Mac mini (PowerPC): Buy or not to buy: that is the question?

I have Mac running Leopoard 10.5.8, but I have no airport extreme card or bluetooth. It was an option at the original purchase. I just recently purchased a airport extreme card for it, only to find out it had been stripped of the mezzanine card and the airport antenna! Now a simple upgrade becomes twice as expensive.

My question is as follows: I have a airport extreme Base station. Is there any way I can get around spending the extra cash to install the airport extreme card?

Can I sync the base station to the mac mini from ethernet port? It has no option for airport software located in the system/network controls.

Can I download the airport software without the airport extreme card installed or does it not to have that to download the software?

Mac mini (PowerPC): Can not Install OSX on upgraded MacMini Hard Drive

I just upgraded my MacMini from the original hard drive (40G Ultra ATA) to a 320G Western Digital Scorpio Blue Hard Drive. I used the original install disks and partitioned the disk once into one volume and tried to install the original OS X version: 10.3.7. The installer would not allow installation onto the drive. I tried 2 partition system, one 40G partition and 280G partition and no luck. Any idea what is wrong here. I beginning to suspect the installer is snooping for a 'standard' configuration somehow.

Mac mini (PowerPC): Is it worth trying to clean corroded mainboard?

Hello guys

i have recently bought this machine off ebay, from a seller stating he couldnt test the machine, so sold as faulty no returns.

machine clearly shows signs of spillage. bottom of the motherboard is corroded at two corners, a lot of contacts almost invisible under the layer of rust...

now, knowing, that this is probably beyond repair, what would you recomend me to try, to get rid of rust? alcohol? isopropyl? "whatever-you-call-it-conntact-cleaner"?

i dont even know, if anything else is working, i have basically gutted machine i need to get working... i probably could salvage superdrive, anything else is missing. no hdd, no wificard, no bluetooth module...

i know, motherboards are quite resistant to spillage (i know, stupid idea), having two, which survived spillage, could this one be salvaged as well?

thanks for ideas, sugestions or offers...:D:D:D

Mac Mini (PowerPC): Mac Mini won't boot anymore

What do I do if the internal drive won't boot, but on booting the utility CD and going to Disk Utility, I can see the drive, but the "Verify Disk Permissions" and "Repair Disk Permissions" buttons are grayed out? The "Verify Disk" and "Repair Disk" buttons are useable, but they both simply run through their checks and come up clean?

Update

This is a Mac Mini, Model A1103, all original equipment. 80GB original disk drive. This was all working fine as of about a week ago. Machine belongs to a friend, and neither of us know exactly what happened to it exactly.

Disk Utility originally only showed me the image for the Apple Install CD I booted to get over to Disk Utility. I forget now what all the steps were that I took, but now I can see the hard drive in Disk Utility. However, when I attempt to repair it or perform any sort of operation that attempts IO over the entire disk drive, it will eventually hang. It is interruptable, but there is a point beyond which none of the tools I have tried will go.

I have both Disk Warrior and Tech Tools 4, and nothing gets beyond a certain point.

It is probably no longer relevant as to how to recover boot sectors (or whatever a Mac OS X disk needs to perform an initial boot). I am guessing the drive is fully fried and needs replacing.

Update

BTW, I did try putting the machine in target mode for the internal drive. Same sad results... could not perform adequate repairs on the drive no matter what I tried. KR

Mac mini (PowerPC): Why is my Mac Mini turning off automatically?

For some reason, my Mac Mini G4 (1.42) keeps turning off automatically. I've tried to use different power supplies (85w and 110w), applying new thermal paste, booting into a 10.5 install disk, and none of that worked. It would turn on very briefly (30 seconds to a minute or so), then turn off. If it matters, the hard drive was dead inside the computer. However, I've tried turning on the computer w/o a hard drive and still got the same result. Please help and thank you for your time.
