Magic Trackpad 2: My Magic Trackpad 2 looks different to the one iFixit?

HI folks, I'm attempting to replace the (discarded, swollen) battery of my Magic Trackpad 2, but (a) internally it doesn't look the same as the one here and (b) I can't figure out where the battery was attached before I safely discarded it.

(This was a magic trackpad 2 I was given for work, the battery of which swole during the pandemic, and which I offered to dispose of safely myself. I did this for the battery, but kept the rest of the electronics with the hope of replacing the battery!)

I've attached three photos of the model I have in front of me; isn't arranged like the internals of the one currently on iFixit!

My questions:

Does anyone have a model that looks like mine?

Does anyone have tips on how to attach a new battery? (I have an A1542, meant for a Magic Trackpad 2 that looks like the one on iFixit, so it may not work, but nonetheless!)

Would anyone else be interested in seeing the different internals of this same-model-numbered device?

Is it possible this is a knockoff? Or a corporate-only version??

The inside of the top/glass — basically only the glass and the touchpad electronics controller.

The inside of the bottom/batter/charging/haptics/lightning port

The model number (A1535) and serial number (that doesn't seem valid with Apple?)

(If these images are too low quality, I'm sure I can post them somewhere else)

Magic Trackpad 2: I have a Magic Trackpad 2 with a swelling lithium battery

Is there a replacement battery available for the Lithium Ion battery in my Magic Trackpad 2?

I recognize that this swelling is a potential fire hazard.

Further information: The battery is a TIS 2217-2548 Apple South Asia (Thailand) Limited Product, Lithium Ion Polymer Battery

Another question: Will the Magic Trackpad 2 operate with the battery disconnected or removed as long as it is plugged into my MacBook system?

Magic Trackpad 2: Magic Trackpad Power Switch Works but Does Not Snap When Slid

I’ve got a Magic Trackpad that is almost 8 years old but in great shape, and the Power Switch recently stopped snapping when toggling between on and off. (It seems to power on/off just fine, but the switch just moves freely from side to side with no resistance.) I’d like to know what may be wrong with mine, and if it can still be toggled on/off without causing further damage.

I found the below article on iFixit to figure it out myself, but am not sure how/if the author can be contacted to get more insight, so I posted here.

I have studied the attached pictures showing the green prong that is attached to the Power Switch, as well as the chip shown to contain whatever trigger is used for powering on/off, to determine what may cause the resistance the switch used to have both ways. However, the image resolution makes it difficult to see how parts interact with each other to power on/off. Does anyone know?

Magic Trackpad 2: Apple Magic Trackpad 2 - Replacement lightning port

Hi. Has anyone found a source of parts for the trackpad 2? I accidentally sliced the flex cable for the lightning port and would like a replacement. I haven't found anything on Ali, eBay or Amazon under searches like "A1535 port", etc.

Mine has a serial number but I don't recognise the initial character which according to A.I. is not a unicode character. It looks like a 7 combined with an F. The rest of the serial number is "...821-1988-A"

Magic Trackpad 2: What type of glass is used in a Magic Trackpad 2?

Hi everyone,

I am keen on the reusing/recycling principle so I am considering purchasing a second hand trackpad that has its glass shattered and wanted to know the type of glass I should be looking for in order to replace it. I’ve already seen that Apple does not offer spare parts for the trackpad, but I’d look elsewhere for this. I was wondering if anyone has any info about the type of glass used in a Magic Trackpad 2 as I could not find anything online.

Thanks,

Magic Trackpad 2: Replacement Taptic Engine part for Magic Trackpad 2

My Magic Trackpad 2 recently stopped “clicking.” It still tracks and recognises clicks/taps, but the entire haptic feedback is gone. I’ve tried various software remedies that I found online (deleting plists, resetting PRAM, etc.) but no luck, even on another device. Seems to be a hardware problem, presumably inside the Taptic Engine.

I see it is not impossible to open up the Magic Trackpad 2 and to get at the Taptic Engine. Does anybody know if I can get a replacement part for it anywhere?

Magic Trackpad 2: How is the clicking sound produced from Magic Trackpad 2?

When you connect a Magic Trackpad 2 to MacBook, There is an option in trackpad settings in MacBook that allows for silent click. The intensity of click is still the same, but it is silent. Just blown away by how Apple does this. Has anyone taken apart a Magic Trackpad 2 and seen how this works?
