MacBook Unibody Model A1278: Converting Internal MacBook Trackpad to External USB Trackpad

Hi there,

I have a "Apple MacBook Genuine A1278 MB466LL/A MB466 Silver Touchpad & Cable 821-1254-A."

It's the internal trackpad from a modern MacBook Pro. It has some kind of 22-pin connector on the end of the cable. Does anyone know if it would be possible to convert this trackpad into a standalone USB mouse that could be used on another computer?

Here's a similar hack for older model Macbook Pros: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVQKl-HV...

MacBook Unibody Model A1278: Audio jack problem, no speaker sound, red light

My MacBook has no sound except through headphones or external speakers. When I play a song, a red light appears inside my audio jack and there's no sound. The volume controller in the menu bar is grayed out. I tried poking into the audio input jack as mentioned in many forums, with no luck. Can I fix it by opening my MacBook? Is there any way to fix this other than poking something into the audio jack?

MacBook Unibody Model A1278: Display is dim and will not brighten

The image on the display of my MacBook Pro A1278 is very dim. I'm not sure but I don't think that it's the backlight since the image is visible enough that the laptop can still be used but the screen lighting is very dim. The brightness adjustment on the F1 and F2 keys do nothing when either one of them is held down. The brightness adjustment in the System Preferences doesn't do a thing to dim or brighten the screen image. Is this a common problem and is there a fix for this problem.

MacBook Unibody Model A1278: Water over keyboard, some buttons don't work

Yesterday I dropped a small bucket of water next to it was my MacBook, and a few small splashes hit the keyboard. Now the 5 and the "t" button don't work. Although sometimes they magically do and fall away again or when I press 5 a 1 appears instead. I pulled the buttons off and cleaned it a little bit to no effect. Any other suggestions? I'm very new with Mac equipment so forgive a newbie.

Update

Ok guys its been a while. The t-button went down for 2-3 weeks but 5 minutes ago it suddenly came alive, albeit not 100% operational it works! I never used the hairdryer thing because I taught it was too late, should I do it now? I'm very afraid the t-button will die again. :(

Update

I'm going to a Mac store tomorrow. Since the keyboard sometimes magically works and sometimes some of the buttons drop dead I think the problem lies somewhere else.

I noticed the battery is dysfunctional as well. When I'm working on battery power my laptop gets extremely hot and also doesn't come back from standby. A fully charged battery gets empty in a very short period of time.

I will keep you informed.

Update

I brought my Macbook to an local apple store/reseller and they confirmed that there was indeed water damage and the keyboard had to be replaced. This cost me 248 euro's. Very pricy considering just a very small amount of water fell on the keyboard.

I'm not an expert with laptops and this was my first Macbook(2009 version) so I decided to let them replace the keyboard. But I can imagine the replacement could be done by myself at a much cheaper price. But hey, c'est la vie.

I wish everybody success with this very annoying problem.

MacBook Unibody Model A1278: How to connect power button directly to logic board?

Hi everyone!

First of all i'd like to apologize for my bad english. It's not my native language.

So here's the problem:

I have an A1278 unibody macbook with cracked display glass and keyboard, spilled with coffe. Since i got it almost for free (4 beers), i've teared it down and threw it to the far shelf till better times.

Since "better times" came" i decided to make an imac-like desktop machine out of these parts.

And the only problem i faced so far, is that the power button is connected to keyboard. But i need it to be connected directly to logic board.

So i would be gratefull for the keyboard ribbon cable pinout or any suggestions!

MacBook Unibody Model A1278: Screen suddenly freezes then fades to grey then eventually black

Hello,

I have a MacBook (13-inch, aluminum, late 2008).

A few months ago I started having an issue with the display.

All of sudden, the display freezes and then fades to greyish/bluish then eventually black. During that I can see some sort of scan lines as well. When it's black I still can change brightness of the display by F1/F2. So it's not completely turned off.

It goes back to normal if I play with tilting the display.

Just for a note. A couple of years ago my Macbook was accidentally sunk in water. But when I tore it down and dried everything it worked fine since then (except the battery which I had to replace).

By googling reading some posts here I found out that it might be either inverter board or LVDS/video cable.

I've checked the LVDS/video cable connector to the logic board and it seems fine.

I haven't gone further as I'm not sure what exactly causes the display issue.

Also I'm not sure if I should replace the cable.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

MacBook Unibody Model A1278: Colorful stripes on screen - display replacement or?

Here's what I'm seeing on my MacBook screen: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1478968/Mobile%2...

The colors flash a bit or if they're steady then changing the angle of the screen can affect them. Playing with the angle of the screen or tapping the screen gently can also sometimes make it go away.

Apple said they wouldn't cover it for me (EU laws require a 2 year warranty basically), because of this bent corner on the lid: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1478968/Mobile%2...

A comparison: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1478968/Mobile%2...

This pushes the screen away from the body while the lid is closed. So my question is weather this is an issue with the actual display or more likely with the display cable? I know ifixit doesn't sell the cables separately, but I'm sure I could obtain one for much less then the whole display assembly goes for.

MacBook Unibody Model A1278: Why Airport still has no functionality?

Hello guys :)

At first: sorry for my bad english...i'm german.

I have a big issue with my MacBook 13" Unibody 2,0 Ghz. A few weeks ago i damaged the connector from the iSight, Bluetooth & Airport Cable that goes to the Mainboard. So i bought a new one and everything works exept the Airport. I thought i have damaged my old Airport card through my repair-session so i bought a new airport card from ebay. The seller from the card meant that the card isn't new but has 100% functionality. But after i replaced the new airpord card with the new one i still have no connectivity. OS X said, that "no airport-card is installed". Resetting PRAM and the other solutions doesn't work. Windows 7 via BootCamp still doesn't find a wifi-card too in the device manager.

So what can be the issue? Maybe the new card is damaged too? Or the connector that connects the airport card with the cable that i written? And when the airport card is the issue....can it be only the card or maybe the card + the antennas there next to the card?

One other small question? the cable that i plugged in the card has at one side a small white dot on it...in which direction the dot should looked to? to the user (away from the lcd) or to the lcd panel?

I hope anyone understand what i want to ask ;)

Greetings
