Optical Drive: DVD Drive spins disk, tries to read, makes wierd noise, then stops

Hi there, I have this Panasonic SW-9576-C

its a special drive, cuz iz accpets DVD RAM Catridges: https://images.crutchfieldonline.com/Ima...

I only need it for DVD RAM Use

Sadly the drive doesn't work, the problem is the same as this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOnS0c6Q...

at first the drive could only read DVDs, but not DVD-RAM or CDs (but only in Windows 98SE computer), not if I used this device: https://www.conrad.com/en/p/renkforce-ha...

now it doesn't even read DVDs

Not sure what to do, I can't replace the drive, they are not cheap to get and they can come defective (cuz people never test them with DVD RAM), just like this one did

I did dissasemble it according to this instructions: http://akakabu.way-nifty.com/blog/2011/0...

but didn't know how hard would this be to asemble back, cuz the drive can never close properly anymore

So if anyone has any idea how to fix this (maybe best way to read a disk without needing to close the drive first)

Thanks

Asus BW-16D1X-U: Blu-ray disk is really stuck in external USB disk burner

Hello again iFixit community. I've come to you all once again in a time of need. I am also posting on behalf of a friend of mine, and I don't have the device immediately in front of me, but any advice that can be given would be greatly appreciated.

The Problem

I have a disk that is "really stuck", and potentially physically jammed inside the drive. Attempting to eject the disk from the computer was unsuccessful in removing the disk, and is only resulting in a grinding sound. (I don't have audio yet, but will update once I have my hands on the drive.)

Troubleshooting Steps Attempted so Far

I don't have the drive with me, and as a result I am unable to conduct the normal troubleshooting steps myself, but we have attempted ejecting the disk from the computer, and using the Emergency Eject Pin-hole with minimal success.

Any help is always greatly appreciated.

hey team! Thanks for stopping by.

I have a Laser engraver build on the cheap end, and one of the components is malfunctioning. there are two laser guides from optical drives used for the X and Y-axis. on one of them, the plastic guide that moves along the head actuator is worn down, thus it needs replacing. if you could get me the name of the component so that I may purchase it, I would much appreciate it.

Optical Drive: Is this drive look nonstandard?

Individual drive:

Compared to a normal IDE laptop optical drive:

Since my primary external drive is one of those with a soldered USB port (and is a throwaway when it fails), I found two laptop optical drives that I haven’t used in years - one of which is a HP Lightscribe drive (I know the LS functions aren’t really practical today, but it will work as a standard burner) and a drive I pulled from an T43 that was a parts machine. The IBM drive is the one I don’t know if this is standard or one of the many nonstandard connectors IBM has created. I think it’s nonstandard because it doesn’t look right (and it’s an IBM drive), but I have also read this is a standard IDE drive (UJ-822B) so it may be a hotswap friendly connector based on the IDE specification - I’m not entirely sure.

Is this drive look like a standard IDE drive I can get an enclosure for (albeit hard to find) or is it look like it’s a proprietary IBM part?

Optical Drive: What external DVD drive is good for losses CD ripping?

With my current drive (Memorex MRX-650LE V7) I have had issues with 2 recent rips where there is a timing issue at 00:10:00 or 00:10:00-00:12:00. I have had this issue with Traces and the 1991 Foreigner 4 release (original tape remaster) with Foreigner 4 having the issue at 00:10:00-00:12:00 and Traces at 00:10:00. Some of my other rips may have this issue, but I am only covering the recent ones as I have noticed this persist since Traces. I use this drive in conjunction with Exact Audio Copy.

The track on Foreigner 4 that was affected (Night Life) doesn’t have an issue I can detect as this would be very visible since I rip in WAV 16 44,100Hz quality so I believe the drive is wearing out or it’s fine, but no longer reliable for consistent CD ripping.

Is there any way I can bring this drive back into calibration or is it sound like my days of using it for CD ripping are over but as a general use drive, I’m okay? I have tried detecting the features of the drive (which also reports if it is accurate after, which it is) in some hope this fixes the problem.

Optical Drive: Slimline Drive Slimtype BD E DS4E1S: CD holder part fell off

Hi.

Today i wanted to watch a DVD movie, opened the tray on my Laptop, and saw this wonderful view:

I don’t know how it happened but it must have been loose somehow, and by opening the tray it finally got off. I already had problems with this drive, to which i never knew the reason. Now i know, i guess.

Anyway, is there a way to get this thing, whatever its called, back in its place?

I thought glue should do the trick, but then i figured glue would not stand against high RPM’s let alone the heat bulding up inside my laptop, disintegrating the glue.

Are there any other things i can try?

Anyway thank you in advance for any answers.

Optical Drive: Image DVD (ISO) isn't recognised

Hi,

for Bootcamp I did burn the ISO on a DVD (Using Nero). In the past the iMac (27" EMC 2390) didn't had a problem to recognize it (although it did cost sometimes several attempts before it actually did start to run). Now I get the pop-up the DVD is empty. A movie DVD works perfect as well as a CD. Did burn the ISO again with the same result... Could this be caused by a dirty laser?

Optical Drive: My CD drive ignores about 5% of CDs inserted

I am ripping audio CD's to the cloud using Windows 10 on a brand new laptop with a plug-in (separate) CD reader/writer. 95 out of 100 work fine with Windows Media Player, but some of the CDs spin for a few seconds and then just stop. Windows acts as if no CD is even in the drive. The CDs themselves are clean and mostly scratch free. For example, they will play in a boom box. My guess is that Windows lacks some of the codex's needed to decrypt the CD, but I don't see anywhere to add more of them to the Operating system. Any other guesses out there?
