Nintendo GameCube: Disc drive won't turn on after optical drive recapping

Hello! I just recapped the optical drive on my Nintendo GameCube, but now the disc drive won't power up. The rest of the console works perfectly. I think I damaged a pad on the board when I took one of the old capacitors off, but I think I soldered the new one on in a way that would still allow a current to pass through. I also tinkered with the cover sensor switch, which I had previously broken during a different repair after which I rigged it to work with only half of the switch by sticking a little bit of wire onto the contacts, so I'm hoping that that's the problem and not my... soldering skills. I took the remaining brass contact out after it lost its springy-ness and bent it back, so it's possible that I bent one of the prongs too far in one direction. I know that I put all of the new caps on in the right polarity, so I doubt it's that. It's not too much of a rush to fix it because I have a Wii that's capable of playing GameCube games, but I'd still like to fix it. Any ideas, ideally ones that don't involve purchasing a 30-40$ optical drive?

Nintendo GameCube: Why does my GameCube not activate the rumble feature in my controller?

I haven't been able to feel the rumble in my controllers when playing my GameCube for years now. I know it's not the controllers because using them on the switch for smash bros always activates their rumble. Oddly enough, sometimes using the less used ports on the GameCube might activate the controllers rumble, but it's a rare occurrence. It doesn't help that sometimes plugging in the controller doesn't get registered by the system at all.

Nintendo GameCube: Multiple Lasers not Turning On

So I'm working on repairing a GameCube right now and the laser wasn't turning on. So, the obvious solution was to take one of the lasers I knew were good from previous tests and replace it. Somehow, two previously good lasers aren't turning on. It's not just turning on but not spinning the disc, it's not just not moving the laser, the lens seems to twitch which surely means it's getting some level of power, but no light comes on regardless of how I tweak the pot.

Has anyone else had this issue, and if you did how did you solve it? My guess is that it's something wrong with the disc drive's board but I'm trying to see if there's any solution besides just buying a new drive.

A few days ago, I was playing thps 4 and my gamecube was working like normal. I went to turn it on earlier today and the only noise coming from the gamecube was the fan, the disc drive not spinning, but the power led was on. I'm using a DOL-001 and the carby hdmi adapter, but I doubt that changes much.

Nintendo GameCube: Why does my game cut off?

Certain times I can play for a while fine. Other times I play for a bit, and the game will cut out. Now it's pretty much cutting out after reading and loading the disc. The signal cuts out and the power light indicator turns off, but the fan continues to run, and the disc continues to spin. I have vacuumed the side vents with a brush attachments, which worked for a short period.

Nintendo GameCube: Only fan is working and light turns on for .5 seconds then turns off

So here is the thing, so I got an old Gamecube from one of my friends when she had when she was a kid. I had to buy a composite cable when I realized she didn´t give me one. Then when I powered it on, nothing happened. The LED light to indicate that the system was on, turned on for half a second then turned off. The disc wasn´t spinning but the fan was working. I looked all over the internet and did not find anything of this specific problem. So if you are a hardware geek and/or a big fan of the Gamecube, please kindly find a solution. It will really make my day as I have a lot of gameboy games on standby for play on the big screen. Thank You!

Nintendo GameCube: think I may have nixed the daughter board!

Okay, I was changing the power LED on my GameCube - it’d burnt out and was annoying me. Anyhow, being a colossal moron, I picked up my 5v LED pack instead of my 1.5v pack and installed a 5v without thinking.

The LED flashed on and died in less than a second (understandable) but, having removed and replaced the 5v, the GC won’t power on.

I powered up using the DOL-002(UKV) power supply originally supplied with the GC so I know it works (or was) and is the right PSU for my area. So far, my thoughts are that I’ve either nixed the daughter board, the main board or the power switch board - any suggestions or help appreciated!

Nintendo GameCube: Disk is Not Spinning and there is No Picture Displayed

Hello,

Recently, my GameCube isn’t reading any disk as it is not spinning. I don’t hear any spinning when starting up, but everything else seems to be fine inside (the orange light, the fan, etc.). Oddly enough, there is also no video or sound when the GameCube is powered on. I don’t see any signs of an error screen or the GameCube menu when you don’t have a disk inserted. I took it to a repair shop only for them to tell me “There is nothing wrong with the circuit going to it or the spinner itself we cannot discern an issue.“

I’m not too sure what’s going on? Could it be the laser? I haven’t disassembled the console myself.

Nintendo GameCube: Why does my GameCube freeze on the homepage?

I’ve had my GameCube for a long time. Used it in the past and it worked perfectly fine. Just recently tried to play it again after half a year of not using it and it will freeze in the preview of every game and there is a sustained beep. It will also freeze if I press a button on the controller with the same continuous beep. If there is no game and no memory card or controller plugged in. It will display the main menu and then once I plug in a controller and press a button it’ll freeze again. I had taken it apart and cleaned all the dust out incase it was over heating with no difference. Any information on what the issue could be is much appreciated. Thank you
