Mac Pro Late 2013: Seal on inside of lid

I noticed that there is a type of seal running around the inside perimeter of the casing. So when the outer casing slides down onto the main unit, I assume this seal is either to create a cushion for the casing to sit on or its to seal one area of the main unit from another area. Anyway, last time I removed the outer casing, some of this seal was hanging off the casing and was quite brittle and several sections of it came off. Can this be replaced?

Hello everyone,
This may be a strange question -
does anyone know what the connection for a 4-pin PWM cable for this fan looks like?
I would like to use it in my project, and it must be connected to a standard USB PWM controller.

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

Regards,

Tom

I rushed to find a solution for the overheating MP6.1. I have the impression that OCLP, in combination with newer versions of OSX, which are more demanding in terms of system resources (RAM, CPU, etc.), cause older computers to work harder. I started looking for a solution and, using 3D and an additional original fan from the MP6.1, I achieved quite satisfactory results without the noise of an F-35 taking off. To improve airflow, I removed the original bottom cover, and the second fan is powered by a cheap 4-pin PWM controller. I soldered the cables into the fan's test pins and added a PVC mesh filter between the two original MP 6.1 fan diffusers.. At the moment, such a fan can be bought in the UK for £19, which is quite reasonable. If necessary, I also run TG pro on low settings so as not to drown out my thoughts :) I think that the whole thing doesn't look particularly awful and is quite compact compared to other designs 🤔

Mac Pro Late 2013: PFM006 & PPN001 error in diagnostics

I have an MacPro6,1, the 2013 year model which has the kernel_task going to 900% and fans at full speed. I’ve run the diagnostics tool and it came up with the following two errors:

• PFM006 - There may be an issue with the System Management Controller (SMC)

• PPM001 - There may be an issue with the power management system

The mac powers on fine, but is extremely slow. The SSD is cleared so no software is installed, running from Big Sur from an USB is also really slow.

I’ve opened up the machine and there was a lot of dust. Cleaned out a lot and have put it back together. No change. The water indicators I’ve seen on the boards are not red, hence there is no liquid damage from what I can see. Nor can I see anything weird on the open sides of the boards.

I’ve also done the SMC reset, didn’t help either.

I got the 6 core D500 model with 16gb ram. It also has some HDMI issues from time to time, having the screen flicker (like it’s not getting a propper connection); however using thunderbolt > HDMI works fine.

Does anybody know what I can do to resolve this issue? Do I need to replace the backpanel/PSU, or is there another issue which I can look at?

Mac Pro Late 2013: Mac Pro 6,1 is constantly restarting

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a used 2013 Mac Pro as I've always wanted one, but have since run into some issues. I'm running on the latest version of Monterey, have the 12-Core CPU (original), and it's been upgraded to a 512GB NVME with adapter, along with 64GB of Crucial RAM.

During light to normal use (I'm not what you'd describe as a "Pro" user - the heaviest task i'll do in any given day is editing RAW images in Lightroom) - The computer is just constantly restarting and rebooting to a message saying that it restarted due to an error (shared at the bottom of my post)

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

SMC reset

PRAM reset

Erased and clean-installed macOS Monterey

Swapped in an original Apple SSD from a Macbook Pro 2015

Brought it to an Apple Store (in Paris), where a RAM-related issue was suspected but no further diagnostic given.

Tried multiple RAM combinations in different slots

Installed new RAM from OWC

Ran extended memory tests overnight (no issues reported)

Used EtreCheck (no major flags)

Ran CPU stress tests (Endurance, Cinebench, Heaven, etc. – all completed without crashing)

Reapplied thermal paste and thoroughly cleaned the machine internally.....

Here is the error report - I've ordered a new CPU and will install it once it arrives as my research as shown that this is the culprit but has anyone else had this same situation and fixed it?

Thank you!!!

Mac Pro Late 2013: Mac Pro wont power on, red LED?

Update:

First, sorry for the hiatus. I've been out of the business for a while. But I'm back!

Apple couldn't tell me anything. They offered me to pay a flat $500 fee, and they would replace anything that needed to be replaced untill it worked…

I ended up just selling it for parts…

So I have a Apple Mac Pro "Quad Core" 3.7 (Late 2013) that wont power on.

I do not know the history of the machine.

I plugged it in and got nothing, no beeps. no fan spinning, no response.

I do all the normal procedures, swapped ram, tried different SSD, reset SMC, tried different power cable and outlet. None of that worked.

I took the case off and found a bright red LED shinning.

So I started searching the internet, thinking that there MUST be some information about this red LED.... NOTHING!!!

So I proceeded to take the whole thing apart, took it down to bare bones to make sure everything was connected properly and to see if I could find any corrosion from any liquid damage or such.

While I was at it I re applied thermal paste on both the CPU and GPU.

Nothing appeared to be out of place, no damage to the board, all connections were secure.

I put it back together, powered it on, and still nothing, just the red LED...

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS THING!?

Please, if you have any idea what could be wrong, any suggestions, or any explanation about this red LED I would LOVE to hear it.

I'm totally baffled by this one...

Thanks in advanced,

Taylor

Mac Pro Late 2013: Cleaning the thermal core sink, or fan, from dust?

My Mac Pro runs 24/7 and gathers a lot of dust, looking at how clean my desk is around it's base, compared to the rest of the surrounding desk. How would I perform a proper cleaning of the internal heat sink (core), and the fan? Just want to see if someone has performed this, or has any ideas/suggestions.

Thanks!

Mac Pro Late 2013: Mac Pro 2013 is not powering on (lights On , Fan Off , No Chime )

Hi, to make this short as possible

Note I also posted is also on another site and I’m gonna include everything with yesterday’s updates at the end.

I replaced the GPU on my Mac Pro 2013 and while doing that I replaced the thermal paste for the CPU too now the computer is not powering on ( No POST ) I have the lights on except the power button light is off .. first I thought it's something with the new refurbished GPU but it's not because I tested it with another working GPU.

After searching the net people are saying it might be :

The battery inside needs a replacement ( I did a replacement with no luck. )

The power supply is not working ( I can see the red light after hocking up the power cable ( Without the logic board installed if the logic board is connected to the riser the red lights in the logic board and the PSU will go off as normal behavior ) I also get the green light when I press the little check button on the I/O board from the inside ( more details about this at the end ) then I used the multimeter to measure the power that it's going to the CPU riser and it's giving me 1V .. I don't know if it's the right number.

The logic board got damaged? but why? everything is fine also it's red light is on when it's connected to the PSU only .. it's not my first time disassembling the Trash Can and I did it so many times and I even looked at the sensitive data cables that connect the logic board to everything I can't see any broken pins.

Someone said press shift on the keyboard while turning on the device but I’m using a USB keyboard and there is no power on the USB ports ! the screen wakes up though pressing the power button (connected via thunderbolt )

Finally, I always take precautions like wearing an anti-static bracelet and not using any screwdrivers with magnets also changed the power cable connected it directly to the wall

Please help .. Thanks

TL,DR : I/O lights On except the power button No Chime No Fan Just the Lights for 15 sec then they go off .. PSU seems fine ( I might be wrong ) .. I put the older GPU back, replaced the battery with no luck.

UPDATE #1 :

I followed this guide ++https://logi.wiki/index.php/Mac_Pro_6,1_...

I got #2 & #5 on while the computer is off .. will try to do power on without the lid I just need a magnet that I don't think that I actually have at the moment

UPDATE #2: I managed to find a magnet and activate the computer power without the cover being on ( if you wanna do it too just stick the magnet next to the power button outside the seam. )

Now thankfully I got all the Diagnostic LEDs on Green Light Except the first one which means everything is working !!!!! then why it's not POSTING !!!!?????

Also, does anyone knows how to check the CPU Riser LEDs without dismantling the whole thing and make everything dangling with a magnet stuck to the I/O it’s seems a little bit dangerous to do that?

UPDATE 3 : I just noticed that Error LEDs ( two RED ) on the logic board are on ! ... Still don't know what that supposed to mean.

Please help

Thank you

Mac Pro Late 2013: Magnetic Lid/Cover/Case Sensor Positioning

Hey Everyone,

I have a project to create a clear case for my old 2013 Mac Pro, does anyone know where the magnetic lid sensor is located and where the magnet is located on the aluminium cylinder? (I am assuming it uses a magnetic lid sensor like MacBooks)

I need it in order to make sure the bloody thing runs with the new case I plan to build.

Magnet paper might work but I am not sure

Cheers

Mac Pro Late 2013: Mac Pro 2013 Not Booting with New SSD and Adapter

Hi,

I replaced the original drive of a Mac Pro Late 2013 - A1481 (https://support.apple.com/en-us/112025) with a Crucial P3 (https://www.amazon.it/Crucial-Plus-500GB...) and a compatible adapter (https://www.amazon.it/OLVINS-Adattatore-...).

Unfortunately, with the new drive, the computer turns on with the fan at maximum speed and doesn't send any signal to the monitor. If I remove the drive, the boot proceeds normally (Apple logo + missing OS image).

When I try to use a bootable USB with Big Sur, the USB seems to be read, but the monitor still shows no signal.

I’m not sure if this is an issue with the compatibility of the new components (both are supposed to be compatible) or related to the Mac's firmware. I read that the Mac firmware needs to be updated first. I know Big Sur was installed on this Mac before, but then it was reformatted and Linux was installed, after which the original drive failed.

Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot further or should I just give up considering that I no longer have the original SSD working ?

Hello everyone¡ I have a Mac Pro Late 2013 6.1 that screen goes black after exactly 60 seconds. Does not matter if you're on Windows, Mac OS or stay on Boot picker. It takes exactly 60 seconds for the display to go black (But it's still running since you can click on a key and will sound or youtube keeps playing audio) so it doesn't go to sleep just black display, but if I unplug and plug HDMI again it works for another 60 seconds.

I did reset PRAM and NVRAM as SMC as well, I took it completely apart, cleaned all dust and replaced thermal paste with no changes.

Also tried to disconnect one of the GPU's (The one without hard drive slot) and Boot with just one, and did the same but lagged.

Tried to Reflow the main GPU (With a professional automatic rework station) and still no changes.

Also replaced the RAM memory and placed new ones in different slots with no changes either.

Also performed a diagnostics and All seemed good.

Any ideas? ( I think that maybe VideoRam bank on the GPU might be defective and when the moment of reaching that bank comes it goes black) since the GPU works for 60 secs with no issues... THANKS FOR YOUR HELP

Mac Pro Late 2013: Please help to identifying the SMD components on 2013 Mac Pro A1481

Hi all,

I believes by an accident, I have ripped out the sensors from the logic board and now the fan run at full speed at all time. Searching the internet, I’ve found the reason why as an SMD component are missing from the board. Below is the SMD IC that is missing. Could someone help me to identify the IC so I can find a way to solder it back to the board? I use TG Pro to check on the sensors and found the Ambient 1 & Ambient Air Sensor are missing. Much appreciate if anyone can help to give me a hint.
