Mac Pro 2019: How to remove handles!

Hey iFixit!

I thought I read somewhere that you can remove the handles, similar to removing the feet. I purchased your 64-bit tool set based on the teardown you did, but don’t have the 90o angle piece… and I can’t seem to use the tool correctly.

Did I read that incorrectly?

Am I missing something that’s super obvious and I wasn’t paying attention?

It would be very helpful to be able to take the handles off.

Mac Pro 2019: Is it possible to replace the CPU socket on this board?

Hello! I have a late 2019 Mac Pro (like in the image above). It's an Intel Mac Pro that uses the Xeon Cascade Lake Series chipset (the W series).

Is it possible to replace the CPU socket on this board? If so, how difficult is it? If not, how expensive is it to just swap out the whole mobo? And is that difficult as well? Or is it better to just get it serviced?

Mac Pro 2019: Blower Exhaust Fan Inoperable

My Mac Pro 2019 exhaust blower fan does not operate anymore.. It started as noticing that the front system fans (the 3 fan stack) were running more often than usual. In Macs Fan Control, the RPM then started reading 0 RPM on the Exhaust fan and I cannot control the speed through Macs Fan Control. Then recently (after the service I will mention), the blower fan makes some bad grinding noises on boot, only to turn off and stay off.

I had this machine in Apple Green Hills Nashville for service, where they said they replaced the blower assembly with a new one, but the fan still did not spin. They wanted to do more work on it, but it would be $1300 and more time, which I declined.

I'm posting this simply because I have yet to see anyone with this same issue on the internet. I have ordered a used blower assembly from eBay to see if I can get a different result than my local Apple techs.

I'm currently running Monterey 12.7.5 and will probably be upgrading the computer if replacing the assembly does not fix the issue. I'm hoping a firmware update might help me.

I will update this thread as I try and resolve this issue.

I need to add TB2 or TB3 ports. Anyone have success with an add-on card?

PS: Should iFixit split the MacPro forum into 3 separate ones for the cheese grater, trash can and the new one?

I have the 12-core with basic graphics - so only the Apple I/O 2 port card and the 2 ports on top - which I want to use to run to hubs. I need at least two more TB ports for a bunch of daisy-chained SSD enclosures which now are spread across the 4 ports on my trash can Mac. I am running a single 38” 4K monitor.
