Mac Pro Late 2013: Seal on inside of lid

I noticed that there is a type of seal running around the inside perimeter of the casing. So when the outer casing slides down onto the main unit, I assume this seal is either to create a cushion for the casing to sit on or its to seal one area of the main unit from another area. Anyway, last time I removed the outer casing, some of this seal was hanging off the casing and was quite brittle and several sections of it came off. Can this be replaced?

Mac Pro: Mac pro 3.1 no chime all fans run

Hi I have just recently acquired a mac pro 3.1 Model A1186 EMC2180 that wont start.

I have measured all voltages from the PSU which all appear to be fine.

Diag lights always show STBY and when the white light on front lights up will briefly flash GPU and then shows EFI.

I have removed both memory board, all hard drives and DVD drive, Graphics card and then removed all fans which did run, there also was a very small BT card which was removed Front panel USB disconnected as well as the FireWire port.

I have noticed when plugging in a K/B you can not press get caps lock or num lock lights to work however there is power on the ports confirmed by charging devices but wont charge an iphone.

When first plugging in to 230v the OT_A and OT_B quickly flash which is normal.

Any thoughts on what to do next

Mac Pro Late 2013: Please help to identifying the SMD components on 2013 Mac Pro A1481

Hi all,

I believes by an accident, I have ripped out the sensors from the logic board and now the fan run at full speed at all time. Searching the internet, I’ve found the reason why as an SMD component are missing from the board. Below is the SMD IC that is missing. Could someone help me to identify the IC so I can find a way to solder it back to the board? I use TG Pro to check on the sensors and found the Ambient 1 & Ambient Air Sensor are missing. Much appreciate if anyone can help to give me a hint.

Mac Pro First Generation: Ambient Board compatibility in Mac Pros

A friend has an early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 and the fans occasionally spin up to 100% and it locks up. I am trying to find out what is wrong with it. I reset the PRAM and afterward I could not repeat the fan issue. All diagnostic lights on the logic board look good. I ran the Apple Hardware Test on it and it passed the short test, but on the long test it detected the error 4SNS/1/40000000: TH0P-128.000

That code indicates a hard disk temperature sensor failure in hard drive bay 1. This Ambient Board is Apple # 922-8524, mfr # 820-2203-A (which I can also see embossed on the part). I purchased a replacement on eBay, but the seller sent me Apple part # 922-7732, mfr # 820-1974-A, which is for the 2006/2007 Mac Pro. The seller tells me it's the same part, but I don't want to put in an incompatible part. Does anyone know if these Ambient Boards (2006/2007 and 2008) are interchangeable?

Mac Pro First Generation: MacPro 3.1 doesn't start, but starts with a "Hack".

Yesterday I wanted to book up the old MacPro 3.1 (Early 2008) The last time it ran was about a month ago. It only serves as a video watching system by now.

The Problem:

Nevertheless, it didn't start. No main fans moving. The Graphics card fan moved. After about 0.5-1.5 seconds it turned off. I tried several times always the same.

I had only one problem with it during a cleanup once in the past, where it didn't start.I think it was a loose graphics card at the time, so I opened and cleaned him.Wasn't that dirty to be honest.

Still not working, a few searches and the usual suspect is the Power Supply Unit (PSU). I removed it and a visual inspection suggests it's fine. Capacitors and Coils look fine. Cleaned it, put it back together still nothing.

While reading about trouble shooting, I noticed a red blinking light. CPU A OT and CPU B OT.I tried the button next to it and the SYS_RES button as well. At some point I did hear the startup sound, so I plugged the monitor back in and still the same behaviour as above.

The "Hack":

However, after several trials I figured out I can press the power on button several times and hold it. After 3-4 times, the two LEDs CPU A OT and CPU B OT will light up permanently. Once that happens the next time the MacPro starts fully functional, but with the fans on full blast. I didn't find this behaviour documented in the manual, but might have missed it.

Mac Pro Service Manual

I downloaded the hardware diagnostic tool (Link) and put it into

/System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics and ran it.

No warnings. The extended test ended as well with "No trouble found" It took 1.5h, so I think the PSU is fine. I'm now running the test again with full RAM installed, out of desperation.

Questions:

I don't know how to proceed now.I suspect it's some kind of error in the thermal sensors. They're plugged in correctly as far as I can tell. I didn't remove the CPU coolers as I don't have thermal paste. Is there a way to confirm one of the sensors are at fault. Also note they only are lid up after the "Hack", so maybe this is just a special mode?

When I start up my Mac Pro, I can’t access the Dock, only my right click works on my mouse and I can’t click on any files. But I can access the files via right click and I can get the Dock to appear from the hide dock setting if I sleep the machine and then wake it. But even after that the problems persist with mouse and the apps on the dock will magnify but I can’t launch them unless I right click. Rigs been working fine for years, until two days ago. I cleared the NVRAM and rest the physical ram, problem’s still there…. Any thoughts?
