Nexus 4: I have a non responsive touch screen. Can I recover my data?

I purchased my Nexus 4 during the first Wave. I received my phone a day before I left on a tour across the country. Mid way through the tour, the device slipped out of my pocket on to the floor. It was it's first fall, and it was a fatal one. There is a large crack across the screen, and the screen doesn't respond to any touch input. The display still works fine though. But the glass seems to be pressed to close as I can see the liquid crystal move a bit when I try to use it. I did not have the device in USB Mass Storage mode and I had yet to unlock the bootloader. After numerous calls to both google and LG...they claim they can do nothing for me in terms of recovering the data.

Is there any way to recover what I have on the phone at all? Better yet, is there anyway to repair the screen? I will even go as far as purchasing a new phone, removing the main board from my original N4 and placing it in the new one if it would work.

EDIT: Figured I should update and thank anyone who's responded. The utility mentioned bellow is amazing. However, unless the phone has USB debugging enabled, there isn't much hope. As far has I know the N4 stock cannot function as a USB host. So for now, my N4 sits idle on a self until I decide to replace the screen. It's just amazing...four small cracks towards the top, and the touch screen is simply dead. I have an HTC One S where over 70% of the display is completely shattered, and shards are missing as well...and it still functions perfectly. Thanks everyone for the insight...and remember to turn usb debugging on : (

Nexus 4: Touchscreen not working after display change

After dropping my Nexus 4 and breaking the front glas, the touch screen did not work anymore. I decided to change the full display unit (digitizer + LCD). I have now replaced the display unit with a new one and connected everything as it was before. Turning on the phone worked instantly and the new LCD shows a flawless starting screen. However, the touch functionality does not work at all. So now I'm wondering if I made a mistake in reassembling the phone or if the new display unit is defective. Is there anything I might have missed? Or is there a way to test if the problem lies with the display unit or the rest of the phone?

I should note that I got the new display from ebay and while it certainly is new, I assume it's not an original part. I also noticed that my old unit had some sort of shielding on top of the chip that is right above the digitizer connector, my new unit does not have this shielding...

Any help would be appreciated!

Nexus 4: Red Light of death blinking after battery and motherboard replace?

It all began with my broken screen. I sent the device to my assurance and got it back after a few days. I got the same device with a new screen. Everything seemed to be fine but suddenly my phone started to turn of with a battery capacity of 95%. This happend every 1 to 3 minutes. There is no possibility to send it back. I tried to recalibrate the battery while the nexus was turned on, but that also didn't work. Now it only turns on, if I press the power button while plugging in the cable. Then the Google Logo appears and it turns off again after 4-5 seconds. If I don't press the power button while plugging in, the red notification light turns on and starts to blink in irregular intervals. If I try to access fastboot mode the device turns also off again after round about 5 seconds. There's no chance to "power-off" the phone manually. After all of that that didn't work I ordered a new battery. I opened the case on replaced it. Nothing changed. Now I ordered a secondhand mainboard on ebay. I replaced it with the iFixit manual, but the lamp is still blinking when I try to turn the nexus on. (Like before it only turns on for some seconds if I plug the cable in while pressing the power button.) My last idea was the USB Flex, I ordered one yesterday. Do you have any other ideas how to repair my device?

Thanks a lot!

Nexus 4: Nexus 4 screen regularly blacks out when make a call

The screen on my Nexus 4 regularly blacks out when I make a phone call. This has got worse since I had the screen replaced recently. I can hear the call but I cannot then use the screen to switch to speaker and worst of all I cannot disconnect the call. If I keep intermittently pressing the on/off button the screen will flash intermittently and if I keep hitting where the disconnect bar is I can after a while hit it just at the right time and I get my screen back. Nightmare! Is there a remedy to this fault?

I was using a nano sim in my Nexus 4, using an adapter.
Nexus 4: Why my smartphone has huge bugs when it is not plugged in?

Hi,

My smartphone has several problems when he is not plugged in.

First time, it was when I used the camera in Vietnamese mountain. It was during the raining season and it was very very humid. The phone suddenly turned off. Since this day, when I use the camera, my phone frequently turns off.

I broke my screen for the second time. It was still there, with this very humid environment. Then, my phone started to have more and more problems.

Now, when my phone is not plugged in, it:

- turn off suddenly,

- does not found the GSM network

- ask several times the PIN code

- turn off again ...etc...

and now, these problems are almost permanent, but, I can use my phone normally without problem when I plug it in external battery or the mains supply.

I thought that could come from my broken screen... but I have changed it yet and my phone is still not working properly.

One more information, the first time I had fixed my phone screen, I did maybe some damages to the battery. The battery was very well stuck. I forgot to use the plastic tool. I use the screwdriver to lift the battery.

Do you have an idea of where this problem come from?

Nexus 4: Is there a way to dry out my display?

My Nexus 4 stopped working after a lot of rain water entered the phone while I was riding my bike. I guess it was in contact with water for about half an hour max. After I got home, the LED notification light was working fine but the screen wont turn on. As I didn't have the tools to disassemble the phone, I let it dry overnight in the rice bowl. The next morning, the screen flickered on once, but then went dead. I took it to the LG service center and they told me that the motherboard needed to be replaced and would cost me about 12.5K rupees (approx.$200).

So, I took the dead phone to a local repair center and the technician there said that one of the IC's had fried and he could try replacing it. Luckily, only the power IC had fried and after replacing it with a new one, my Nexus 4 came back to life, with all the data in its place. It cost me just 3000 rupees (approx. $50) for this.

The only issue that I'm having now is that there's still some water left in the display. The technician said that I might dry away within a couple of days. Funnily, the middle section of the screen isn't responding to any touch. I'm unable to make the notifications go away by tapping "Ok" or "Cancel". I'm unable to even switch off my phone this way. Also, the widget window keeps popping up if I leave the screen unlocked.

Is replacing the display the only solution to get this fixed? Please help.
