MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: MacBook Pro suddenly dead and does not turn on

Hello,

My Macbook Pro suddenly shut down and is not turning on, no chime, no Apple logo. There was no exposure to water. (However, I had kept a steaming bowl of hot water right next to the laptop. But this was in an open kitchen)

The Pro had less than 10% charge when it suddenly shut down. I charged it for another 10 minutes and tried to switch on, but no luck. I charged it completely till the magsafe indicator turned green, still does not turn on. So assumed that the battery is charging fine. I opened the mac and saw no visible corrosion or moisture(two tiny dots below the battery case are white and haven't turned red)

I have tried the following already.

1. SMC reset - With the magsafe adapter connected, when I do the reset the charge indicator turns green from orange.

2. Disconnected and reconnected the battery connector - still no life.

Its been only a year and three months I bought this in India. Could the logic board die out so soon? How to pinpoint if it is indeed the logic board?

Thanks a lot!

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: SSD upgrade to larger

Hi I got the new early 2015 model with force touch but I got the smallest 128gb ssd since that was the only one available in the store... couldn't wait.

I should be able to upgrade the ssd to 256gb without much problem right? But which one would one use? or is it only possible to use another original SSD?

Don't need to be a monster of a ssd, just abit larger to store some more media.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: Keyboard and trackpad are unreponsive?

For some reason my macbook keyboard and trackpad are completely non-responsive. I know for a fact that the keyboard and trackpad are not the problem.

Here are some other things I have tried:

1) External keyboard and mouse work perfectly fine. I can log into OS X and everything functions normally with an external keyboard and mouse.

2) I performed an SMC reset using the built in keyboard. As I said, I know the keyboard is good.

3) I can not reset the PRAM using the built in keyboard. I can reset the PRAM with the external keyboard.

4) I have tried to leave the Macbook working till the battery dies then leave it for one night without charging and afterwards restarting it with power supply plugged in and they worked but afterwards they in s random startup they return unresponsive (I have tried this for two times and worked and I trying my third time now)

Please don't fixate on replacing the keyboard and trackpad.

The keyboard works before the chime (SMC reset) and does not work after the chime (can not reset PRAM). It seems like the logic board is turning off the keyboard when it chimes. Not sure what could cause this. Does anyone have any ideas?

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: OWC Aura Pro SSD not recognized

I have a macbook pro 13” retina early 2015. I have High Sierra already installed on it and want to upgrade my internal SSD with the OWC Aura Pro 1TB for more storage. I followed instructions and swapped the PCIe SSD. Got into recovery mode but from Disk Util and Terminal typing diskutil list. My new SSD does not appear.

I the new SSD is inserted into the PCIe slot correctly and I should have the firmware since I am running 10.13.6 so any help as to why its not showing up for me to restore a time machine backup would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: Keyboard and trackpad don't work, loose cable?

My keyboard and trackpad have now completely stopped working. Before, they would work occasionally, and if it wasn't working I'd just reboot and kind of press on the bottom of the laptop and they would work, but that is no longer working.

The power key is the only one still responding, so I've been using a USB keyboard and mouse, but that isn't exactly practical to bring to classes.

My assumption is that it's a loose cable, as I was told by the Genius bar that the keyboard and trackpad are controlled by the same cable (they told me my laptop was scrapped and I needed to purchase a whole new one...how about no?).

Does anyone have any ideas or advice? What does the cable for the trackpad/keyboard look like so I can open up the bottom and see if it's loose?

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: Water spill on MacBook ... nothing happened?

Hey guys,

so about a week ago I spilled some water (half a glass) over my Macbook, shut it off immediately, wiped the water on the screen and the keyboard and let it dry. One day later I ran Apple Diagnostics which reported no problems so far and kept it drying afterwards until now.

Today I opened the Macbook to see what actually happened. Expected corrosion and so on but actually everything seemed normal to me except for a few things, but then again I'm really a beginner so that's why I wanted to ask here (the experts :D ).

Things I noticed (see pictures):

2 case screw holes were blue (corrosion?) -> I tried to remove it with Qtips but since these holes are so tiny, it didn't work. I also checked the surrounding logic board but everything seems normal to me.

The bottom cover had some signs of water spill --> do I have to clean these? And if so, how would I do it?

.. but apart from that I didn't see any strange things. It would be really cool if you could tell me what to especially look for. I tried to find the moisture sensors but weren't able to (how do they even look if they come in contact with water?)

Thanks a lot!

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: MacBook Pro turns off after a couple of seconds

Hi!

I've got an early 2015 13" MacBook Pro. Absolutely no water damage, drops etc

A couple of days ago it started turning itself off within a couple of seconds of me turning it on. This problem seems to be quite widespread but I could not find a solution to the problem anywhere.

TL;DR

Mac turns off within seconds(3-6). If any key is pressed and held the computer acts normally. Key can be released for a couple of seconds - afterwards any other key has to be pressed and held or the computer acts as if the power button was pressed for a couple of seconds and shuts down.

Longer, rambling version:

After troubleshooting it for what seems like years I've found out that:

-If I press and hold ANY button immediately after pressing the power button the computer doesn't turn itself off - it let's me log in etc

-If I let go of the button I was holding BEFORE I'm logged in the computer turns itself off as If I pressed the power button for a couple of seconds

-If I let go of the button I was holding AFTER I'm logged in I get the standard prompt -"Are you sure you want to shut down your computer now?" If I press and hold any button again, I can just click Cancel and the computer doesn't switch off

-I can let go of the button I'm holding and substitute it for an different button

-Funnily enough if I press and hold the power button at start-up I can use the computer normally. If I try to press and hold it later it turns my computer off as it should.

So yeah, that's what I've found - hopefully it will help someone with the same problem.

Any ideas as to what I could try? The laptop is still under warranty so if I fail to resolve the issue by Monday I'm having it repaired but I would really prefer not to lose my workplace for 3-5 working days.

Update (10/27/2015)

Dan - sincerest thanks for your answer. The laptop is covered under warranty so I really did not want to open it. External keyboards did not word as the built in one had higher priority, especially the power button.

mayer - I know it is covered under warranty, I even stated so in the original post. You are like those people who answer "just google it" when someone asks a question that has been answered ANYWHERE before. I wrote about my process of getting the laptop in a somewhat working order hoping it helps someone else, and that someone provides an obvious (software) answer I had missed that would allow me to not wipe my laptop and part with it for 5-7 working days.

In the end I ended up having it repaired under warranty. I learned a bit more about the problem but everything points to a hardware defect.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: MacBook Pro 13 early 2015 not charging even after replacing battery

My Macbook Pro stopped charging and I could only turn it on while plugged in, so I opened it and discovered the battery had swollen. But even after replacing it it's still not charging, and even though the battery indicator now says it's at 56%, as soon as I unplug it the laptop dies. The MagSafe light is Amber color so I guess it is receiving power but the laptop won't charge. I also tried SMC and PRAM resets several times to no avail.

Anyone knows what could be the issue here?

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: Really strange trackpad and keyboard problem. MacBook Pro Early 2015

Hi there,

I have a very strange problem with my MacBook Pro that I can't find reports of anywhere else online. I would really appreciate any ideas, because I am running out of them for sure!

The core problem is: the keyboard and trackpad don't work. But there are many weird things about it, as follows:

-when the problem started, it was fixed with a simple restart for a couple of days. Then an NVRAM reset was needed at every boot to fix it - strangely enough, the combination (CMD-ALT-P-R) worked on the in-built keyboard. The SMC reset combination also worked (SHIFT-CTRL-ALT), but nothing else did. The P and R keys, used for the NVRAM reset, didn't work for typing either.

-This worked for a week or two. Then the resets stopped working too, leaving it in its current state of needing an external keyboard and mouse to operate. A short while after the resets stopped working, the NVRAM reset combination stopped registering on the in-built keyboard.

-Reverting to an older OS, reinstalling the OS, and factory resetting the Mac did nothing to help. At this point, I thought, must be a loose ribbon cable...

-...then I discovered that they work absolutely fine when booting Linux from a USB stick, and on a Linux partition on my SSD! I added this partition when I found that they work on a USB stick, so I could use the laptop portably for some things.

-And a final point... the keyboard and trackpad can wake the Mac from sleep when on macOS, but cannot do anything else!

This makes no sense to me. I can't seem to think of a logical explanation. The fact that they work on Ubuntu proves that it can't be hardware, right?

Thank you so much for your time!

EDIT: I have now looked inside the laptop.

Am I right in thinking that this is the trackpad cable, running over the top of the battery and connecting to the trackpad here?

There's no water damage anywhere and I gave it a good clean out. One thing I forgot to mention before was this error in verbose mode (I think it was that - might have been single-user). Does this give any clues as to what the problem is?

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: My Function keys are messed up. Volume & Brightness keys don't work!

So yesterday I successfully changed my Macbook Pro Early 2015 trackpad.

All the parts were put on right places and nothing left wrong. After I turned on my Mac everything was working perfectly including my new trackpad.

But! Then I found out that my Function keys don't work properly. When I press them they do work correctly, but they don't do the stock commands like turning the volume up, down, brightness, next song etc ... Instead my volume button takes me to the dashboard with a whole new commands for these buttons.

I have been into the whole keyboard options and have done almost everything like ticking off the mission control settings. Unchecking the F1, F2 as standard keys etc. Everything like this is done.

Still! I can't manage to get the factory commands back. I really don't know how this happened.

I have tried PRAM and these kind of things without any luck. Notice that all the keys do work and nothing is damaged on the hardware, because when I press them they do work but in other ways.

I didnt have this problem before the repair. It is difficult to believe that the repair may have caused this because all the buttons do work properly, but does other things.

Here is a SS of the USB settings.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: Is it possible to upgrade the MacBook Pro 13" (Early 2015) as a whole

I love my Retina MacBook Pro (Early 2015), it is probably the last MacBook with best keyboard and all the ports. I want to use it as long as I can. However, it is kind of slowing down on performance. I would like to know if upgrading the logic board (with 16gb ram instead of current 8gb), a new battery and a possible UPGRADE of better quality retina display will help, or is it worth that? I plan to install a new logic board, along with better thermal paste, new fan, Intel 760p SSD (for power consumption reasons), a better display from newer MacBook Pro if compatible and battery. What are your thoughts on it?

Update: It seems that the capacity of battery has gone down to 95.7% (still good enough as per the numbers) however, the percentages go down significantly and even in Sleep mode, I’m losing so much battery power. I have reset the PRAM and SMC just now though.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: Suddenly popping, crackling sound.

I got this Macbook as a leftover from my dad. About one-and-half year has passed.

And now I found my speaker popping some weird sounds. Or you can say, it's the frequently asked crackling sound.

This happens several minutes after I turned on my Macbook. But after I left my Macbook for about 10 - 20 minutes, it doesn't happen again. The crackling sound disappeared for a time.

What do you think about this phenomenon?

Should I ignore it? Or should I go to the Apple Store?

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: Only power button works on keyboard

A friend recently spilled liquid on their 13" Retina Macbook Pro. Opening it up, there is clear corrosion on the trackpad board.

The machine wasn't booting consistently at first, until I disconnected the trackpad cable. I've been using it for several days and it performs completely normally - except that no keys besides the power button work on the keyboard. Of course, the keyboard cable is still connected.

Could the disconnected trackpad be affecting the keyboard? Or do I need to get an entirely new top case?
