Macintosh Color Classic: My Macintosh Color Classic turns on by just switching the power button

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone of you had a similar issue as mine. Please let me explain what happened to my system (FYI I was following Branchus Creations’ video in Youtube as a reference).

I have a Macintosh Color Classic which was totally dead when I obtained it thus it has been recapped (At this point, all capacitors on the logic board were replaced including some of the core capacitors of the analog board which were located at the center).

It was then working for a while but suddenly the screen blacked out. So I have then replaced the 330uF/400V capacitor on the analog board and again, it was working fine for a while.

Unfortunately, it blacked out again so I have recapped every single capacitor on the analog board but so far I was never able to resolve the black screen issue.

It was then when the Color Classic started to behave strangely. As you know, the Color Classic is supposed to start when you press on the start key on a Macintosh keyboard but in my case it will power up right after I have turned on the power switch on the rear side. Beside of this behavior, I am also hearing a continuous ‘clicking‘ sound all the way (and there is no screen).

I hear the hard drive spinning but don’t think it is booting the OS.

If someone please could share some light on this matter I would be really grateful.

Kind regards

Old PC guy

Macintosh Color Classic: dark screen, but can hear it whirring and working

Hi!

I bought my husband a Macintosh Color Classic with tube and analog board, but no logic board. He bought an “working” LC 575 Mystic Mac board off eBay. He installed it and turned it on, with the screen flashing an error sign, then it went dark. You can hear it booting up, it whirls and beeps, but no screen. He bought an original “working” recapped color classic logic board, but no luck. Lots of info on recapping, etc, but no symptoms like his. Do you know what problem this might be or whom we could ask? Or where to send it for repair? Thanks

Macintosh Color Classic: I see some empty slot on the logic board. What's it for and ..

I see some empty slot on the logic board. What's it for and can I stil find one somewhere?

The mac is working fine. The old caps are still in place but I believe is has not had many working hours. So I am not planning to replace them right away.

I am momentarely blasting the cover with thickened waterperoxide and UV licht. It is getting it's original coulor back. If someone wants to know how that goes just ask me.

I ordered two memory slots and a video upgrade card and a battery for 56 euro total but I have to pay 50 for postage too. So is any body has tips they want to share, I am all ears.

Macintosh Color Classic: Why won't my computer boot?

I have a late 1991 Macintosh Classic, running System 7.0.1. I bought it on eBay in January. Starting since around May, it's been having problems turning on. When it doesn't work, it shows a striped pattern and flickers the Sad Mac. When it does work, it boots System 7 perfectly as if nothing ever happened. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. It came with a printer and cost a hundred bucks, so I don't want a Style Writer or my hundred bucks to go to waste!
