Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom): Famicom won't turn on

Hi folks, my son bought 2 famicom systems online and neither work. He's really gotten into collecting different systems and he's quite disappointed that he can't figure either of these 2 out. I'm willing to ship and pay for the repair. He just needs 1 to work, but we can ship both systems in case parts need to be swapped. Anybody interested or can someone point us in the right direction?

Thank you

Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom): Black Fuzzy Screen but can hear microphone

Hello!

I recently picked up a Nintendo Famcicom for pretty cheap off ebay, to power it i have picked up this power adapter from console 5 https://console5.com/store/9v-1300ma-ul-...

I have the TV set to channel 95/96 which is the Japanese channel 1/2.

Hitting the power switch causes a black screen with fuzzy moving blue and green anomalies. If a cartridge is inserted into the console I can hear audio coming from the controller II microphone. No game audio. Ive cleaned the cartridge and connector incredibly thouroughly. There’s clearly some sort of processing going on in the console because i can hear the microphone through the TV when a cartridge is inserted.

I swapped out the 7805 voltage regulator, but no change, i have some spare capacitors to replace as well but i don’t want to start throwing parts at this thing without a cause.

Any help is appreciated

EDIT 2/11/24

Voltage regulator and all capacitors replaced, board, cartridges, and cart slot have been cleaned and then cleaned again for good measure. Same result with no change. Ive ordered a known working cartridge because I only have one and am unsure if it works

Post updated to include board photos after voltage regulator, cap replacement and cleaning. Not sure what the quality of these photos will be over internet compression. However the Board revision is HVC-CPU-07

Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom): Blown Fuse / Smoke on Famicom?

Hi All,

Excuse my naivety. I purchased an original Japanese Famicom in Super Potato, Tokyo recently for use in the UK.

At the counter I requested them to provide power supplies - I was provided an RF Switch and Japanese AC Adaptor (100V AC 50/60hz with 10V DC 850mA)

Upon returning, I purchased this RF Cable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RF-Cable-Super...?

So I hooked up the RF Cable (didn't use the switch), and combined a Travel Adaptor + The AC Adaptor I was supplied with the Famicom and immediately after switching on, I noticed white smoke coming from the Famicom and a pop/bang noise after 5 seconds.

After realising I should be using a step-down convertor or a plug with the current AC Voltage I purchased this and tried using it tonight:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151415102678?_...

Unfortunately, the Famicom now when turned on doesn't seem to emit any noises or sounds, and the temperature remains the same so I can only assume it's broken - perhaps I've blown a fuse?

What's the best thing to do here?

Option 1) The Famicom is dead, I should just give up

Option 2) Is anyone here based in London that could perhaps take a look at it? I'd be happy to pay for your time & parts

Option 3) Is it possible I've blown a fuse or something that I could fix myself in a straightforward way?

Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom): My Famicom won't power on or show any video signal!

Hello and thank you to anybody looking at this post.

I recently bought a famicom off ebay in box with four other games, the original box was tattered but the console was in decent shape. I tried to use the japanese RF adapter with my TV but soon found that it does not work on US televisions. So I bought a US RF adapter and the console still shows no video… Any troubleshooting tips? I don’t have any idea what is at fault here and I’m not familiar with the famicom either…

Thanks!

Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom): Famicom twin left on too long. Power barely works.

I have one of the Sharp Famicom Twin systems. Worked great. My 2 yo had a knack for just flipping random switches on and off. Went in the basement and happened to notice the power switched on, and a very faint power light. Don't know how long it was on.. could have been a couple weeks, or even a few months. Anyway, all i can get it to do is power on with a very faint power light, but the system doesn't display anything on the tv. If i were to open this up, I wouldn't know what i'd be looking for, wouldn't know if the thing i was looking for looked bad or good, and wouldn't know what part to replace it with. Any helpful hints to get me started? (Outside of the obvious hint of keeping my valued devices out of the little one's reach :))

Thanks
