Philips PD9000 37: DvDs/CDs making a strange noise or not spinning when inserted.

Philips portable DVD player ((pd9000/37)), DvDs/CDs ((have tested multiple)) aren’t spinning at all and make a weird noise when inserted, or do spin and make a weird noise.

I suspect it may be the thingy in the middle that fell off, as there is a metal thing poking up (looks like a spring) that wasn’t there before, or maybe an issue with the thing that reads them, but i’m not entirely sure. My sister said that she was watching a DvD and it completely stopped working, but other than that, i have no clue what happened

Edit: I have left a DvD in there for a while (two times over), and after spinning briefly ((whilst making weird noises)), i could hear nothing and eventually the screen stopped saying “Reading” and just said “No disc.” Please let me know if you have any idea how this may have originated/how this could be fixed.

Philips PET729 37: Will the rechargeable battery work in my Philips DCP850 37?

I have a similar (but cooler) device from Philips. It's the DCP850 37. It looks almost exactly like this model, but has a cool docking station to the right of the DVD 'lid' that accepts either the remote control when you want to store it.. or it takes my 60GB iPod Video. Then it can play any video files stored on the ipod or that you might have on an SD Card... it has slots for a few different kinds. sIt also has numerous inputs and outputs and came with a power cord and a 12v cord for the car. .. And it looks very much like it should run on battery power as well, but it does not.. The power button up front even has a "CHG" light that I guess does nothing. But maybe I could install this rechargeable battery in it. Like I said they look very similar. Any thoughts?

This question is actually for a koss dvd player, moded ks4122, it is very similar inside to the philips.

I have replaced the laser pickup and the spindle motor, out of 10 cd's, only one cd will load and play, the dvd will not even spin.

The pickup is mounted on two rails that are screwed the metal chassis, the screws go thu tension springs before they screw into the metal, is the height of the laser pickup critical, ie how loose or tight the screws are, to get the dvd to play.

Any help would be appreciated.

Update, i changed the sled motor, no change.

I used a slyvania dvd as a reference and readjusted the spindle height and the laser table height, this made the player now play approx. 4 discs, but the dvd will not load at all still. I also used a bubble level and adjusted the laser table screws to get level.

Mechanical spindle height and laser table height should be good, maybe i got a bad new laser pickup or i have a electrical problem with the mother board.

I posted pictures of the circuit board and the mech.

If any has a service manual for this unit or a unit similar, i would pay for it, i do want to get this unit working properly again.

Yes and i did remove the solder blob on the laser pcb.

Any help would be appreciated.

Philips DVD Player: Laser mechanism continues to push back when opening tray

Hi,

I have a Philips DVD player DVP2850. Lately when opening the tray with a disc inserted, a sound of gears skipping is heard after which the tray successfully opens. I removed the cover and noticed that when pressing the open button with a disc on the tray, the laser mechanism goes back towards the edge of the DVD disc and keeps trying to go back. This is causing the gear skipping sound. After some seconds the tray ejects successfully. The tray opens/closes normally when without a disc. Any help, please?

If not, is it possible to disable to the tray completely, since the USB port works fine. It’d be nice if it went straight to reading the USB port instead of looking for a disc, and then I’d be able to leave it plugged in as well.

Philips DVD Player: Movies played from DVD are pausing during watch

Hello,

My Philips dvd player DVP2850 started to pause movies during the play. It freezes for several seconds (and up to 1 min) several times during a movie. It is related to both licensed DVDs and those from Amazon/Ebay. It also takes longer now to load the DVD. It has never been like this during the first 3 years of use, but more lately it started to be annoying. Can i repair it? Or throw away? I use it for 4 years already.
