Mac mini (PowerPC): Worth replacing the Graphics thermal pad? And is it 0.5mm?

Hi folks, my G4 is now 21 years old.

I recently cleaned it all out, repasted the CPU and added an SSD. Just worried about the old thermal pad for graphics.

Would be worth replacing it with a Gelid thermal pad? It looks really thin, would a 0.5mm fit?

I still use it for retro gaming, snd my iPod classic, and just want to stay alive for longer.

Mac mini (PowerPC): Why is my Mac Mini turning off automatically?

For some reason, my Mac Mini G4 (1.42) keeps turning off automatically. I've tried to use different power supplies (85w and 110w), applying new thermal paste, booting into a 10.5 install disk, and none of that worked. It would turn on very briefly (30 seconds to a minute or so), then turn off. If it matters, the hard drive was dead inside the computer. However, I've tried turning on the computer w/o a hard drive and still got the same result. Please help and thank you for your time.

Mac mini (PowerPC): Does anyone have a firmware dump of this Mac? I’d like to reflash it.

Hello. I have an early 2005 Mac mini and in spite of looking around everywhere I have yet to see a firmware dump of this model. Does 10.5 update the firmware? My revision is 4.8.9f and I’d be interested in getting a program or OS X to reflash it so it doesn’t loose the copy after age and electron migration have taken their toll. It works great right now and I hope to keep it that way.

Mac mini (PowerPC): Where to source the wireless interface boards for a G4 Mini?

I have a Mac Mini G4 that I bought from eBay for cheap, which is running the MorphOS operating system (the main reason why I got it). Unfortunately, it's a model without a wireless interface card included, so I have no wifi capability on it. I've tried searching eBay for the right part, but all results keep coming back with the AirPort Extreme card itself, which isn't what I need, or results for later Intel Mac Minis.

Does anyone know where I can get the right wireless interface board for the G4 Mini models? I'd like to be able to have some kind of connectivity for my Mac Mini; it's in a room away from my router and I can't be running cables too much at all.

Mac mini (PowerPC): Why can't I boot nor eject

My mates has very old mac mini 2006 with few problems: after replacing hard drive with SSD, i can no longer boot (the ? and key grey, is expected as no OS to boot from) in other cases when just left alone

on startup i get following when pressing 'C

It may be keyboard ?? but eject key on keyboard can't even get dvd out.. it look like bar is in the way (as a test he inserted card in slot to see it it was possible for clearance to eject, but was blocked, but i assumed when key (or left mouse button pressed) should move the bar and disc ejects right?

Install disc (grey one) is in, so that's good at least.

This 'purple screen' with two icons would be some issue i never seen before.

In both cases, F12 doesn't work, eject key doesn't work (keyboard issue??) no caps lock lock light up neither, just to confirm.

and left mouse button doesn't work ...(confirmed mouse works though as you can click these icons (which doesn't appear to do anything)

Initially when the screen above appears the pointer is more of a clock counting down, as if its waiting period,.... the screen capture was done after this point, when you see pointer.

I'm not familiar with Mac mini 2006 that old, so i'm at a loss, but can only guide him based on emergency startup keys etc of current

He put the phone up to the mac, and sounded like disc was spinning which is good sign anyway, so something else has got problems.

Update (06/11/2022)

the drive was defective, that's why it was replaced. but what is the reason for the above screenshot?

Mac mini (PowerPC): Is it worth trying to clean corroded mainboard?

Hello guys

i have recently bought this machine off ebay, from a seller stating he couldnt test the machine, so sold as faulty no returns.

machine clearly shows signs of spillage. bottom of the motherboard is corroded at two corners, a lot of contacts almost invisible under the layer of rust...

now, knowing, that this is probably beyond repair, what would you recomend me to try, to get rid of rust? alcohol? isopropyl? "whatever-you-call-it-conntact-cleaner"?

i dont even know, if anything else is working, i have basically gutted machine i need to get working... i probably could salvage superdrive, anything else is missing. no hdd, no wificard, no bluetooth module...

i know, motherboards are quite resistant to spillage (i know, stupid idea), having two, which survived spillage, could this one be salvaged as well?

thanks for ideas, sugestions or offers...:D:D:D
