Motorola Moto Z Play: Touch not working after screen replacement

I replaced the digitizer and OLED screen on my Moto Z Play and now touch isn't working on the screen. I made sure everything is seated properly, but it's just not working at all. The only thing I can think of is that somehow the zif connector for the pair isn't seating all the way in as the line on the cable does not sit exactly at the opening where the cable mates, but about a millimeter out from it.

HELP! I dropped my Moto Z2 play phone in a pool 8 inches deep. I picked it up immediately and shook it out but then the screen went wonky. I put it in a bag of rice for 3 days....there is a white light that blinks when I plug it in but then disappears and won't turn on. is there a reset buttton or what can I do to make it work again. I thought these phones were water resistant? So disappointed and I really can't afford to purchase another one.

Motorola Moto Z Play: Moto Z Play, replaced defective battery, phone no longer charging

The battery on my Moto Z Play expanded and started pushing the screen outwards.

I dis-assembled the phone and replaced the battery, but now the phone does not take a charge.

Tried using the USB cable and wireless charger moto mod, same issue.

Tried a second battery from another supplier, same problem. Not charging.

Tried factory reset, and charging at boot loader, didn’t help.

The phone works off the 20% charge that the replacement batteries came with, works when plugged in with cable.

Is there anything I’m missing? What could be the cause of the problem.

Following the iFixit guide I carefully removed the LCD assembly from my Moto Z play now the new assembly is completely unresponsive the old display was broken but with my projector mod it would respond to touch I tried reconnecting the old display now it won’t respond, all I connected was the wide ribbon cable for the LCD I’m guessing that’s all that is needed to test the new LCD I had no issues replacing it, I’m missing something somewhere? Any ideas?

Motorola Moto Z Play: Drilling stripped screws out

Hi there, I have some T3 screws, at least it used to be until it's pretty much stripped.

I have try tipping the screwdriver with cyanoacrylate, hammering the screw head with a flathead screwdriver to create a slot, rubber band.

I'm seriously considering to drill the screw since some are recessed, so I can't dremel it.

Here are the specification of the screws.

1.38mm stem diameter

2.68mm head diameter

counter clockwise to unscrew

I'm considering to use a 1/16" drill bit.

Some questions I wanted to know the answers before proceeding.

Will some of the screw left behind so I can't install a new screw into the hole?

Does the rotation of the drill bit matter?

Motorola Moto Z Play: New battery: lightning icon blinks, won't turn on

Hi everyone,

I bought a second hand Moto Z Play (XT1635-01), and the battery swelled up after a bit of usage so I bought a new one plus some Tesa tape from iFixit; it took some time to replace and the first charge went smoothly so I left it unplugged to see how long it’d last.

At 63%, it turned off by itself like it did with the old battery. I turned it back on, and it booted alright at the same % but shut down shortly. When I plugged the charger, it went through a few cycles of (lightning bolt in a circle -> charging LED blinks -> black screen) before showing a % indication, but it wouldn’t boot: the light blue Moto screen shows for a second and it starts allover again.

Current status: No % indicator, just the lightning icon loop. The only “stable” screen I can reach is the bootloader mode, which alternatively shows “Battery Low (Charging)” and “Battery OK”. Trying to boot system or recovery gets me 1 second of blue screen so I can’t even wipe/reset it.

Did I get a bad battery?
