Nexus 6: My Nexus 6 battery will not charge

Hey, so I performed a glass-only repair on my Nexus 6 (I run small repair business). All went well, the display looks/ works fantastic and everything works fine except the battery.

Nothing seems to have been damaged, but the battery will no longer take a charge. I've tried the Moto turbo charger, PC USB, Samsung chargers, all the same issue.

The device will absolutely happily work while plugged in...it just won't charge the battery. The battery just 'flat-lines' no charge / no depletion. The charging bolt shows on the icon, but status shows 'Not charging'.

I successfully flashed the latest Android 6 via USB cable. I have wiped and formatted everything. I did notice that it was charging (went from 10% up to 34%) while booted into TWRP custom recovery whilst doing a backup - but since I restored stock > updated Android 6 > flashed latest TWRP it no longer charges even in TWRP recovery.

I have let the battery deplete and automatically power off, then left on charge for a few hours but it still won't take a charge. The device boots up with 1% and will just happily work forever on 1% while plugged in.

Any ideas?

Nexus 6: Wireless Charger Won't Charge New QI Coil

Recently my wireless charger would give me a blinking light, meaning there was something wrong with the connection, and my Nexus 6 could not charge.

After replacing the coil according to your video, the charger won’t register the phone at all.

1)

I suspect that the conduits on the coil aren’t lining up properly in the phone, because the part of the frame that part of the frame is missing.

(Here is an imgur link to the piece I am refering too: https://imgur.com/vIfT3dg )

2)

I’m also wondering if there is an issue with the adhesive on the coil. On my old coil, you can see an orange conduit connecting both connector strips. But on my new coil, that is covered with adhesive, could that be an issue?

(He is an imgur link to what I am referring too: https://imgur.com/nT41bec )

3) Is applying the QI coil to the charger directly, without the back case, just to see if the charger sees the coil something I can try just to see if the coil placement is the issue?

I don’t know if there’s something wrong with the coil placement, the coil itself, or some other issue.

Thank you for your help.

Nexus 6: Nexus 6 damaging charging cables

I'm having this really weird problem and I've no idea if there's any solution available online.

From past few months, whatever charger I'm putting in it, it's just not working ever again. It takes time, but after like 1-2 weeks the cable just doesn't work.

It has happened to over 4 charging cables now, all this time I thought that it happened because of one charger, but now I think it's because of the phone. Please tell me what to do asap as I don't want to waste more wires on this.

I couldn't find anything anywhere while searching online, every tutorial is regarding a broken cable or something. There's absolutely no damage anyhow on the cable, it's just that it has stopped working from inside. And I've tested on different adapters and different wires, all the wires aren't working now i.e. some don't charge at all, others charge at below 100mah(the adapter's I used were 1A and 2A)

It's a big tension for me as I just can't be going on buying cables every week or month just for this. Please please help!

Nexus 6: Is it possible that it's overcharged? Which contacts to measure?

My Nexus 6 pooped out on me yesterday. The previous night it shut down randomly (Not powered down- just went black and then started back up.) and I didn't think much of it. The next morning it froze briefly and shut down just like last night, except it didn't power on. It was on the charger, but wasn't warm at all as it had been charging all night. I tried to access the fastboot (I had it enabled) but nothing, no response at all. So I had to tear it down. It was plugged in both times it shut down.

Once I had access to the battery connector, I measured it with my multimeter. The two contacts on the sides had "P+" and "P-" under them, like this:

When I contacted my multimeter to these, it registered 4.10 volts. I know this isn't normal voltage for this battery, but shouldn't it still start up? Any chance it ruined the logic board? Upon inspection, the logic board looks perfect. At least the front side of it. The battery looks visually perfect too.

@avanteguarde Any chance you think this is firmware related?

@theimedic @refectio is it bad for an iPhone battery to be above 3.7v? Do you think I wasn't measuring the voltage right?

I was saving up for something else more important and I don't want to buy a new phone right now, so if I can make this one last another 12 months that would be great.

Nexus 6: Nexus 6 only turns on when the charger is plugged in

My nexus device only turns on when is connected to the charger, it shuts off whenever not plugged in.

Some weeks ago i noticed my nexus was randomnly shutting down at 15-21% battery then it got worse now at 55-60% of battery, one week later it came at the point that at 90% of battery shut down and have to charge it again and finally now it shuts off whenever not plugged in. I read in many forums about similar problems and tried a few "solutions" like Entering in bootloader then bootloader logs pressing 10 seconds the power button after this process this should reset the battery statistics and boot the phone but it didn't work, Factory reset, calibrating the battery and others but no one of this worked. What could be the problem?

Also in the bootloader it shows a message that indicates the state of the battery is OK

Nexus 6: Can I fix my 3.5 mm jack? [pic]

Got a nexus 6 64 gb 3 weeks ago. The 3.5 mm headphone jack is not functioning properly. The problem consists of the audio being

1) very low volume and

2) distorted in a specific way; the bass and parts of the midrange seem to be missing.

The result when listening to news etc on radio is that some people's voices sound fine and others very low or distorted. Music sounds completely distorted.

This is an intermittent problem. I've tried using my regular headphones which work fine with other devices. They have a TRRS plug and a switch to swap between android and iPhone compatiblity although this setting does nothing in this case, sounds the same. When I plugged these in yesterday just to see if the problem was still there the sound was completely fine, problem gone. Later that day I tried again and the problem was there.

I've tried plugging in a pair of other TRRS-plug headphones which work in other devices with the same result.

Now, I tried plugging in another pair of headphones which have a TRS-plug and these always work. So if I plug in my TRRS-plug headphones, problem is there, switch to my TRS-plug headphones, problem is gone.

I can't figure out any other explanation than that the 3.5mm jack on my nexus 6 is broken.

Here's a pick of my plugs: http://imgur.com/FuqavHv

Nexus 6: Charging problem and holding charge problems

My Nexus 6 will only recognize that it is plugged in to charge if I first turn it off plug it in while it is off wait for the battery to flash charging then turn it back on.If I just plug it in while its turned on it simple doesn’t recolonize its plugged in at all. and it only charges with what seems like random cords Example both cords that came with the phone will no longer work at all with it but they charge my Blu phone just fine but my Blu phone cord will charge it after I do the turn off then plug in dance. I tried doing a factory reset hoping that if it is a software issue that would resolve it to no avail. Not only that when I charge it fully I can use it for an hour leave it on sleep mode till the next morning and its so dead all you get is the flashing dead battery icon. Has anyone else had similar problems? Any ideas what might be causing all of this?

The phone boots up and powers down as expected. I can receive phone calls and talk on the phone. I can use voice commands via "OK Google" to have it read my text messages when they are received and to reply to them. Will this problem be fixed with just a straight screen replacement?
Nexus 6: Logic board schematic / service manual for a Nexus 6

I got a Nexus 6 from a friend's dad who said that an egg was cracked into the phone accidentally (both were in the person's pocket), and it didn't turn on any more.

They wanted me to see if I could get it working in the hopes of recovering data from it.

After inspecting the motherboard and cleaning most of the egg off, I noticed that a few capacitors were corroded and desperately needed replacement, since the pads on the side of a few of them were completely missing.

Anyway, I need to figure out the values for these, as the damaged caused to them potentially is the reason it's not turning on, on top of the fact that the egg was shorting quite a few things out as well.

If anyone can provide a link to a schematic or service manual that might describe what that area of the board does, I would be - as iFixit says - eternally grateful :)

Nexus 6: Replacing battery & motherboard Nexus 6 still does not work

A couple years ago, I got my Nexus 6 wet, and it stopped working. I let it sit in my drawer for a while, and recently decided to start repairing it. I bought a replacement motherboard and battery and installed both using the guide on iFixit. However, the phone is still not working. I can get an indication of charging when I use a Qi charging pad, but nothing when using a USB. It is not recognized as plugged in when connected by USB to PC. When I try to turn the phone on, there is no indication that an attempt to turn on is being made. The screen is never on at any point.

Two questions:
