Microsoft Surface Pro 7: Display ribbon cable coming not attached to the screen? How to fix?

I'm going through a repair of a surface 7, have followed the instructions provided through iFixit, and am using the kit that comes along with it and the screen replacement. But I'm going to reattach the new screen and there is a ribbon cable that is not attached to the traces on the new screen as it should be according to the old screen and how it is set up... How am I supposed to attach this to the traces? Do I need special equipment? is this a soldering job? I'm lost and need some help.

This is the old screen display ribbon cables

This is the new one and how it came to us in the box

Microsoft Surface Pro 7: Replaced my screen on wife's SP7 but now mic isn't working!

Hi - I had to replace my wife's screen for this device. Its very challenging but your guide was really useful! I was finally in the position to put the screen back on with adhesive but did a final test (I replaced the screen and as instructed damaged the wifi antenna so purchased a replacement of that too).

But now - the microphone(s) aren't working! Windows picks up the device but zero sound input. Any ideas or tips on this issue? I have seen the microphone cables for sale but not sure that will fix my issue.

Any help much appreciated!

Update (11/29/25)

Hi all - I figured it out. When I replaced the wifi areial part I did not re-connect the two microphone sensors - they are super small so I missed them.

If anyone else has the same issue feel free to reach out!

Microsoft Surface Pro 7: Surface Pro 7 Display-related failure

This computer is really important for uni, so please leave a reply with ANY information or other resource you suspect might be useful. Thanks!

Two days ago while writing in onenote, the display on my 3 year old Surface Pro 7 just froze up with thick lines of digital noise covering a large part of the screen. After restarting the computer it can't get past the Microsoft boot logo. Video output using the USB-C port is completely fine, but although it lists two displays, the OS shows the built-in display as greyed out (disconnected?).

Tried: All types of force-restarting, draining battery, booting to BIOS (can't display it)

I suspect part of the screen is broken for some reason, but what puzzles me is the boot logo? Obviously the LCD isn't broken if it can display the logo without problems. What I'm wondering now is what part of the computer is responsible for showing the Microsoft boot logo on the display?

Is it the OS or BIOS? (In this case, this would mean the screen can accept a signal, right?)

Is it programmed into the display board shown in this guide?

In the second case, I suspect a screen replacement wouldn't necessarily resolve anything if the display board has lost its signal in or out?

Microsoft Surface Pro 7: Surface Pro 7 replacement screen touch issues

So I replaced my cracked screen on my surface pro 7. Bought the screen from iFixit and followed instructions on iFixit along with multiple videos on YouTube. Used the 3mm tape from iFixit as well to reassemble. It works fine but screen sensitivity is intermittent with touch. Sometimes it works fine, but other times I have to tap multiple times and other times it barely works. But even when the screen isn't responding with my finger, it always responds great to the surface pro pen. Possibly a defective screen, or are there drivers that can be reloaded? Any help would be appreciated.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7: Blue Screen of Death

My mom's Microsoft Surface Pro 7's original charger stopped working, so she used my MacBook charger. It worked for a while, and then the computer suddenly shut off when she was doing some test. When we charged the Surface back up, we decided to turn it on. We saw the blue screen of death. It brought us to the automatic repair thingy, and it said, "Your PC did not start correctly" So, I clicked the restart button, and it brought us to the blue screen of death again, going to the automatic repair, showing the same thing again. I decided to go to Advanced Options, Troubleshoot, and Reset PC. And it was asking for a BitLocker recovery key. As we remember, we got the laptop from Costco and set it up by ourselves. I checked my mom's account, and the Bitlocker recovery key is not there. Also, the stop code is BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO. Is there a solution? We don't need the data back.

Microsoft Surface Pro 7: Replace USB and USB C Ports

Hi All,

I watched the tear down video of the Surface pro 7, which i own one of.

Just thinking to the future, i see the Surface Connect Port is easily replaceable, and i also noticed that the USB ports are soldered to the motherboard its self.

My question is, if and only if the USB C port wears out for any given reason as some of them seem to do. Can you remove the motherboard and solder on a new USB port, or USB C port. Hopefully never have to do it, but i would assume that the ports are a standard item.

Thanks
