MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: MacBook Pro A1708 screen problem

My MacBook Pro A1708 after start up shows stripes on picture at the upper section of screen. Progressively you can see more of this from upwards to downwards while the picture becomes clear from upwards to downwards. It takes 8-10 minutes and at the end there is a clear screen without any distortion until next start up. Please help! Any idea?

MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: MacBook Display and Keyboard lights suddenly stopped working

Hi there,

The display of the MacBook in question suddenly stopped working. Half an hour before, the MacBook was used with no problems but when it was opened again, the display no longer showed anything. The keyboard light also stopped working.

However, the MacBook itself continued to work software-wise, you could connect a 2nd display and use it without any problems (except the display itself).

Error is also present with active power supply, after PRAM and SMC reset and in single user mode. Accordingly, I assumed a hardware problem at this point.

However, after taking a look into the MacBook, no visible damage could be found.

When turned on, there is also no screen backlight, it stays completely black (and FYI: the battery of the MacBook is very weak).

My question is: Could the Tcon board be defective or could it be the power supply/connection from the LogicBoard to the Tcon board/display, since I got no backlight or any slightly visible changes on the display when turning the macbook on?

And could the keyboard light, which isn't working, also be related to this problem?

Or could another component be the cause?

Otherwise I would have bought a new display and hoped that this would fix the problem, but before I wanted to be sure, that there is no obvious point, which could possibly caused this and I'm not aware of.

Thank you very much in advance.

MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: I have black screen and fans stop working after boot

Recently I dropped my display so I managed to replace it myself but now I have black screen with no chime and fans stop working after boot. I reckon it’s something’s to do with power circuit board because I can charge it and Caps LED is on, I tried to use it on external display via hdmi adapter but no signal. Tried all resets option nothing works so I’m very puzzled. I don’t have the tools to test whether the board is faulty so it’s whether replace the circuit board or the connector to display

MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: Only fan and black screen after replacing battery

Recently I replaced the battery in my 2017 macbook pro 13” function key model.

After which when trying to boot all I get is power to fans and nothing else…no cap light on keyboard, nothing from the screen …just the fan.

I tried resetting SRAM and PRAM and this would cause the fans to stop/ power down but has not fixed the main issue of not being able to boot.

I got a replacement battery from Ifixit as they said it was possible I got a bad one and I even ordered a new power/flex cable that connects the battery to the logic board as the original one got a bit bent up and figured that could be an issue but still no booting.

I feel I was pretty thorough/ gentle with the repair so not sure what I would of/ could of messed up in the process but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: no charging from either port?

Hi all, just been handed an A1708 to look at. No charge so no start just flashing red batt symbol so at least that means video and some part of logic board working ok. Tried usual

SMC and PRM resets to no avail so i assume i am going down the road of digging deeper internally unless anyone has a good way of troubleshooting further without taking back off. After a little searching it seems that the dual port part requires soldering onto the board. Sadly not my area of expertise so trying all other avenues before handing it over to a more skilled fixer. Any ideas very welcome!

MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: (Minor) Water damage, ideas on fix or data recovery?

Trying to deal with a water damaged 2017 fn keys (A1708) - tea spill by my dad.

Any ideas on how to recover data at least?

Issue: MBP not booting anymore at all. There are some softwares with 1-time keys (cannot be deactivated via internet) on there we’d really like to save along some private data. Apple store wasn’t very helpful, besides proposing a fix for €1000 without even opening it.

Reading through forums, I understand its not easy to read out the SSD bc of the bespoke design. Opened it up, does not terrible at least to my amateur eye. Only the LSI sticker at the USB-C ports turned red.

Would greatly appreciate some tips, also for a recovery expert in EU / GER?

Many thanks

MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: ¿How can I test all components are working properly?

Hello everyone!

Intro: (SKIP if not interested in the background story lol). I'm new to the forum so sorry if I'm posting this question on the wrong subform (or even website). I have a MacBook Pro 2017 (function keys, 2 cores/4 threads base model with a 256gb SSD) which I need to sell. I need a laptop with much more computing power and it has to run Windows because of work. I see a more powerful MBP as a bad option given the prices of used MBPs and the fact that mobile ryzen chips are so much more competitive than Intel's, and bc I've loved using my Desktop Ryzen 3600 for more than a year now.

Issue: I've happily used my MBP 2017 for over 4 years now, but it recently fell from a short bench (thanks to my cat) and started having strange behaviors. First, CoconutBattery reported 0% battery and charging was impossible according to OS X. Then the CPU started capping out at 1.5ghz while using all 4 threads (but actual CPU performance was like 1 fifth of "normal "according to benchmarks). Then the fan stopped working and CPU/GPU started throttling even more. Then OS X didn't allow me to configure the trackpad, saying there was no external trackpad to configure (even though the internal one was working fine). I did some Google/YouTube research and ended up "diagnosing" the first problem as a faulty connector (the one in the battery daughterboard), thinking this would at least make the battery work properly and I would take it from there.

The thing is, switching that specific cable for a new one FIXED EVERYTHING. This was like 2 weeks ago, and I've been using it since. The first or maybe second time I switched it on, OS X said it didn't recognize my keyboard, but it worked just fine so I didn't worry, and haven't had anything like that happen since. The time after that, the keyboard background light keys stopped working, but they did once I turned the Mac off and on again. It's been 12 days or so and I haven't had/found any other problems. It works just like new (I also reinstalled OS X from scratch).

The real problem is, I'm "convinced" I found the root cause of MOST if not all of the problems, and I'd like to think the keyboard thing was just some software issue and will not happen again. BUT I also want to sell it at a fair price and I don't want to sell something that works "just fine" for a few months and then starts having problems (because of the fall and/or my "faulty" "repairing" skills). Is there any way I can test all the components and make sure they all work as they should? I've thought of a few options: I can do CPU/GPU stress test, and I guess I could try checking every key, one by one, to see whether they all work, which I've done to some extent but, is there any software or suite which can do that (other than Apple Diagnostics, which according to Louis Rossmann is useless in most cases)? Or should I just keep using it for a month and see what happens? Or should I take it to an UNAUTHORIZED repair center and have them check it out? (I don't trust Apple "certified" repair services because they switch whole components -i.e. motherboard, screen- instead of specific faulty parts -transistors, backlight- and thus charge insane prices and produce a ton of waste, and also I'm in Mexico so I don't currently have access to an Apple Store, and I trust "certified" services here even less).

Thank you if you've made it this far. I really appreciate it.

MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: My keyboard stopped working randomly. MacBook Pro mid-2017 nTB model

MacBook Pro mid-2017 nTB model (A1708) running macOS Big Sur 11.4; Display started showing stage light effect at the bottom around beginning of April, battery replaced with third party unit from Amazon in May beginning. In the beginning of June, display gives away to Flexgate issue (stage lighting + backlight turning off when display is opened past a certain angle like 45-50 degrees). June mid, display backlight completely fails, does not light up at any angle. And since the last few days, keyboard is unresponsive except for the power button, trackpad works fine though. Never been subjected to any kind of physical damage or liquid spills, and no software issues as far as I know. Is this computer even revivable without wasting like $800-$900? What can I do to fix these issues?

PS: I already tried the SMC reset & PRAM reset, etc, to help with the keyboard issue, but nothing worked. I’ve heard about a swollen battery causing issues to keyboard and trackpad, but this battery is so new and has been working perfectly and doesn’t heat up and holds charge as usual, so I don’t think that’s what’s causing the issue.

MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: Component burnt, computer with no signs of life

Hi everyone, I have a problem with my 2016 Macbook pro model A1708. I state that I perform repairs on other types of machines but not on apple.

Suddenly the computer stopped working, not showing signs of life, so I decide to open it to see if there was something understandable at first glance.

I find the schematics online and identify the component that has burn marks, the component in question is the inductance L2950 which is short-circuited to the ground, together with components C2951 and C2952. Trying to remove L2950 and C2952 the short circuit remains, which if I understood correctly from the brd file recovered on the network could be caused by the component present on the back of the card always near the two type-c ports named as U2800. Is there anyone who can tell me where I could find if he was the problem with the U2800 integrated circuit? Some advice? Anyone who has had the same problem? If it cannot be resolved, can you tell me what is the method to recover data from the SSD disk that has proprietary attack?

In leaving you to the attached photos I thank anyone who can leave me a comment, thank you very much.

MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: My laptop stays at 1% and won't charge

This happened a few days ago but I realized that my Macbook Pro isn’t charging and stays at 1%. It powers off immediately if I unplug the charger. It says “Service Recommended: The battery is performing normally, but its ability to hold a charge is less than when it was new. You may want to consider replacing the battery”. What does it mean “the battery is performing normally but you may want to consider replacing the battery”?? Does it mean the battery is already old? I’ve also tried resetting SMC but it didn’t even turn back on when I pressed the power button. I have macOS Catalina 10.15.7 and haven’t updated to Big Sur since there’s not enough storage on my HD. I bought this in Spring 2019 and I’ve been using for almost 2 years now. Since the March 2020, I started using my laptop heavily since I started working remotely (10hrs~/day). I gotta admit sometimes I left it plugged to the charger even when it was 100% and just closed my laptop without turning the power off. I guess these kind of things eventually made my laptop’s battery to go worn out but is this normal? I just wanted to see if there’s any way I can fix it. If not, I guess I just have to pay to get it fixed. I can use my laptop if it is plugged to the charger so I’ve been using my laptop for the last few days but I don’t wanna keep using like this since it might cause another problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
