Microsoft Surface Pro 4: Surface Pro 4 won't turn on at all after battery replacement

Hey! So I followed the guide here on iFixit to replace my battery. Unfortunately now my Surface Pro 4 won’t turn on at all (unplugged or plugged in). Nothing happens, not even the fan goes on.

I can’t really figure out what the problem might be. Maybe someone can give me a clue where to look next or what it might be?

A few more notes:

When I tore off the screen I broke one of the three antennas at the top, but I would guess this wouldn’t cause this problem.

When I first tried to turn it on, I forgot to connect the fan back to the mainboard. I fixed that very shortly after.

After it didn’t work the first time, I removed the battery again and put it back in, but that didn’t help either.

I hope that is enough information!

Microsoft Surface Pro: Surface Pro screen popping out of the chassis

I've been using my Surface Pro intensivily for about three years, most of times doing intensive tasks that generate a lot of heat, which would explain the problem.

It seems like the glue that holds the screen in place is starting to let go, so the screen is starting to pop out in the bottom right corner

So, my question is, what is the best way to put it back in place?

I thought about using double sided tape, but I don't think the space is big enough to actually put it there safely.

I've also thought about using some kind of glue or adhesive, but I'm not really sure about exactly what and how.

Here's a picture of how it looks like:

Microsoft Surface Pro 4: Can I replace the hinge or kickstand of my Surface Pro 4

I accidentally stepped on my Surface Pro 4, and one of the hinges on the kickstand broke. Rather than replacing the entire device (I do have a warranty) I would rather try to fix it myself. The left friction hinge still works fine, but is not strong enough to hold the device alone. The kickstand itself is not cracked and would not need any replacement, only the right hinge is damaged.

Microsoft Surface Pro 4: Can Pro4's Samsung screen being replaced by LG's?

Unfortunately, I also suffered LCD screen failure of Surface Pro4 like the most of people. I don’t know how to called this issue but I believe you know.

Now I’ve purchased a brand new LCD pannel from Chinese Taobao to replace its original pannel Samsung LTY123YL01-005 (AIDA64 shows -001 though). I’ve learned from forums and websites that Samsung’s screen for Pro4 has flaws and Microsoft switch it to Pro5’s LG LP123WQ1 at the last batch. So I also purchased LG’s.

The seller told me that connector cable also needs to be replaced because Samsung’s is not compatible. After a few days I received my new scrren and connector. But after installation I can see nothing showing on the new screen, it was totally black including the backlight.

I’m confused. Is that old Surface Pro4 model incompatible with new LG screen? The new connector can connect scrren to mainboard correctly and OS boots normally but I can’t get any image.

Another thing is I discovered this new connector’s solder joint having some problems. AIDA64 cannot find new pannel’s name(viewed from Microsoft RD) and I doubt that the seller sending me a bad connector.

Now I’ve bought a new connector from another seller and it’s on the way. But I still holding the question. Can Surface Pro4’s Samsung screen being replaced by LG’s directly? Did anybody also completed the same replacement?

Microsoft Surface Pro 3: Cracked Glass Maybe Digitizer

I have a Surface Pro 3 that just had to fall and thus crack the glass. Now when it boots up, it has touch circles that race up and down the crack as if someone is touching it in that area. However, I am able to do touch on one side of the screen when this happens. Does this mean that just the glass is ncracked or has the digitizer been damaged? I figured that the digitizer is detecting the crack as touch. Do you think a simple glass protector like the Zagg glass ones would pull both sides of the crack back in sync to allow full screen touch again?

Microsoft Surface Pro 3: Wont' turn on after screen replacement

Hi

I've just replaced an SP3 screen. I've done a number before without issues.

Prior to replacement the screen was cracked and the display froze on the surface boot logo. Sort of as if the bios were engaging but couldn't find the drive to load up the OS.

prior to removing the screen I waited until the battery was dead and then went ahead. the screen came off relatively easily, no trauma to any cables apart from the digitiser, which was dead anyway. in cleaning the edges of adhesive I tore the copper strip on top of the USB port - but that's replaced now and certainly no damage to the physical port underneath.

I now get no response from the hardware at all. no screen light, but also nothing hardwareish like the fan going or the processor warming etc.

I've tried hard resets and i've tried booting to UEFI and to a usb image. all without any noticeable change. this is not a DOA screen as the old screen is exhibiting the same behaviour.

the charge port works fine. I've measured the voltage of the battery before (7.4v) and after (8.7v) charging and the top right of the tablet gets warm after a chunk of time on charge. the keyboard lights up as well; and is responsive to the caps and Fn keys (the light turns on and off).

any clues about where to search for issues? Anyone know where I can find the circuit schematics to trace the power lines?

Microsoft Surface Pro: Grinding / Buzzing Fan

Hi guys,

So my out of warranty Surface Pro has developed a potentially very expensive / annoying problem......

One of the CPU fans has become extremely noisey when the CPU is under load and it's trying to cool the thing down. We're not talking about wooshing air here, it sounds like a mosquito has got inside and is buzzing like its on drugs. Essentially its sounds mechanical...

I'm loathed to take the machine to Microsoft as I think I'll get automatically told to send it off for servicing and it'll cost me $300 - $500 to replace a $20 fan. So what I'm trying to find first is a safe lubricant that I can spray into the vents on the device (ideally while it's on) in an attempt to lube up whatever is causing the buzzing.

Does anyone really technical have an suggestions? My reading so far suggests a silicon based spray is good. But I'm terrified to spray anything into it!

If the spray solution doesn't work I'm guessing the only option after that is to surrender my credit card to Microsoft?
