Mac Mini Model A1176: Can I convert the power supply to USB-C?

Hello everyone. Since I lost the power supply to this old beast, I started wondering if I could switch the proprietary connector to USB-C?

From what I searched, USB-C doesn't handle the max power output of the original, which is aproximatly 19V/6A, and I also can't find any diagram or pin layout of the connector, which is a shame. Even if it is slightly underpowered, can it run normally?

Mac Mini Model A1176: Mac Mini not POSTing, Fan spinning at full RPM.

My Mac Mini is not POSTing; It's spinning the fan at full RPM and not turning on when I plug in the power adaptor. I tried everything: keybinds, CMOS battery stuff, and clearing the power (by holding the power button while it's not connected). I tried to see if the 5V rail works at least by plugging in a charger that has LEDs in it, and it started lighting up (and charging my phone), if that's useful.

Mac mini Model A1176: Max amount of Memory A1176?

I know that the Max memory on the original 2006 model mini's is 2 GB. However on the later 2008 model mini's it's 3 or 4 GB. Is there anyway to make an early model mini use 3 or 4 GB?

Seeing as they use the same chipset in theory it should be possible.

My guess would be it's a firmware issue?

Mac Mini Model A1176: Mac Mini A1176 power LED stable but no other signs of life

Hi,

I tried to power on my mac mini A1176 today after it's been in the garage for a couple of years, the white front LED comes on and stays solid, but there are no other signs of life - no video, beeping, flashing LED, fans spinning etc. So far I have tried:

Multiple displays and cables.

Strip all parts down to and including CPU.

18.2v off the PSU on my multimeter.

Replaced PRAM battery.

No matter what I do to this machine, I get nothing apart from the solid LED light. I can hear a really really quiet high pitched whine coming from the CPU though. Any suggestions will be gratefully received!

Mac Mini Model A1176: Cannot boot into Mac OS X on 2007 Mac Mini

I'm having an issue with a 2007 Mac Mini I recently purchased on eBay. When I first received it, the Mini was working fine. I replaced the internal drive with an SSD, installed 10.6.8, booted it up and all was well. My problem started when I tried to use Boot Camp. When I started the process, the Mini instantly rebooted without giving me the option to partition the drive or anything. I exited the Windows installer and rebooted the Mini to try to go back to OS X but it would not boot into OS X and none of the keys would work to enter recovery or choose boot options. I eventually removed the drive, wiped it with another computer and put it back in but that didn't work either. I then went ahead with installing Windows to see if that would allow me to use other boot options but after successfully installing XP I still could not go into recovery mode or choose boot options.

Mac mini Model A1176: Sourcing chassis screws for Mac mini

Hello ifixit... I need to source the chassis screws (4) that hold the main assy to the base. An authorized repair outlet that I foolishly permitted to work on my Mac mini didn't reinstall them - threw them out!
Mac mini Model A1176: Mac Mini light comes on, but no chime.

I purchased a 1.66 Core Duo mini early last year, ran sata out the side, and upgraded to a T7200 processor. Over the past month, I got a couple of lockups under load (importing CDs), and once a GSOD.

Last week, I woke up to find my mini completely dead. The power light was still on, the hard drive was still spinning, but nothing going on. I powered it off, and back on, and it still sat silent. The light came on, but no chime, and no booting.

What I've tried so far:

- resetting the PRAM => fan runs @ max until I turn it off, front light does not come on.

- resetting the SMC => back to the normal state where the front light comes on, but nothing else.

- replacing the original 1.66 Core Duo CPU to see if I'd smoked the T7200.

- pulling one of the 1G chips out, and then the other.

At this point, is there much chance that it could be anything but a failed logic board? (The thing was quite dusty around the intake vents ...). I suppose it could be the power supply, but it seems sort of unlikely.

Nobody seems to sell logic boards, so I guess it's time to pick up the cheapest old mini I can find ($350 is what I've seen), or fork over ~$750 for a brand new one.
