Nikon Coolpix L18: Lens stays open lens error

My lens no longer retracts and I get a message on the screen that says "lens error".

Lens on Nikon Coolpix L18 will not extract or retract. I hear the motor running but no movement of lens. Lens cover does work when gears are manipulated by hand. I have the camera disassembled and need some guidance to open correct part of the lens housing to fix mechanics of its movements.

Nikon Coolpix L18: Battery cover door will not close and latch

I have 2 Nikon Coolpix L18 cameras. Both battery cover doors will not latch and stay closed. One cover has been replaced, but still will still not stay closed. It is not a very good advertisement for Nikon to see covers held on with tape,which sometim es is not too effective.

My lens will not retract but has not been dropped. I have tried using canned air, lens paper for any dust or restrictive particle, cannot tell if uneven retract attempt jammed, tried connecting with usb cable to give a little extra "boost" hoping the "surge" would help "unstick". This has been a GREAT camera for several years, PLEASE HELP!
