Mac Mini Late 2012: Powers on, no chime, no video, need an EFI dump

Bought this mac mini from ebay, it had an EFI password (4-digit one).

Tried to modify the BIOS\EFI chip using a CH341A, but it didn’t go well. Killed the chip, and now I’m using a W25Q64FW instead of the original MX25L6406E.
The question is: is W25Q64FW gonna work (it’s also a 64mb 1.8v chip) and where can i get an EFI dump for 820-3227-B board with and i5-3210M?

Mac Mini Late 2012: No RAM detected, no chime, beep sound, fan at full speed

Hello. Got myself a A1347 mini with an issue. (MD388LL/A)

Upon boot up, I get a no RAM detected beep on repeat. The fan starts gradually spining up until it hits max rpm’s. Tested out both of the memory slots with a working set of sticks, also tested each slot individually but apparently it just doesn’t detect the RAM. Swapped out the battery too but to no avail.

The fan speedup curve reminds me of my PLT short when shorting PLT_RESET_L on a 2011 MacBook Pro, so I guess it’s likely a board issue, but just otherwise if I’m forgetting something maybe someone can chime in with an advice.

Don’t mind doing the board work if needed.

Thanks!

Mac Mini Late 2012: No signal for hdmi and DVI ..

Hi!

Please help! Mac Mini 2012 Late, A1347 (820-3227) looking for the answer .. Turns on, startup sound is on, fan is on, USB powered (even router LAN network can be seen in Apple ) Problem with no picture, no hdmi output, no DVI output none .. I disassembled it but based on the motherboard measurements everything “looks good”. I suspect the PS8401A ic error .. Got new flash and memory ic, situation is unchanged, unfortunately nowhere can I find circuit drawing, not even in paid places.

I looked through the sheet, I didn't find a burn short circuit.

(Test trial of two working hdmi and one DVI cable and trial of three monitors and one tv)

Thanks in advance!

Mac Mini Late 2012: MacMini Late 2012 shuts off 3/4 through start up?

Replace the drive or replace the mac mini?

How do I use a disk image to successfully restore the previous files?

My long everyday workingMacMini ( Late 2012) 16 GB memory & 265 Gb storage— starts shutting off 3/4 through start up after moving our setup back to our office this week — How do I know if it is hardware failure or software corruption? Replace the drive or replace the mac mini?

Though it would shut off mid startup, I was able to get it to startup Recovery Mode, but I needed to get files from it . No back up-(Yes, Stupid, I know)

After several failed attempts to restart, I finally was able to save a disk image file of the contents. In it I could see most of the important files I needed to have in hopes migrate the data to a new install.

So I wiped the mac mini drive clean and reinstalled El Capitan (after much a do with having to reset the date on my clock & using a wired connection to get it to restore El Capitan). I have been able to reformat the old drive and it has not shut down upon restart in several days but I think I would get a new hard drive anyway.

The restore from the disk image using disk utility would not work. no package could be found. no working Mac OS system I gather. could not use migration assistant either. So I was able to copy Just enough of the important info from the disk image ( parallels & windows 12 ask word documents) to an new user on another office machine w same Mac OS so it can be used for work this week, but I’m sure this is not the best way forward.

Many Thanks for any suggestions as how much to trust the hardware, get a new hard drive & restore form a disk image that seems to not be recognized usual restore options?

Mac Mini Late 2012: Infinite restart chime loop

Hi,

I have this macbook mini, I did replace the hdd with ssd, started to install the latest mac os (this was 3 years ago) and all the sudden something happend, I am not sure if it turns off or stuck on installing, but I remember i did try to reboot but since then and today still doest this infinite restart chime loop.

Check the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1P9nuKV0...

It gives 0 signal to the monitor.

So basically I did almost everything I could read on internet to fix, as I am working with pc hardwares, I did try to change ram, try it without ram, change new ssd, try it without it, remove the power cable let it like that for 1 hour, plug in, didn’t work, remove all cables, wifi antena, everything plug in, and never make it to work again. So, as far as I know this could not be an hardware issue, what else could be I don’t really know, I am not good with macs, I heard some people saying its a EFI Flash is corrupted.

If anyone can help me figure out what could I do with it.

Here where I live we dont have an official apple service I was thinking if its repear-able where could i send it and how much would cost…

Thank you

Mac Mini Late 2012: Test for Dead MacMini Logic Board?

Hi,

I have a Late 2012 A1347 Mac Mini. Doesn’t power up, no lights, no fan. I checked the power supply and getting 12v from the left pins.

Is there anything else before assuming this is a dead logic board ?

I have a DMM and can check voltages on the logic board, but not sure what I can check.

Would hate to spend $300 for a new board, only to find out it is something else, and still have a dead, nearly decade old machine.

No pops or anything unusual when was last shut down. No burned or smells from board. Nothing visually obvious on the board.

Mac Mini Late 2012: searching ambient temperature sensor

I ran a hardware test on my MacMini 2012 an it gave me the error 4SNS/1/C0000008: TAOP--124. I cannot use the Mac mini anymore because the fan is on full speed and kernel_task is on >300%.

I already know that the error is the Ambient Temperature sensor but i haven't got any hint where it is located. Similar threads on forums are always about MacBooks.

Do you know wether this sensor is on the logic board or is it external? What sensors does the Mac mini 2012 has?

Many thanks in advance

Mac Mini Late 2012: Mac Mini won't boot into Recovery

Hi,

I installed a Samsung 850 Evo as second drive in my mini. Booted into the existing OSX installation and made sure it gets recognized correctly.

Then, I created a USB installer, booted into it, wiped both drives (made a backup before) and tried to configure them as Fusion Drive using the terminal. The first time, it threw an error when trying to create the Fusion Drive, so the SSD wasn't recognized by diskutil anymore. After reboot, I repeated everything and it worked so far.

So I went on installing El Capitan on the Fusion Drive which was recognized as such. The installer did its thing and when the mac was rebooting, it got stuck. It stayed at the same value for about 1.5 hours, so I forced it to turn off.

I tried to install El Capitan again, but when formatting the SSD an error occured, again. I decided to create a Ubuntu Live USB to see if a partition fix would help, but I can't get to the boot drive menu anymore.

When turning the mini on, I hear the typical sound, but nothing else happens. I am using the wireless keyboard and unfortunately have no usb keyboard at hand right now. I guess, the mini somehow lost the connection to my keyboard as it doesn't light up if no button is pressed.

Is there any chance, I can get the mini back to live? Is a recovery via the internet anytime possible even if the disks are damaged?

I'll get a USB keyboard asap!
