Microsoft Surface Pro 2: Power Cover Not Working

Hey guys

I recently got myself a second hand Surface Pro 2 for work and while the device itself is in perfect working order I've had some problems getting the accessories to work properly. My Type Cover works perfectly; just clipped on and is detected fine and works exactly as promised. However, the Power Cover I got simply will not be detected at all.

As best I can tell the Power Cover was brand new and is in perfect condition from the outside. But something is up here. I have tried cleaning the contacts as MS Support suggests but that has had no effect. I just don't know anything else that I could try but I'd really like to get the Power Cover working if at all possible because I would love the extended battery life.

Can anyone suggest any possible fixes for a power cover?

I replaced my surface pro 2 screen/digitizer assembly as it was damaged. The unit was working prior to the replacement. Once the new screen was installed I tried to switch on the unit to check the screen was working. I charged it overnight. The unit will not switch on. The unit will not boot as it seems as if it is not getting power. I have tried holding down the power button for 30 sec and holding the power and volume up button to 15 secs, neither work. Please could somebody help. Dave

Microsoft Surface Pro 2: Surface Pro 2 shutdown randomly

My surface Pro 2 shutdowns randomly without reasons, I've found a pattern: every 30 minutes with 0 seconds! exactly 30 minutes. Tried resetting, installing recovery image. I've had an issue installing recovery image: when I choose "fully clean the drive" after 30 minutes 0 seconds (33% installing) surface shutdowns by itself. I can only install the recovery image choosing the "just remove my files" option because takes less than 30 minutes. It's not a driver issue, not an OS issue, not heat issue, as crazy as it sound, it's a time issue (¿planned obsolescence?)

I CAN'T FULLY CLEAN THE DRIVE the Surface turns off by itself before finnish. I've contacted 4 times to Microsoft support and last time they were unable to get me another solution.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2: Replacement Surface Pro 2 screen lacks camera bracket

The touch functionality has gone a bit wonky on my Surface Pro 2 (I get occasional “phantom touches” down the left side of the screen), so I’ve decided to roll the dice on opening it back up and replacing the LCD assembly.

Looking at the replacement LCDs available (including the ones that iFixit used to sell), they all appear to be missing a plastic bracket that surrounds the space where the the front facing camera peers out of.

I wanted to ask if a) anyone had any idea of how to swap that piece between displays, or if they knew where to buy a replacement or b) what the effect of leaving it off might be. I suspect it might have something to do with the white camera light that comes on when you turn on the front facing camera.

Any help anyone could offer would be appreciated.

Microsoft Surface Pro 2: Regarding replacing the adhesive on a Microsoft Surface Pro 2

I’ve seen similar questions to this, but many of the answers are old (likely due to the age of the device) or don’t address all my questions so I wanted to seek the latest and greatest. My apologies if this is a misstep.

I’ve completed the battery replacement of a Surface Pro 2, tested it to make sure everything works, and now need to stick the screen back on.

I’m uncertain which adhesive to use. Many people in these forums seem to recommend Tesa 61395 or it’s earlier red tape equivalent. Some favor a variety of different 3M tapes. Is Tesa 61395 adequate for tablet screens (rather than smaller phone screens)? Do I need to be concerned regarding the thickness (as in depth) of the tape? Ifixit offers precut sheets of Tesa 61395. However I’m uncertain how big those are, and thus how many I’d need to buy to stick a tablet. Any advice on that?

How difficult is it to remove Tesa 61395 if I need to open the device again. I feel like the ifixit / tesa video listed it’s heat point as something like 200 degrees celsius (far higher than the 60 - 80 I was recommended to heat the Surface Pro 2 screen on to open it).

When it comes to applying adhesive, the consensus seems to be that one should clean all the residue of the previous adhesive off. With the Surface Pro 2 that will be… difficult without specialized products. Is there any concern in using a product like a goo-gone to clean the digitizer or plastic bezel?

Regardless, my thanks for any advice anyone might have, and my apologies for the trouble.
