Hi folks, I am looking for a keyboard for my Microsoft Laptop 3 1868 Black-Metal with German keyboard (not Switzerland/Luxembourg or USA). Microsoft won't tell me if it's still available anywhere. I could send the device in (takes too long). I only found it on ebay in China (too risky). The ifixit community is my last option (before buying a new device [because of a defect keyboard...]). By the way, only a few keys (1,2,3,4,ß,q,w,e,r,...) work badly and a cleaning would not help, said Microsoft? Many thanks for your comments! Seb

My Surface Laptop 3 battery was lasting less than an hour so I decided to replace it myself, pretty sure it was easy and straightforward because I remember that the SSD i replaced like 4 years ago was very easy to serve.

I ordered the battery and put myself to work, using the iFixit guide step by step. After reassembling everything, the laptop would only work when connected to the AC: the light on the charger was on but windows would not see any battery and it would istantly turn off as soon as I disconnected it from the network.

Suspecting that the battery was not correctly connected, i disassembled and reassembled everything again, but now it wouldn't even turn on and the light on the Surface Connect charger wasn't showing. After disassembling and reassembling everything again, I convinced myself battery was fauly and bought another.

I have installed the second battery but I have still the same problem: laptop won't turn on and "charger won't charge" (meaning no white led on Surface charger).

I suspect I may have made some damage to the internal circuitry and am just about to give up and accept the fact I will have to buy a new laptop, but I am here asking if there is anything I can try before finally giving up. I have followed the guide very thoroughly, especially last time, so I wouldn't suspect any missing connectors or something like that, but would like to hear others opinion on any common mistake one could make when reassembling this model which could be related.

Any help would be very appreciated.

Is the base identical between the all metal and alcantara models? I would love to get the Cobalt Blue model, and then replace the alcantara palm rest with the matte black metal palm rest (seeing as it’s so easy to remove/replace). Would this be possible?

I opened the surface laptop 3 and removed the cable that connects keyboard and touchpad to the motherboard. I found a red light glowing on the left on magnet connector where the above cable attaches. what does this light indicates ? any information this would be very helpful. thank you

I have a Surface Laptop 3 and I want to buy a replacement screen. My laptop is black but only other colours (platinum, blue etc) are available. I thought I could get any colour to replace the screen, but there is note on the store that says "Check the color compatibility of this part carefully. This part will not replace a black display assembly."

Can anyone confirm if this is true, and I can only get a black screen for my laptop?

Hi There,

Recently my Surface Laptop 3 seems to have died. It will not power on no matter what I try.

I've tried booting into the UEFI with ctrl+F4+power button held for 20s.

When I plug the charger in, the charger LED comes on, but I noticed after holding the above combination, around 15s the LED will flash once, but the laptop won't boot.

Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Microsoft Surface Laptop 3: battery contact cable adhesive

I am rebuilding, having replaced the battery. In one of the later steps you heat the adhesive on the battery contact cable before gently removing. in the reverse - what adhesive should i use to fix the cable? it looks like its fixing to an aluminium patch - should i use thermal compound or regular hot glue or double sided tape?

The wifi stopped working and I tried reinstalling the drivers, but that didn't cure the problem.

Therefore, I am now using an external wifi.
I want to replace my wifi card.

I have watched various repair videos and while I can find the SSD, I cannot find the wifi card.

When upgrading the SSD on the surface there's a good chance that you might destroy the rubber feet. Thought it would be good to have them accessible. Couldn't find them on Amazon, or eBay.

Microsoft Surface Laptop 3: Surface charging port not working after rain

I left my backpack slightly open and my surface laptop 3 was rained on for a few minutes. It still works fine, except now it doesn’t charge in the surface charging port (the side that was exposed to the rain). I can still charge it over USB-C, but it’s not convenient. What might have happened and can it be fixed easily?
