Mac Pro Late 2013: Seal on inside of lid

I noticed that there is a type of seal running around the inside perimeter of the casing. So when the outer casing slides down onto the main unit, I assume this seal is either to create a cushion for the casing to sit on or its to seal one area of the main unit from another area. Anyway, last time I removed the outer casing, some of this seal was hanging off the casing and was quite brittle and several sections of it came off. Can this be replaced?

I rushed to find a solution for the overheating MP6.1. I have the impression that OCLP, in combination with newer versions of OSX, which are more demanding in terms of system resources (RAM, CPU, etc.), cause older computers to work harder. I started looking for a solution and, using 3D and an additional original fan from the MP6.1, I achieved quite satisfactory results without the noise of an F-35 taking off. To improve airflow, I removed the original bottom cover, and the second fan is powered by a cheap 4-pin PWM controller. I soldered the cables into the fan's test pins and added a PVC mesh filter between the two original MP 6.1 fan diffusers.. At the moment, such a fan can be bought in the UK for £19, which is quite reasonable. If necessary, I also run TG pro on low settings so as not to drown out my thoughts :) I think that the whole thing doesn't look particularly awful and is quite compact compared to other designs 🤔

Mac Pro 2009-2012: PCI-e power cable for graphics card advice

Dear Community,

I managed to buy a 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 that was flashed to 5,1. It has a 6-core single CPU Xeon X5690. It will be a nice project computer for multiple use.

I was looking at Apple's archived topic regards which graphics card to use enabling metal support on Mojave.

I found a Sapphire 7590, a Quadro K5000, and an RX 580 too. For the start I only want a graphics card in the machine so I can boot it and began use it for basics.

I also found it hard to buy the pcie power cable. I know that it needs an 8 pin to double 6 pin cable as there are two 6 pin connectors on the mobo and the 8 pin that would go into the card.

My question would be towards the community is what place or website would you recommend to order the cable from?

Thank you for all your help and kindness!

Two Red LEDS light on the Ram Riser.

Going to try takng the machine down, giving it a good clean, and reseating the PCIe cards ans RAM and see if that helps

Mac Pro Late 2013: PFM006 & PPN001 error in diagnostics

I have an MacPro6,1, the 2013 year model which has the kernel_task going to 900% and fans at full speed. I’ve run the diagnostics tool and it came up with the following two errors:

• PFM006 - There may be an issue with the System Management Controller (SMC)

• PPM001 - There may be an issue with the power management system

The mac powers on fine, but is extremely slow. The SSD is cleared so no software is installed, running from Big Sur from an USB is also really slow.

I’ve opened up the machine and there was a lot of dust. Cleaned out a lot and have put it back together. No change. The water indicators I’ve seen on the boards are not red, hence there is no liquid damage from what I can see. Nor can I see anything weird on the open sides of the boards.

I’ve also done the SMC reset, didn’t help either.

I got the 6 core D500 model with 16gb ram. It also has some HDMI issues from time to time, having the screen flicker (like it’s not getting a propper connection); however using thunderbolt > HDMI works fine.

Does anybody know what I can do to resolve this issue? Do I need to replace the backpanel/PSU, or is there another issue which I can look at?

Mac Pro Late 2013: Mac Pro 6,1 is constantly restarting

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a used 2013 Mac Pro as I've always wanted one, but have since run into some issues. I'm running on the latest version of Monterey, have the 12-Core CPU (original), and it's been upgraded to a 512GB NVME with adapter, along with 64GB of Crucial RAM.

During light to normal use (I'm not what you'd describe as a "Pro" user - the heaviest task i'll do in any given day is editing RAW images in Lightroom) - The computer is just constantly restarting and rebooting to a message saying that it restarted due to an error (shared at the bottom of my post)

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

SMC reset

PRAM reset

Erased and clean-installed macOS Monterey

Swapped in an original Apple SSD from a Macbook Pro 2015

Brought it to an Apple Store (in Paris), where a RAM-related issue was suspected but no further diagnostic given.

Tried multiple RAM combinations in different slots

Installed new RAM from OWC

Ran extended memory tests overnight (no issues reported)

Used EtreCheck (no major flags)

Ran CPU stress tests (Endurance, Cinebench, Heaven, etc. – all completed without crashing)

Reapplied thermal paste and thoroughly cleaned the machine internally.....

Here is the error report - I've ordered a new CPU and will install it once it arrives as my research as shown that this is the culprit but has anyone else had this same situation and fixed it?

Mac Pro First Generation: Is there a way to fix a faulty Mac Pro (early 2008)PSU?

I've seen guides for replacing it, but it's an expensive PSU specially if you're not in the US (my case). I've read that most PSU problems are a capacitor or something silly that could be easily replaced without having to spend hundreds of dollars.

Is it possible to repair the PSU I already have? Any ideas?

Update

Thanks everybody for your replies. I do not understand much of PSU, and was wondering if it was a matter of simply replacing specific parts, like the ones that are usually faulty, I thought that kind of knowledge would be good to have documented out there.

But given the fact that it might be extremely dangerous, or excessively complicated, I now understand the reason the information is unavailable, and conform to the fact that I will have to replace it via Apple.

On a tangent matter, the problem seems to me, that this sort of information is really not available even to certain technicians. I took the computer to an Apple Authorized Center and they told to replace the logic board. I still have the same problem and it really seems to be the PSU, but I can't pinpoint the diagnostic.

Mac Pro Late 2013: Mac Pro wont power on, red LED?

Update:

First, sorry for the hiatus. I've been out of the business for a while. But I'm back!

Apple couldn't tell me anything. They offered me to pay a flat $500 fee, and they would replace anything that needed to be replaced untill it worked…

I ended up just selling it for parts…

So I have a Apple Mac Pro "Quad Core" 3.7 (Late 2013) that wont power on.

I do not know the history of the machine.

I plugged it in and got nothing, no beeps. no fan spinning, no response.

I do all the normal procedures, swapped ram, tried different SSD, reset SMC, tried different power cable and outlet. None of that worked.

I took the case off and found a bright red LED shinning.

So I started searching the internet, thinking that there MUST be some information about this red LED.... NOTHING!!!

So I proceeded to take the whole thing apart, took it down to bare bones to make sure everything was connected properly and to see if I could find any corrosion from any liquid damage or such.

While I was at it I re applied thermal paste on both the CPU and GPU.

Nothing appeared to be out of place, no damage to the board, all connections were secure.

I put it back together, powered it on, and still nothing, just the red LED...

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS THING!?

Please, if you have any idea what could be wrong, any suggestions, or any explanation about this red LED I would LOVE to hear it.

I'm totally baffled by this one...

Thanks in advanced,

Taylor
