A few weeks ago, I decided to replace my macbook’s battery - after 5ish years, the only thing about this laptop (the best laptop ever made) was the battery life drained quickly. I ordered a battery + kit from iFixit, and replaced the battery. I conditioned the battery, but every time it discharged it would jump from above 50% battery to 7% battery, then die shortly after (i.e. a very discontinuous discharge). I received a replacement battery for the replace from iFixit, and replaced again. However, I’m still having the same problem with the battery jumps . I figure it’s unlikely to be the battery, but am unsure what else could could be causing the issue. I’ve reset PRAM and SMC.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2012: Why did my internal keyboard and mouse suddenly stopped working?

My macbook pro retina 13" late 2012 built in trackpad and keyboard stopped functioning abruptly.

It has been working fine and just today it stopped all of a sudden. I have absolutely no clue what happened to it.

It kept searching for a bluetooth keyboard. However external keyboard and mouse works, but whenever i unplug them nothing else works.

Power button is the only button that works.

My macbook is currently OSX 10.9.5

I searched on sites and it appears late 2013 had a EFI update that fixed it but i couldnt install any EFI update on my macbook pro.

Hi. My MacBook Pro (MD212) sometimes shutdown (not "gracefully") with no warning given. The date and time reset to Jan. 1 midnight. This happens when the notebook is on battery power. To be specific, it's more likely to happen when the remain battery is between 30%-60%. I have never experienced this issue when plugged in.
MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2012: Hard Drive/OS not recognized after logic board replacement

So my Late 2012 Macbook Pro 13” Retina works just fine on my existing logic board EXCEPT the charging circuit is whacked so that it never will charge the battery.

If you put a charged battery in, everything is great until you run out of power.

I originally thought it was the MagSafe board or battery but have swapped both with identical results.

So I ordered, received and installed a replacement logic board from IFIXIT. When I plug it into power, after going green then amber on the charge cable, it plays the reboot tone (which is weird, why does it jump right to life without input?) It searches for the hard drive for about a minute and then gives the flashing folder with question mark / no hard drive found. Tried SMC and PRAM resets, reseating hard drive connector and still no go.

I called and informed iFixIt who promptly sent a 2nd replacement. In the meantime, I put my logic board back in and confirmed that everything still booted up as normal.

Received the replacement today, installed, and the same %#*@ thing!

Am I missing something? Are the hard drive connectors a common point of failure and iFixIt just isn’t catching it in their testing before sending out refurbs?

Is it just that I got 2 bad boards and I need to try a 3rd?

Getting tired of pulling this thing apart so many times. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

First, sorry for the poor english. I bougth my MacBook Pro retina 13 late 2012 at april 2013. So i have used it for one year without any problem.

Unfortunately, this last week, i tried to turn it on, but it didnt work out, neither the led's mag safe connector turned on. The last time i've had used, it has worked properly and i turned it off properly as well with around 50 percent charged.

Right now, it doesnt make any noise or sign of life.

I took it to a Genius Bar in my town (Brazil) and they said at the same time they needed to replace the io board and the logic board, without performing any test, they told me it is "the apple's protocol".

I paid for the io board, they changed it, and it still doesnt working.

Do you haver any idea how can i fix it? Or what is the problem? I dont Want to pay for a Logic board without knowing if this is the real problem.

Thanks in advance

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2012: firmware lock on MacBook Pro

So I purchased a MacBook Pro from someone which seemed to work fine at first. But then I reformatted the drive so I could install a fresh copy of MacOS.

I noticed that every time I boot up now the lock icon shows up on the screen.

I did some research and found out it is a EFI / Firmware locked. I’m not sure exactly which one is the proper term or if both mean the same thing. Anyways, I have a spare MacBook Pro, same year, same kind of model and was wondering if i could just pull out the logic board from my spare system and put it into the system which is locked?

Would this eliminate my problem and have the ability to use my device? I really hope I can get an actual answer and not some sad person telling me its stolen and to give it back.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2012: Display Flashing On and Off but Stops with HDMI Connected

I have a Late 2012 Macbook Pro Retina that just started having a display problem. When I use the computer, the display freezes and flashes to black before coming back on (very similar to what happens when you plug in an external display or TV). It will do this about every 5-10 seconds, but it does not do it at all when an HDMI display is plugged in. The laptop display and external display work perfectly without the freezing and going to black, but the laptop display will begin doing it again as soon as it is disconnected.

I did replace the display assembly about a year ago after my phone slid into it and caused a small, isolated crack in the display. The computer wasn't dropped or anything. I opened it back up and checked that the display connection was still in place. I disconnected and reconnected the display, but the problem continued. I then disconnected the battery and the problem stopped fro approximately 1 hour before returning.

Has anyone else experienced this and found the cause or a solution?

Additionally, Is there a way to disconnect the HDMI port from the board so that I could test whether the HDMI port itself may be faulty? I suspect that something is happening to make the computer sense and attempt to configure to an external display that is not really there.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2012: Battery not charging after minor water damage

Hello,

My wife spilled the smallest amount of tea on her a1425 Macbook Pro Retina from late 2012. After letting it dry she tried to see if the laptop was still working. At first it looked promising because the system started up normally and everything was running without any noticeable difference until she tried to run in from the battery.

As soon as the MagSafe was disconnected the unit shut off immediately. After plugging back in she noticed that the battery status says replace now and that the battery is not charging. The LED on the MagSafe starts out green and then turns amber and stays amber while connected.

We tried to thoroughly clean the internals with isopropanol multiple times but it made no difference. I also tried replacing the DC input board, tried a different (new) MagSafe adapter, and tried a new logic board (820-3642).

Nothing seemed to make any difference. I would hate to have to replace the batteries because they only have a cycle count of ~220, but is it possible that the batteries are the cause of the problem or is there a fuse or resistor that could be the culprit? If you have any any additional questions please let me know.
