Olympus Stylus 725 SW: Camera on, screen blank, lens cover stays open-What to do?

Used the camera at the beach yesterday, and initially worked fine. Lens cover quite retracting, and I can't find anything stuck in it. The camera will turn on with a blank screen for 2-3 seconds, then turn off. I can review the pictures on the card, but nothing else. This is messing with my vacation big time, and any suggestions will be welcomed. I replaced the battery with a newly charged one, but didn't make any difference. I don't have any tools with me, but if needed,there is a Lowe's not too far away & I'm sure I should be able to find what I need. THANKS!!

Hello, I have a 770sw which I figured might be close enough to the 725, the camera lens would open but taking photos is useless as what the camera sees is black. other options seem to be working such as seeing camera roll.
