Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3ds - Cannot display the software on the SD Card

Like the title says my 3ds started giving me this error after i removed the sd card i have always used on it since 2011

I've used the card on a computer and its working fine, even formatted it to fat32 to make sure it wasnt a software issue but still gives me this error, tried a new sd card but same result

I've opened the console up and cleaned the sd card slot pins with isopropyl alcohol and tried to make sure the pins were okay but the issue still persists

Also used some compressed air to maybe remove dirt from inside the card reader I've already ordered a sd card reader for the console but im wondering what other options i have, any ideas?

Nintendo 3DS: Help Identifying How To Fix Charging Port that Fell Off

Hi.

I've been trying to repair my old 3DS, and for the most part this has gone smoothly with minimal issues. The only problem I'm facing immediately is that I'll need to do some soldering to re-affix the charging port. I have zero experience with this and need a hand identifying what steps I should take with my console.

I've tried to get some up-close photos of it, and I can see a little bit of green/yellow missing from the outer soldered point. They appear black up close, and with some further inspection also seemed to have a residue of something, very thin and eggshell-like.

I'm looking at all sorts of guides to try and figure out what to do, but I've yet to come across any that have damage even remotely similar to that on mine. The port itself doesn't look damaged, thankfully, I'm just struggling to tell where to start on fixing it.

Nintendo 3DS: 3DS Charges But Does Not Turn On (No Blue Light)

I have this original 3DS that had some corrosion in it near the power management section.

I cleaned it up using a toothbrush and 99% IPA.

Even after the clean, it produced the same results of claiming to be charging but never actually turning on or showing the blue LED.

I checked for shorts, couldn't find any. I also check F1 and F2 fuses which both showed to be fine.

I know there was a lot of corrosion but I just don't know what the problem could be. If you have any advice, please let me know

Nintendo 3DS: How can I reattach a ZIF connector latch if it broke off?

So, I broke 3 of the clasps off. Joycon, two of the bottom screen ones. How can I reattach them? I’ve looked at tutorials but the thing about 3DS ZIF connectors is that THEY ARE NOT BUILT THE SAME (see image)

How do I reattach a ZIF latch with this odd port? Do I have to take the ports off and solder new ones on? I want to get my 3DS up and running again.

Here’s the images of the ‘damage’

Nintendo 3DS: What could be the issue at hand with my battery/device?

2011 - 2023 i had the original battery - it expanded due to overcharging/ leaving the device running and on charge over-night due to playing a game that you kinda can't pause/save during (hyrule warriors: legends)

i replace the battery by searching the model number on amazon and buying a new one.

it's early 2026, and i have used this battery for 3yrs at most - i dont know why it's expanding already? i noticed the back plate was bulging a tiny bit, and opened her up to take it out asap to avoid any issues.

could there be another hardware issue leading to this happening again? should i just try and find a refurbisher? i dont really want to leave my device in someone elses hands if i can avoid it, she's important to me.

any advice is appreciated, thank you in advance !!!

Nintendo 3DS: What would need to be replaced in the described scenario?

My 2011 3DS has been through a lot, and I want to give her some TLC with some new parts and future proofing.

I over-charged her across a few months and needed to replace the battery because of it expanding. However, now she seems a bit slower/fried, game cards not loading in sometimes, boot-up taking several seconds etc.

I've recently seen videos with replacing the charger port with usb-c, replacing the bottom screen for a glass one etc.

I basically want to know what things i should look into replacing and upgrading to help her run more smoothly and last longer!

I'm happy to answer further questions and resources for further reading on 3DS modding is appreciated as I'm also unsure of what I should be searching for.

Thanks for your time!!
~tea

Nintendo 3DS: 3DS overheating plus screen won't turn on after repair

Hi. Ok let me start from the beginning. I've had an Old 3DS since 2018 but it was passed down to me by my cousin who bought it in 2011, I had to change the battery for the first time in 2023 and after that I modded it somewhat in december 2024. During the end of 2025's first semester it started to stop charging until it just stopped working in general, I took it to a repair guy who tried to change the charging port on my 3DS, we tried to use a different charger but nothing was working (batter shows no signs of inflation/getting bigger). Then he opened it up and discovered that apparently there was something wrong with the motherboard that was stopping the electricity from getting to the battery but if I take the battery out and charge it via an adapter it works. I came back home now (live in Brazil but was living for a few months on Italy) and tried to power it up, unfortunatly the blue LED turns on but both screens stay pitch black and won't even turn on. Also for some bs reason it's overheating on the left upper screen hinge when I power it on so I'm scared of leaving it on for a long time to see what happens. Can anyone please help me, this was my first ever eletronic/videogame and it matters a lot to me. Thanks

Nintendo 3DS: Turns on then off, no screen and no popping sound

Hi,

I have a 3DS XL that I cleaned because it was water damaged (nothing burnt on the motherboard so should be fine). It turned on before cleaning, but after reassembly, it turns on and off with the blue led turning on and off too.

I've seen that some people could hear a popping sound, which isn't my case.

I found one of my ribbon cables, with some sort of a black coating around, to have a little scratch and I was wondering if it was the problem.

Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS won't turn on.

Hey guys!

My name is Neto and I've been having a problem with my Nintendo 3DS for a few months now.

Some time ago I ran out of 3DS chargers, so I put off buying another one, but after a month I finally bought one. When I plugged it into my 3DS to charge, I left it charging for a long time, and then when I turned it on, it wouldn't turn on at all. The orange charging LED appears, but when I press the power button, it doesn't turn on. After a while I tried again, but now another situation has occurred. The console would turn on, the orange LED would light up, and after a while the LED would disappear. I had to unplug the charger and plug it back in to turn it on, but it always disappeared. Note: I tried with another battery from a friend of mine that was working normally, but without success.

I would appreciate any help.

Nintendo 3DS: Upper screen replaced, but turns off when angled

Hiya!

i managed to follow the guide completely, succesfully replace the screen and happy days it turns on and plays games perfectly, the 3D also does everything it needs.

So when I have the DS in playing position (top screen locked in) its perfectly fine for hours of gameplay, if I overextend the screen or put it in the 90degree angle it turns black. when I pop it back in playing position its on again. Is this a normal reaction or have I missed something on the assembly? You would think it would happen 1 way as you overextend or close pulls the cables in different ways?

Is it worth opening up again and what should I look for if it is an issue?

Nintendo 3DS: 3DS XL does not boot with SD card. (Has CFW)

Just got a New 3DS LL today and noticed it already had Luma installed, but no SD card. 3DS boots up fine and plays games fine. Upon inserting an SD card, the system will black screen, with the blue power light remaining on. I’ve tried multiple sd cards, loading Luma on to sd cards, cleaning the sd cards and the sd card slot. Nothing works. Is there something I’m missing? Is the sd card slot cooked and beading to be replaced? I did open it up and check out the slot and it seemed fine, tho there was a screw missing meaning someone has been in there before.

Nintendo 3DS: Smash Bros for 3DS giving me black screen on launch (SD + Cart)

So I just got my hands on a 3DS recently, installed CFW and started loading games onto my SD card. All games BESIDES Smash Bros for 3DS launch. Smash would show up as an icon, seem to launch after pressing A, but then the screen goes black and the console makes a quiet popping noise. Now I know Smash can take time to load, but I let the console sit for 30+ minutes, came back and still saw the black screen. All I could do was power off the console.

Then I thought maybe getting a physical copy of Smash Bros would do the trick. I uninstalled the Smash Bros game from my SD card and ordered a physical copy. Just got it in the mail today and put that in the cart slot to try and launch the game, but it did the same thing that booting the game from SD card did. I even tried powering off the 3DS, removing the SD card and game cart, powered it back on and reinserted the game cart and launched the game again, but still got that black screen.

No idea what to do here.

Nintendo 3DS: My 3ds has been not turning on

My 3ds has been not turning on for like 4 months, I tried taking out the sd card 100 times and I gave up and left it alone. Today, I finally fixed it, BY TAKING OUT THE SD CARD. Lol. Then later i wanted to set up wiimmfi on it, everything was going fine until I pressed done on my internet settings, then it froze. So now every time I boot it up and try to go back to settings it freezes 3: (btw this things literally never messed up like this its in almost perfect condition) if anyone can help I WILL BE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL because it was originally my sister's so if I can't fix it I'm screwed D:

Nintendo 3DS: Nintendo 3DS top screen has issue for 3D visualization

I have a Nintendo 3DS game console (old version), but I found the 3D visualization function is problematic. The 3D slider works good. But when I turn on, it doesn't show the 3D effects.

Specifically, when I use each single eye to look the top parallax screen, only my right eye could see clear image, but my left eye see very dark image which is hard to figure out.

So what do you think the issue is that happened for the 3DS parallax screen?

Nintendo 3DS: Dropped 3ds now it never loads my home menu! No CFW.

Really weird problem I have.

I dropped my new Nintendo 3ds XL (purple galaxy one) one day and when I went to turn it on, it stayed on the black/blue screen that appears when the console it loading. At first, it appeared to be a soft brick which was supposed to be an easy fix: everywhere I went said to put a combo of buttons in and press reset, which i did, but nothing seems to be fixing it??

If I hold down the power button, it’ll send me to the power off screen and the bottom touch screen still works. When I press the home menu, it gets stuck loading the home menu forever. I really have no idea what I managed to do to this thing. I even bought a screwdriver to open it up and see if it was because of the WiFi chip, then found out it’s on the TOP portion of my 3ds and got too scared to take it apart again lol. I have it backed up on my computer, so I won’t lose anything, I’m just like. Completely out of ideas. I genuinely have no idea what’s wrong. My only guess is I managed to corrupt the home menu???? Which is like…how??

Any advice is appreciated, as I have tried all of these things and nothing is fixing it:

-booted into safe mode, reset and nothing happened.

-reset the home menu with a button combo, nothing happened

-waited on the soft brick (nothing lol)

-opened it to see if it was bc the WiFi chip was loose, (found out it was on the top screen, THEN found out the newer model has the WiFi chip on a motherboard so idk how that could’ve gotten loose), I am willing to try it again if someone can show me a guide for the specific 3ds I have (I’m getting a little desperate LMAO)

The only thing I haven’t done is brought it in somewhere, I am trying to find a solution without spending money but I am afraid it’s coming to that. Again, any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading this long winded post, I miss my tomodachi life game. It’s just like, it literally works I watch it work then it just gets stuck infinitely loading nothing.

I accidentally dropped my 3ds on the floor after moving my arm and a part detached from the motherboard called ctr-ir-01. Does anyone know how to put it back and what it does.

Do I even need this part and do I solder it or something.
