Microsoft Surface Pro 5: Surface Pro 5 3rd touch failure. Screen replacement didn't fix the los

Hello everyone!

I am so lost and really don't know what to do anymore. My customers Surface Pro 5 has lost it's touch function after a windows 10 update. Also there is no touch input within the UEFI bios.

Since I am a technician, I installed a known good tester display with new cables and a working touch board. Nothing.

Got a new display from AliExpress with a new touch controller, it worked until the first reboot. Aaaaand it's gone.

I did check the AliExpress display on a tester surface pro 5 and it worked prior to installing it on my customers device.

After I installed it on my customers SP5 it no longer worked.

I feel like this surface pro 5 has a habit of frying display touch controllers. Checked the board for any heat spots or water damage but there is nothing.

All the voltages are fine and no capacitors or resistors are bad.

So what the hell is going on here? Do you guys have any idea what the issue could be?

Reinstalled everything as well btw and tried win 11 with no luck.

Had a similar issue with my personal Surface Pro 5 and had to replace the motherboard.

This is how ever a 1TB i7 board and it would a shame to trash it.

Best regards

Microsoft Surface Pro 5: Pro 5 1796 not detecting new battery.

Hello all, I recently replaced the battery in my Surface Pro 5 1796, and upon powering it back on, Windows shows no battery present in the tablet. There is no battery icon in the taskbar, no battery settings in the Settings app, and upon checking device manager, it says that the Surface Battery is not installed in the computer.

Despite this, the battery is still sending power out to the system. I can unplug and use the device just fine, but when the battery dies, it immediately shuts off. No low battery warning, sleep state, or low battery icon from the UEFI when you try to power it up. Just a black screen.

This tells me that the battery is seated correctly in its spot, but something within the software is messing it up. I've tried reinstalling drivers, doing windows update, and performing a Surface Diagnostics Test, but to no avail. I have yet to try a full re installation of Windows.

If someone has any tips or solutions to this, please let me know. Thanks.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5: Red screen after change display

Hello, I accidentally broke the screeen on my surface, so I went to a local repair point to have a professional repair of my PC. All good but after a month the screen has started to have some red flash as you can see in the video. So I returned to the repair point and he tried to repair but he said that is not the display but is the graphic card broken, so I can't do nothing. Do you agree with him or is a problem of compatibility/ display broken?

I tried also to connect to a external screen via HDMI and there isn't any red flash

Microsoft Surface Pro 5: Touchscreen only works when touching the case

I bought an used SP5 and replaced the screen. All went perfect and no issue seemed to be present. But after using it more, I found a problem with the touch recognition. I can only use my finger to interact while touching the Metall case of the SP5, when laying it on the table (or any other surface) it won't recognize the touch input. I tried every other troubleshooting tip (reinstalling drivers, firmware, resting or setting the calibration etc).

I do have a screen protector on the screen. Might this be the problem? Or do I have to open the device again? Maybe there's some current acting as phantom touch on the whole screen? Magnetic interference? Surface pen works flawless.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5: Surface Tcon Device cannot start (STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE)

Replaced battery and screen on Surface Pro 5. After reassembling I powered on the device and started up ok, but a portion of the screen wasn’t responding. to touch. I shut it down and disassembled to check my connections but when I did I removed one of the connectors improperly. This damaged the pins slightly. I was able to gently bend them into place and when I pushed the ribbon cable into it seemed to connect in just fine. Removing the ribbon cable and inspecting the pins again looks ok to my eyes, but when I power on the device there is no backlight, the microsoft logo flashes a couple times and the display goes black. Connecting to a external display shows the device powered on just fine. I’ve checked all my other connections and they seemed fine. I’m stuck looking at the connector I damaged but it too looks like it should be working still. Anyone have a schematic or can at least tell me which ribbon cable provides power (left or right) to the display.
