MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013: No audio, and no "Internal Speakers" in SystemPrefs>Sound>Output

I am really stumped by this problem, and I'm really hoping you guys can help as I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue...

Basically, I get no audio from my MacBook Pro Retina 13" Late 2013 A1502 16Gb 2.6GHz - everything else works beautifully as ever with this machine (incl USB & power) apart from the sound.

It has *not* experienced any water damage or drops, but I'm pretty sure this problem started when I plugged in my external power speakers' amp to the headphone jack... just like I did everyday before that, but for some reason this time I didn't get any sound output and the volume feedback was delayed when I tried to turn the volume up/down.

Symptoms:

Built-in speakers don't make any sounds.

No sound coming from output jack (headphones or external speakers).

I see the volume no-access icon (circle with diagonal line through it) when trying to change volume

checked System Preferences->Sound settings: nothing showing up under the Output or Input tabs (no "Internal Speakers" showing up)

NO RED LIGHT coming from headphone jack... so it's not the optical speaker switch problem most people seem to have.

In "system information", when I look in sound hardware... no description for input, output, etc...

I've hunted and hunted all over the internet trying all various suggestions that others have had success with - I've tried all of the following, but still no luck:

I've tried all of the following in the listed order but nothing's changed:

repeatedly plugging & unplugging different types audio equipment to the headphones port (including apple headphones)

disk utility and run disk repair (no errors)

tried PRAM/NVRAM resets (I don't hear the "chime" sound)

tried logging in via a new user account

tried deleting ~/Library/Preferences:com.apple.systemsound.plist

plastic toothpick in the hole

looking in the hole with microscope & 1.8mm led to illuminate - can't see anything obstructions in the hole

I downloaded and booted the ASD software EFI and OS diagnostics - no errors

tried disconnecting battery then rebooting

an isopropyl alcohol swabbed q-tip cotton swab

I also went to see a Genius at the Apple Store - they did their tests and said "there's only two options:

replace the logic board as we don't replace individual components, or

use a USB adapter"

The logic board repair quote was extremely expensive as my warranty is over and the charge probably includes replacing all 16Gb of memory too as it's soldered in; and I said I didn't think that last suggestion was very Apple-like - I'd need to carry around an ugly USB adapter and an external speaker/mic device just to hear sound!

So I'm at a loss and need your help!

Everything else works fine on my computer, so I'm willing to get my multimeter out and start testing hardware but I'm not sure where to start (I/O card / Logic board?).

My logic board # is 820-3476-A

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013: Backlight works, but no display!

Okay, here's the rundown.

A1502, purchased in March 2014, has suddenly created a pretty nasty problem.

Went to boot one day and *chime!* but no screen. Apple logo on the back lit up, backlight was obviously working, but ZERO display workings.

Okay, so I plug in an external monitor. Nothing. "HDMI signal not detected." Okay, so I do the Googles, read the reddit, etc etc. Reset NVRAM/PRAM, reset SMC, no luck. Try booting Command+D Diag. mode, and output on external monitor! However, white progress boot bar hangs at 1/2way for 3.6 hours. So I Safe Boot (Power+Shift). Finally, I can use my external monitor! I can get into my mac and mirror displays, so that I can offload my data. Great.

I know the int. screen isn't working-- that's not the discussion.

Here's the question: When I boot normally in clamshell-closed mode, external monitor works perfectly. But the second I open the lid (i.e. use keyboard) EVERYTHING GOES BLACK AND TURNS OFF. Then, I must boot into safe mode to use the mac again! And the cycle repeats itself... What is the culprit here? Iris video card, Logic board, loose internal connector, or all of the above? Is the internal display issue and this issue related at all?

P.S. Congrats for getting this far. I know the writing is dense.

Thank ya much,

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013: Battery and charge issue after water damage

Hi,

So last week my 4 month old MacBook came into contact with tea after my flask spilled out in my bag. Thought I got away lightly... But it would appear not. After drying out For a couple of days booted up the Mac to great surprise that it was working fine. Except when I took out the charger... Bam! It turns off. The battery said it was 92% charged. The red LED was showing on the charger, however the system info said not charging. Opened up the MacBook and there was corrosion surrounding the battery controller on the battery. The water indicator sticker on the battery was red. The sticker on the logic board however was still white. So I replaced the battery with one I found on eBay from a stripped down Mac that had been tested and guaranteed as at least 80% health. Put it in the Mac... Exactly the same problem though. No matter what charge percentage the battery States, the Mac will not run without charger plugged in. Nor will the battery charge. The system info for both batteries also states Replace Now. If there was a problem with the battery to the extent that it won't work at all, then I would have expected the Mac to display Service Battery instead. Therefore I'm thinking an issue on the logic board? I couldn't see any corrosion at first glance.

Any ideas?! Could it be the battery again or is the logic board fried?

Thanks!!

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013: Vertical line problem on retina screen

I have been using MacBook Pro A1502, late 2013, 13" retina display over a year and i don't have the international warranty anymore. Now, i took it out to work the other day and when i came back home i saw a vertical line. I pressed the bottom area of the screen left-to-right hard where basically the cables or connectors should be, and the line disappeared. It's not exactly on the screen, it's on the black plastic below the screen that connects MacBook body and the display (see the image i have marked the area).

It was months ago, but now the line is back again. And, this time there are two lines. So, i pressed that bottom area again since it worked last time, but nothing happened this time, and 3/4 lines appeared instead. I pressed few more times, 2 lines are gone but there are two overlapping lines not going anywhere. I have attached images of the problem, also i marked the area where i do the pressing.

What do i do now, please help me out.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013: How to test battery with multimeter?

Hi all,

I have late 2013 MBP Retina 13" which had some water spill on the keyboard. it still runs fine and everything works fine however it shows an x in the battery indicator, it no longer registers a battery at all.

I tried resetting SMC and have taken the laptop apart to check the extent of the damage. both the battery circuit board and the logic board showed early signs of corrosion which i cleaned up with contact cleaner and a toothbrush. this didn't fix the battery problem.

Basically i want to narrow the problem down to either a logic board fault or the battery. if it is just the battery i will happily pay a service centre to replace. however i want to be fairly certain the logic board is fine before doing so.

Being the latest model its hard finding replacement parts or friends who are willing to lend me their laptop/battery. so i was wondering if there is a way i can use a multimeter to test the logic board/battery? if so how do i do this?

Any other ideas or tips welcomed and appreciated! have looked through other threads however they all relate to earlier MacBooks with easily available/changeable batteries!

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013: Change single key - What is the key type

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013: Help!- I need to uninstall Advanced Mac Cleaner!

Hello. Recently, and under unknown circumstances, three programs were downloaded onto my computer- Advanced Mac Cleaner, MacKeeper, and MegaBackup, all of which research has shown to be potentially fraudulent. As soon as I realized that the programs had combed through my entire computer, I deleted them by force quitting, dodging the many shady "free offer if you call this number" pop-ups, and putting them in and emptying the trash. I then used the Terminal to get rid of anything left(using Terminal>Shell>New Command, then sudo rm -rf Advanced Mac Cleaner, repeating for each program). I thought I solved my problem, but then I saw this in my "Recent Items", the uninstaller for MegaBackup was listed, along with a MegaBackup Server in the "Servers" section. How do I get rid of these plagues for good?

My MAC died. Placed the SSD blade into a OWC Envoy Pro with a perfect match. When I plug it via USB into a working MAC it does not show up. If I use disk utility I see it as OWC Envoy media. However, I am unable to see the drive so that I can remove files.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013: Can I upgrade my flash storage?

I just bought a 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display about maybe 2 weeks, so I'm not exactly sure on what model that would be.

I purchased the most basic option, but totally underestimated the amount of storage I had. I was wondering if I could upgrade my flash storage from the 128GB (or whatever it is) to maybe something like 400-500GB.

Most of my storage belongs strictly to my music. I have 2 external hard drive (one from my 2011 MacBook Pro, and another) so I know I can just run my music from there to my iTunes to play music, but I feel it will be a nuisance if I want to bring my laptop anywhere, without my externals.

Just looking for some advice, thanks.
