Magic Keyboard: Certain keystrokes producing multiple characters

My keyboard has started malfunctioning where every time I press certain keys, I get two characters instead of the single character it ought to be. Here are the character sets being affected

56

-/

ty

=[

gh

bn

For example, when I press '5', it produces '56', and the same when I press '6'. It too produces '56'. Same for the whole list above.

Note too the apparent pattern down the keyboard with the '56', 'ty', 'gh', and 'bn' combos.

I've checked battery level. It's nearly full charge. I've tried using while plugged in and charging. I've tried gently lifting affected keys and blowing out any possible dust, particles, etc. None of this has helped.

Magic Keyboard: Random keys dead on L Side - Tried Hardware Test and Keyboard Viewer.

Tried all Apple suggestions. Nothing showing as wrong; however, several keys on left side of the magic keyboard randomly stopped working (even on 100% charge). Started with Volumeup, then migrated to Arrow keys, Enter key and others. Keyboard is new, has been in storage and never had any problems, drops or spills. Any thoughts on how I might fix this? Or can I reinstall a keyboard driver (like on a PC) to test? Thanks for your answers.

Magic Keyboard: Is wired connection to PC possible?

Hello,

I read in some Magic Keyboard tests that it does not actually need Bluetooth to work. If you just plug the lighting/USB cable to your Mac and turn off Bluetooth, it works.

I was wondering if the same was possible with a PC not equipped with Bluetooth, i.e. is the Magic Keyboard working when plugged with the cable into a PC.

Thanks in advance !

Magic Keyboard: Magic keyboard UP key broken

Hi, I have this keyboard. The UP key stopped working. I took of the keycap and the switch and also the small rubber dome. It's still not working. I can see some discoloration under it, like if it was burned.

Do you know what could it be? No matter what I do with a screwdriver it doesn't work. The DOWN key works when I slightly press it.

Is there any chance of fixing it, or I better keep it as a keycap donor for identical keyboards?

Magic Keyboard: What Bluetooth versions are the 2021 Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad

Apple updated and released new Magic accessories for the M1 iMacs, and those have recently become available to purchase as sandalone products.

But what Bluetooth version are these devices?

I know the older Trackpad 2 is Bluetooth 3.0., so I’m assuming the new ones are at least Bluetooth 4.0.

I can’t find any source explaining this and it doesn’t seem ifixit went over this in their M1 iMac teardown. Maybe they assumed we know it’s all Bluetooth 5.0?

It would make sense for it to be 5.0, since the M1 iMac is 5.0.

Does anyone know or know how to figure this out? Does the iMac show the Bluetooth version of connected devices somewhere in its settings?

Magic Keyboard: Replacing Lightning Port - How/Where to Buy

Hello!

I reached out to iFixIt support for replacing the lightning port on my Magic Keyboard with numeric keypad (A1843). I have a broken gold pin on it so it won’t charge when plugged in. IFixit says they don’t sell replacement ports and I’ve had a hard time sourcing it on Amazon, EBay, etc.

Has anyone been able to replace the port on these and found where they can be bought? IFixIt has a tear down that looks helpful in getting to the port, but comments from users suggest it may be incomplete and have broken their keyboards in the process. Magic Keyboard Teardown

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! I would hate to throw it out for a broken port!

Magic Keyboard: Machining custom keycaps for that stunning silver/black color

I love the portability of the normal size Magic Keyboard, but I also love the silver/black color.
Apple broke my hope, that they would ever sell a silver/black normal size, when they introduced the silver/black color for the Magic Keyboard, but only for the one with the numpad.
Companies like colorware offer painting your devices but they also paint the aluminium.
So in my desperation I thought of turning my boring silver Magic Keyboard (3 without Touch ID) into a stunning one of a kind silver/black one.

I have a 3D printer and a CNC.
Is it possible to make my own keycaps?

How could I get CAD data for the keycaps and testfit them, preferably without tearing my Magic Keyboard apart?

I know it is an odd question but maybe somebody knows.

Magic Keyboard: Can I replace the slippery Magic KeyB keys with replacement MBP keys?

I love the feel of the MBP keys. I’ve bought three Magic keyboards over the last few years, but only one had the same feel (It broke and I recycled it, stupidly).
