Microsoft Surface Book Keyboard: Splashed water on the keyboard, some keys stopped working, fixes?

I used the laptop for a few minutes afterward before realizing I should disconnect. The dead keys seem to be in a vertical pattern down the keyboard (7+8, y+u, g+h, b+n, etc).

this happened a few hours ago and I’ve since bought some 91% isopropyl alcohol to soak it in since I heard that that is a strategy (I haven't been able to find 99%), but am having second thoughts about the risks+safety of that, especially since I don’t know whether the undetachable battery is a concern.

I've removed the keys and their spring mechanisms and was about to start scrubbing around with the alcohol+tips but am now busy with other things and have left it detached and upside down, but idk how time sensitive these things are, is there anything else I should try? thanks.

Microsoft Surface Book Keyboard: Keyboard section is not charging

I have a Microsoft Surface Book I (1703). The main battery in the keyboard section (1704) is not charging. Both batteries won’t charge if the two sections are together. Display section will charge on its own. Keyboard section will not charge on its own. Keyboard and trackpad work fine. Charging connector light will not come on when plugged into the keyboard section. No pins are bent/broken on charging port. Tried cleaning pins. Took off the bottom cover and reseated cables. Found that when main battery is disconnected (internally in keyboard section), the power adapter light will flash, when connected. Does this mean main battery is at fault? Not sure if video board in keyboard section has some smarts or just provides pass-thru for power, keyboard and trackpad. Any resets I could try?

Microsoft Surface Book Keyboard: Bent charging port - should I buy a $100 replacement keyboard case?

After a fall, the metal around my charging port got bent in (see the picture)

because the charging cable was plugged in and it hammered in a portion of the metal casing. The port works, you just have to fiddle with it quite a bit in order to make it connect.

I was thinking, is it worth it to buy the following replacement metal casing:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replacement-B...

and transfer all the hardware into it?

Specifically, I have three doubts/questions:

From the ebay listing, can you guys figure out whether they're selling the whole casing (back and front) or only the front/keyboard part?

Does the ebay item linked above look to you 100% equivalent to the original Microsoft part (same metal alloy, same quality keys etc.)? If not, where can I find an adequate replacement (I didn't find the piece on ifixit)?

Is the replacement really hard? I see the device is rated 1 out of 10 in ifixit's repairability rating, and I don't want to damage it further…

Thanks and all the best!

Microsoft Surface Book Keyboard: Keyboard base - water damage

Hey guys,

i got a Surface Book 1704 with “water damage”. For some reason i´ll never understand, my buddy left it at a window… in winter. He then left for work and when he came home, there were a few centimeters snow on the keyboard part.

Since then, the keyboard won´t work. Im not tooo tech savvy but i can do minor stuff. Display changes etc. were no problem in the past.

So my plan now was, to open the keyboard (allready done, holy sh*t, that was glued in like !&&*) and look if i´ll see something suspicous on some contacts.

Symptoms are:

- when i put the charger to the base with no screen on it, the LED on the display button blinks one, no matter if battery is in or out.

- when the tablet is on the keyboard base, it does not do anything. Keyboard / trackpad won´t work and display button is glowing red all the time, no matter the battery percentage of the tablet.

Can anybody make something out of these symptoms and / or guide me to a specific part where i should look for corrosion?

Gotta wait for my torx t3 now anyways, since my old set from displaychanges did not have one.

Thanks in advance, Schnoinsch

Microsoft Surface Book Keyboard: Spilled drink over keyboard and now the fan is always at full speed

2 days ago I spilled accidentally a drink over my Surface Book keyboard (i5 with performance base) covering almost the left half of it. I tried my best to suck as much drink as I could. Unfortunately the drink had some coke or Pepsi on it, so that probably didn't help.

Right after this happened, the backlight stopped working, the USB were trying to connect and disconnect to a non existing device and the keyboard stopped working for a few minutes, then worked again, and so on. I turned it off and then tried it again yesterday. These last 2 days, there are no longer any of the issues mentioned before and the keyboard seems to be working fine besides the fact that there are some sticky keys, although I can manage living with it all things considered.

However, since yesterday the keyboard fan kicks in as soon as I turn on the laptop. Even when I detach the screen from the keyboard, it is working until I turn the device off. I measured the temp of the GPU and it's never over 30 as I'm not using it (just some browsing), so I wonder what's making the fan be at full speed at all times.

I would have no problema on taking it to Microsoft for repair and pay whatever they charge, but I live in Argentina so it'll be a while until I go back to the US. So anyone know what might be going on and if there's a chance to repair it myself?

Fun (?) fact. I bought it 5 days ago. Kill me now.

Microsoft Surface Book Keyboard: Is it possible to buy a replacement hinge cable?

Hello, I have a 15” Surfacebook 2 (i7 16GB) and after getting constantly connecting/disconnecting issues with the keyboard/base, I took the base apart to find that one of the cables had broken/fried. It is the cable that connects the GPU board to the external connector that you would dock your Surfacebook on.

I verified that the base is the issue by connecting my SB2 the dock on a display model at Best Buy. This is the cable that flexes inside the hinge as you open and close the SB2.
