Mercedes W126: gas fumes but no apparent leak

gas fumes are apparent but no apparent leak

Update (09/02/2021)

Hi Brandon, Thanks for responding. I’ve had this car

for 21 years. It’s a 1989 560SEC. When I got it the mileage was 37,400. It now has about 79,000. It looks like new inside and out and drives very well. I notice the fuel smell occasionally while driving it, but when I put it away in the garage, the smell is extremely strong. All I’ve done is to look under the hood for anything obvious. I’ve also check the gas cap and when I remove it, there is some suction. I plan on putting it up on a lift to see if there are any fuel lines leaking. There is no pool of fuel ever, even immediately after driving it.

Mercedes W126: Can I fix keyfob with conductive glue

Have a keyfob that's not working. The 'open door' does not work. Close door and trunk buttons work.

Compared it to spare fob, and noticed two instances where tiny copper/gold plate circles were missing on the pcb board. Tested for continuity and failed. Good fob had continuity.

Wondering if carefully adding a drop of conductive glue in both areas would be a fix.

Photo has two arrows noting areas in question. The circled area represents the plate cover that exists on those two areas, on the good fob…(which are missing here)

Mercedes W126: 300SD won't start unless terminal box is shorted

Hi everyone,

I picked up a ragged 1982 300SD over the weekend for a great price. However, the other morning I couldn't get it to start. The starter wasn't turning over, but the car had power and a good battery. I couldn't hear a starter solenoid click either. From my research online and owning a couple of W123s, I tried shorting the two outer terminals of the starter terminal box with the key in the run position and it immediately fired right up.

What part could be going bad? The starter is new from the prior owner, so the only other ideas I could think is that either the neutral safety switch is bad or the ignition switch on the rear of the ignition assembly is bad. Are there any other parts I might want to look at? If all else fails, I'll install a push button start in conjunction with the key, but preferably, I'd like to fix the problem. Thanks!
