Nokia G42 5G: System stuck at boot logo

Hello, my G42 is stuck at boot logo NOKIA.

I've gone in to recovery but there is no reset option to delete data and cache.

I even tried fastboot erase cache and data but that is locked.

Any ideas? I'm shocked that a ifixit compatible phone has no basic option for factory reset. Did Nokia/HMD mess up? :o

Nokia G42 5G: Camera lens cover replacement

I recently made a time lapse of a sandstorm and the top and middle lens covers have been cracked. Does anyone know where I can get replacements? Ifixit don't stock them and don't know if they ever will.

Thanks in advance for any help. I'm currently in Morocco but will be in Spain and Portugal in the next month or so.

Nokia G42 5G: Security update 2025/01 continues to fail because previous update fail

My G42 5G works ok but can't install the 2025/01 security update. It says"Download and installation" works, but when it comes to the "Optimizing apps" phase it says "update failed"

Connecting via ADB and searching through logcat shows that the update failed because "previous update failed". (I presume that refers to a previous attempt to install 2025/01, as 2024/12 showed no issues at the time)

I already tried:

clearing the Play Store cache
factory reset
udating in Safe Boot mode

Ideally I would like to roll back the OS to Android 14 before the 2025-01 update attempt, but I see no such option in the recovery menu.

Within the family we have two more G42 G5's and they installed 2025/01 and even 2025/02 without problems.

Hi I am having issue with my phone charger it keeps vibrating non stop when charging it keeps say unable to charge your phone your connection is too slow or you may have a incorrect phone charger please change phone charger that came with this device I bought this phone at Walmart and it came with the correct charger so I don't know if it a company error or a chip issue dose any known how to fix this.

Nokia G42 5G: Hangs at Nokia logo, will not start

After restarting to do a system update, the phone has got stuck in a boot loop. I'm wondering if there's any possible way to resolve it without forcing a factory reset/data wipe.

Essentially, every time it restarts or powers on, it makes it to the Nokia logo screen and then hangs indefinitely. I can use the power + volume down button to enter the fastboot screen, but the options given are not helpful - all I can choose from is:
Start
Recovery Mode
Power Off
Restart bootloader

All of these options result in the logo hang, even the recovery mode option. I see another user had a similar problem but says the phone eventually recovered itself on its own. I'm not really eager to wait around to see if mine will do the same - is there any hope of a quick fix or am I just going to have to factory reset?

I bought my parents a G42 each at the same time. One of them broke the screen, which I replaced. That same phone is now on the same network as the other and we've noticed that it gets a much worse mobile connection than the other phone (that never had any bits replaced).

For example, the repaired phone only gets Edge but the "untouched" one gets 5G in the same location.

The repaired phone has only recently been changed into the same network as the "untouched" one, so it might well have had a signal issue for a while, possibly ever since I repaired it.

Can anyone advise what the best resolution is? For example, I wonder if the antenna is on the back panel, and perhaps the contacts between this and the main board need cleaning?

After getting wet in the rain, it reads the SIM card but there is no connection.

The SIM works in other phones but with this phone it only asks me for the PIN but I have no connections neither 2g nor 3g nor 4g.

I tried to disassemble and reassemble but without success.

Everything else works.

Sometimes I need to restart window for fingerprint authorisation for 3-5+ times to make it work, at first attempts it doesn't see any fingers and doing nothing, even no message that fingerprint is incorrect, and only after 3-5 window restarts it confirms fingerprint and works

When I press the side button (fingerprint), it freezes and restarts the system several times or performs quick actions, such as opening the camera or, worse, calling for help without any real need.

I think the button is broken.

The only new screens with frame that I could source do not have the side button assembly so this has been purchased separately. Does anyone have a link to a guide for instalment?

I previously installed a new screen without frame but as the frame was also broken the new screen cracked due to the strain.

Hi, I broke off a button of the volume flexcable after replacing the outer case while repairing my Nokia.

New parts are hard to get by and I was wondering if people know you can either replace/solder a button or do I need to buy a new flexcable?

Also, I tend to have trouble closing the case properly without getting the buttons nice and snug. They some to snag on the case somehow.. I'm probably doing something wrong while closing. Every advice is welcome! :D
