the power board too, but it’s still the same. Dark... Voltages are similar to my original power board so I guess it isn’t faulty.

What’s next? Should I disassemble it completely to the led strips, and power them manually?

Philips Television: How can I fix horizontal lines on my Philips screen?

I have a Philips 58PUS8545/12. It is about 2.5 or 3 years old.

Just a month or two after warranty expired, I started getting display freezes of one part of the image. The bottom part. Here’s a video for reference.

This issue came and went. But it was starting to get really annoying with increased frequency of occurrence.

I spoke to an electrician store, he told me that this is a common problem with newer Philips TVs, and that the T-CON board needs replacing. However, since they don’t sell these parts individually here, he advised me to just buy a new tv.

I looked up the t-con board model (CCPD-TC575-009 v1.0) and I found it on eBay. I ordered one and when I tried it (using the new connector cables they provided), it didn’t work. I thought it was hopeless. However, a couple of weeks or so later, I thought I’d try again, and this time I used the old original cables. To my surprise, it worked!

The screen wasn’t frozen any longer, however, there were horizontal lines in the same area where it used to freeze. These lines came briefly and went, but a couple of days later and they completely went away!

Fast forward to a month or two later, the lines came back, but this time they stayed and they never left my display since. Here’s another video for reference.

I checked the left and right cables connected to the board. The problem is definitely coming from the right side, as when only the left cable is connected, the half-image looks perfect (apart from the color being slightly dull), but when only the right cable is connected, the lines are back.

Interesting note is that when I tried connecting the board one time, I did it with the right cable being the other way around than it originally was. I thought this shouldn’t matter, but there was no image whatsoever then. The image returned (with the lines) when I inverted the right cable again.

Can you please help me fix this?

Thanks very much for taking the time to read my post, and sorry for the long explanation.

Update: here are photos of the three main boards on the back

Every time I press “channel up" it jumps to channel 700 (radio) regardless of what channel I start on. If I continue pressing it after that, it scans up as normal, until it reaches the first TV channel, and then it goes back to channel 70/ again. I have a 10 month old daughter, so I suspect she's pressed something on the remote. Everything else works fine.

Philips Television: Help diagnosing faulty 55PUS6704.

Hi. I'm looking for some help from the community to diagnose the fault on my Philips TV please.

It started off with a darkish hazy horizontal band about 1/3 from the bottom of the screen. About a week later the screen went black (screen off, no backlight) after changing inputs. Input signal was working briefly before going off. Sound still worked, but eventually the sound also stopped working. Ambilight still works and changes colour in response to pressing menu buttons, etc. When powering on, the backlight briefly flashes for a split second then goes off.

I was suspecting TCON board but I'm not sure since there are issues with backlight and sound also. Tested voltage and it appears to be getting 12v, although I'm not entire sure where the board fuse is, so not sure if that is at fault.

Before I go and buy a replacement TCON board, I would greatly appreciate advice on additional things to check to diagnose the fault.

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE 1: Adding images of boards

Power board:

TCon board:

Update 2 - 03/09/2023

@oldturkey03 - here's some better pictures of the TCON board (hopefully)

Update 3 - 03/09/2023

@oldturkey03 Right, good news (I think). Turns out the screen and sound are in fact working. Not quite sure how I missed it in my earlier tests (must have been on a bad input), but I managed to load up the YouTube app and with flashlight could confirm picture and sound.

So now I've further dismantled in an attempt to access the backlight LEDs. It was proving a bit tricky/noisy for tonight so have stopped and will continue again tomorrow. I did notice an odd smell when accessing the panels so I'm thinking perhaps one of the LED strips has burned out which would correlate with the dark shadow we saw on the screen before it failed completely. Challenge now is to figure out if it's the strips themselves or the driver / power supply. The backlight flashes on briefly when the TV powers up but I haven't yet confirmed if all of the strips light up, or just some of them.

UPDATE 4 - 04/09/2023

Backlight strips accessed and confirmed 2x LEDs not working across 2 separate strips when testing with multimeter diode tester. So now to decide whether to replace both strips, or just the 2 LEDs.

@oldturkey03 - Any thoughts on how easy it is to replace individual LEDs and where to source replacement LEDs or strips? Anything else to check before replacing?

philips 58pus8105 12: Blank Screen- sound works.

Hi,

In need of some advice/ help and having read so many helpful questions, answers and solutions, I wanted to reach out to see if anyone has any idea.

The screen has suddenly gone blank, I’ve tinkered with a few TV’s over the past year or so, so I’m comfortable taking the TV apart etc.

Backlights are fully working so they’re not the issue.

Unplug 1 of the T-Con board Cables and half the screen displays as normal, plug that back in and repeat for the other T-Con board Cable and the other side of the screen works and displays what you would expect.

Clean T-Con Cables and their respective sockets, plug both back in and no image displayed.

Am I correct in assuming this is a Faulty T-Con board or is it likely the Video board is at fault?

Any help would be really helpful

Regards

Shep

Philips Television: Philips 32PFS6402/12 black screen but audio works!

I own a 4 year old Philips 32PFS6402/12 where I suddenly don't see any image (black screen). I went back to the store and asked if it was still under warranty. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Since I am a little bit handy, I want to try to fix the television.

I searched up on the internet i.e Google and Youtube. I found the service manual (Chassis QM17.4E LA) and some handy Youtube on how to diagnose. So, I diagnosed the following:

-My television STANDBY light goes on.

-Philips Ambilights (lights to the side) goes ON when turning television on.

-I do hear audio coming out of the television.

-I did the "flashlight test", when I shined through the panel, I saw my menu such as "source" or "television channels".

-NO BACKLIGHT. I opened up the back of my television, plugged the power cable in the wall, I did not see any lights shining on the back of my television.

Does anyone know which television part is morelikely faulty and should be replaced to get it working?

Thanks in advance!

Philips Television: Screen went black all of the sudden

Hi guys,

I have the same problem.

Mine TV (QM16.3E LA - 49PUS6551/120 ) gave up yesterday, after almost 4 years. Screen went black all of the sudden, I tried all kind of resets, power drain but still is black.

All other works, sound, ambilight, I can seen even very dark image - UI of Android so I believe it can be only defective backlight, or?

Any chance to verify that LED strips are failed only? I've seen a videos how to change them, but I would like to rule out T-Con board, or power supply. I am going through the service manual but still not sure where I could measure voltage on PSU or T-Con to test if LED strips are getting power. I don't want to do such work before knowing it is the root cause :(

Any idea please?

Philips Television: Vertical colored lines appear randomly

My tv screen shows vertical lines sometimes and even turning off and on again doesn't fix it. It does not depend on the video source, as it also exist on the tv menus.
Philips Television: Philips Logo Flashes, Then Turns Off

Philips 75PFL5603/F7 flashes logo on screen then completely shuts off. Voltages on power board are correct when plugged in. The only sign of life on the main board is the red light in the digital audio optical port. The red light stays on for about 5 seconds when pressing the power button, but eventually turns off. There are no other standby lights that I can see. Research on the matter has brought up a possible main board fault or maybe bad backlight cuasing the lights to go to 100% very quickly and overheating and the TV going into protection mode and turning off. Has anyone seen this problem before? I'm trying to determine what parts I need to get to fix it.

Philips Television: Persistent Backlight Problem with Philips 65PUS6554 12 TV

model : Philips 65PUS6554 / 12

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my Philips 65PUS6554 /12 TV.

When the TV starts up, there is a flash and then a black screen. The sound still works.

It seems to be a backlight problem: I ordered an LED tester to check the LEDs, but all the LEDs are working properly.

After reassembling the TV, it worked for half a day before experiencing the same problem.

I first suspected a malfunction on the power supply board, so I ordered a new one. Once again, after replacing it, the TV worked for half a day before becoming faulty again.

I then ordered a new main board and a new T-con board, but once again the TV worked for half a day before becoming faulty again.

I've attached all the photos for reference, as well as a video of the flash phenomenon.

I also have a multimeter at my disposal, in case it can help.

I have to admit that I'm very desperate and don't know what else to do to solve the problem.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Thanks for all the information.

I have the 42PFL6057H/12

After 10 years, it started to blink 3 times and it does not power on.

What is the diode that I have to replace?

I have many photos.

Thanks in advance,

Francisco

Thanks a lot.

After checking all the diodes, apparently the is failure is in the ZD904 and in the ZD717

Does anyone know what sort of diodes are they?

I send you an attached photo.
