Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Tray Staying Down

Have this old Nintendo NES-001 console. The problem appears to be with the cartridge tray. When pressing down, it locks into place, but when pressing down again to release the tray back up, it gets stuck a lot. Never came across this type of issue, usually the issue is the tray wont stay down and that is almost always because the tray is not aligned properly flat onto the NES board. I made sure it is aligned properly, still same issue. I even took the tray out and by itself, the same issue happens with it getting stuck down. I can see the pin inside the white plastic stays in place when pressing down and wont move when pressing down again. Eventually the pin moves and the tray comes up like it is suppose too. Does the tray need to be replaced? I added a video to show what I am referring too...

Nintendo Entertainment System: Scrambled Graphics on every Game

Hey all, not sure if this is the right place to post. I have a NES TV (model 19sv111) and it suddenly showed scrambled graphics from the NES console one day. Every game does this. The games do play and sound fine.

I tried a new cartridge connector and the games will now boot without pressing down but still scrambled graphics. A visual inspection shows the caps look alright but I don't have a way to test them. Thinking about getting a cap kit for it.

The motherboard for this TV looks almost identical to a NES-001 with differences in the video output area. Is there a chip that may have crapped out? How could I check?

Nintendo Entertainment System: NES powers on, but nothing loads (has been cleaned, etc).

Hello, I have a used NES I picked up fairly recently that doesn't load any game (have tried multiple). To attempt to troubleshoot myself I have done the following things.

I have tested it with the RF cable (both channels) and composite video.

I took the entire console apart and gave it a solid cleaning.

I noticed the lock-out chip had been disabled.

I removed the 72-pin connector and boiled it.

I bent the pins on the connector to ensure it would make contact with the game.

While the 72-pin was off, I did additional cleaning on the part of the board the connector attaches to.

I also noticed that portions of the board that the 72-pin goes over had additional solder on it (clean, only on the single silver strip), I'm assuming to fix corrosion or something?

I used a multimeter on the part with solder to ensure connectivity to board.

Still after all the cleaning and boiling (and putting back together) it still doesn't load any game. I have an additional working NES, so I know the games do work for comparison. Everything looks good, but just have a solid white screen. Am I missing something?

Nintendo Entertainment System: Is it Safe to use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean cartridges?

I want to clean the contact points on my old NES Carts. I thought to do this with a little bit of Isopropyl Alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol) and a Q-Tip, or perhaps a micro-fiber cloth.

Nintendo Entertainment System: Blue screen after powering up NES

I recently found a dusty old NES, controller and some games (score!). The power light was blinking when i hooked it up, so i took it apart and cleaned it (and also disabled the 10NES chip). Put it back together, cleaned the game cartridges and hooked it all up. Now the power light is solid red, but the TV screen is a solid blue/purple color. I connected the NES to my TV via an AV Cable RF Box. Do I need a different kind of connector, or is it something else wrong with a component in the system itself? thanks in advance!

Hi everyone, great little website and I’m hoping you can help me, bought a NES from eBay and turned it on (unofficial power lead) and it was flashing red. So I took the NES apart to replace the 72 pin connector, however since I did this the NES doesn’t power up. Not sure if I have shorted something. The power supply does work on my snes but I have bought an official one to try once it arrives. Any ideas what I should do next?

Update (02/13/2023)

Just an update, I managed to fix the power issue with the NES. The lead felt flimsy in the jack so I inspected the jack itself and the large metal spring plate wasn’t in place so I gently bent it back up again and it worked!

Thanks for your help

Nintendo Entertainment System: System only runs Mario/Duck Hunt. Out of ideas, need help!

Okay, so I'm kinda new to fixing NESs. So I've been following a lot of how-to's online and trying a lot of easy fixes, but so far nothing has worked. As of right now, I have boiled the 72 Pin Connector 3 times, I have cleaned it with alcohol twice, I have cleaned the contact points on the NES every time I have boiled the 72 Pin connector, and I have disabled the lock-out chip.

I no longer get the Red Blinking Light, and I can get the NES to run both of my copies of Mario/Duck Hunt about 70% of the time, but I can't get any other games to work at all. And before you ask, yes I have cleaned the games, multiple times even. This is a second NES that I got basically for free that I am trying to fix and sell/gift. All of my games work on my personal NES.

I'm kind of just out of ideas at this point, and I'd prefer not to buy a new 72-Pin collector if I don't have to, but if there's nothing else I can try, then I'm open to doing that
