MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2018: Is it possible to upgrade Memory (RAM) and Storage (SDD) later?

I am thinking of buying a MacBook Pro 13" TB 2018 with 8GB RAM and 512GB SDD, and after an of a bit of searching, I found upgrading them both i.e. 8GB to 16GB/32GB RAM & 512GB to 1TB/2TB SDD will be cheaper than going with purchasing high-end models of the Pro models. Is the new MacBook Pro customizable in the future with iFixit guides?

I had done the same with my current Mac Book Pro 13" Late 2011 with the help of iFixit guides and its working perfectly ever since, but will it be possible for the current newer generation MacBook Pro?

Regards,

MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2018: Battery drains SIGNIFICANTLY after shut down

Hi, experts! I really hope to solve this problem as it has been drilling me for weeks now.

When I shut down my Mac, the Mac shut down correctly and I closed the lid. Left it in my desk until morning. In the morning, I felt that the Mac was warm to the touch and when I turn on, it boots up with Apple logo (like a normal startup, so it wasn’t sleeping) and it asks for my password before I could use Touch ID (so it wasn’t sleeping). BUT the battery had drained from 100% (when I shut it down) to 5%, if not completely 0 mAh left in the battery (literally 0% and won’t boot unless plugged in) when I turn it on.

I find this behaviour rather frustrating and it definitely consumes my charge cycle. When I shut it down and left it for some good 2-3 hours, it also drains around 20-30%.

Yes, I have once removed the Logic Board for cleaning (after some minor liquid damage around the iBridge Bus, which caused camera, Touch Bar, and ambient sensor to no longer work). But I made sure everything was dry and cleaned all the corrosion with 95% ethanol before putting everything back together. Couldn’t be I missed something that causes this weird problem right?

Things I have tried:

Resetting the SMC and NVRAM (and even T2 chip) multiple times.

Reinstalling macOS (I used 10.15.2 and tried downgrading + fresh install 10.14.6 to no avail).

Shutting the Mac down and not even touching the lid. So, left the Mac open after shut down for hours, and yet it drained too.

Turning off Wi-Fi before shutting the Mac down.

all to no avail.

Weirdly enough, if I just sleep the Mac, the drain was normal (just 1% drain overnight). Shut down, which was not supposed to drain any battery, was actually draining A LOT (even if need power for startup or shut down, those maybe drain around 1-5%, not 20%).

Please advise me on what to do. Thank you so much :))

MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2018: No option for "Adjust keyboard brightness in low light"?

I recently replaced the display on a MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) with Touch Bar and now the keyboard backlight is not adjusting automatically in low light. I’ve tried manually adjusting the keyboard backlight and there is no response. When I got to the appropriate system preferences for the keyboard there is no option for me to check or uncheck “Adjust keyboard brightness in low light“. It just lists the options “Touch Bar shows [Expanded Control Strip]“ and “Press Fn key to [Show F!, F2, etc. Keys]“. Has the keyboard backlight somehow been disabled, or could this be a result of a defective display? Thanks for any help you can provide!

MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2018: One USB-C Port Not Working - Repair Process Question?

The front right USB-C port on my MacBook Pro with Touch Bar 13” (2018) doesn’t work. Never has. It doesn’t charge, it doesn’t recognize devices, etc.

What would a repair of this one USB-C (Thunderbolt, etc.) port likely entail? Will the entire logic board or will they just be able to replace a single small part in the store?

I’m NOT eager to have to mail this off and/or have major guts from a brand new Mac replaced. Maybe it’s just a loose connection or something, or maybe it’s a bad port. Either way, I’m curious what folks here think.

MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2018: Right fan is running at full speed, PPF003 & PPF004 Error Codes.

Hi!

Something happened to my MacBook recently. The day before the incident, it was working normally, I was browsing the internet on it for a few hours. The next day, when I turned it on, the right fan started running at maximum speed. I reset the NVRAM and SMC, but it didn't help. I ran Apple diagnostics and it showed errors PPF003 & PPF004, so I decided to replace the right fan. Unfortunately, the replacement did not help. I also changed the thermal paste just in case and checked if the fans were clogged, but everything is in good order. Additionally, I unplugged and reconnected the keyboard connector. I tried to control the fan speed using the Macs Fan program, but the speed is locked at maximum (8000 rpm) and cannot be reduced in any way. The left fan can be controlled normally. I checked the temperatures and in idle, they are higher than usual, sometimes even above 60-70 degrees Celsius, whereas before I used to see around 50 degrees.

One interesting phenomenon I observed is that when I press the keyboard cable connector harder, the right fan starts running slower or even stops completely for a second before returning to maximum speed. Therefore, I plan to replace this cable as well.

The laptop has not been dropped or exposed to any water damage. Is it possible for something like this to happen overnight? Or is there anything else I can check before ultimately sending the MacBook to a service center?

Dear ifixit community,

MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2018: The hinges snapped. Is there anyway to replace the hinges?

At first the hinges wobbled a lot, I didn’t know I could tighten up the hinges, after some time the hinges snapped. Now the screen just lay flat whenever I open it, it no longer supports the screen. I’ve been to a repair shop (non-official, since they’ll probably still be cheaper than getting it fixed at an Apple store) they said the hinges of this model are fixed into the screen, therefore I’d need to replace the screen. That cost around 350 dollars. Is there anyway for me to replace the hinges without replacing the screen? Fyi I don’t live in the US. Thanks a lot!

I have a stage light issue with the 2018 MacBook Pro (A1989). It occurs after a few minutes of running (variable times) and whenever I adjust the screen to max brightness. I was mistaken in that it does occasionally appear at login. 'pmset displaysleepnow' fixes the issue only when the screen is not set to max brightness, yet it doesn't last very long (variable). It does seem dependent on how many tasks I am running. All display options are off. Have tried to reset vram but doesn't seem to have an effect. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Since this got moved to its own question I'll add that unlike the previous person with seemingly the same problem, whose Mac was in great condition, my Mac has taken a tumble a while ago, can't remember if the issues began then.

MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2018: Broken Butterfly Keyboard Key

One day, I was using my keyboard when the number 2 key was clicking weird, so I decided to take off the key cap to clean it out to stop this, but when doing so the entire mechanism came off. Is this covered by warranty? What should I do to get this repaired? I included a link to a photo of what it looks like now.
