MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017: MacBook Pro A1708 screen problem

My MacBook Pro A1708 after start up shows stripes on picture at the upper section of screen. Progressively you can see more of this from upwards to downwards while the picture becomes clear from upwards to downwards. It takes 8-10 minutes and at the end there is a clear screen without any distortion until next start up. Please help! Any idea?

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: 2014 and 2015 battery interchangable?

Hey guys,

Recently bought an early 2015 MacBook Pro 13" which had light water damage.

Opened it up and gave it a quick clean (rice everywhere...)

Only problem I can see is the MacBook can see the battery but wont charge and says it needs replacing (only 17 cycles)

The MacBook only works when connected to the charger.

Now I have a 2014 MacBook Pro 13" which functions normally.

Can I plug that battery into the 2015 model to test that it definitely is a problem with the battery before buying a replacement?

Don't want to waste money buying a replacement battery if that wont fix the issue.

Cheers!

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: MacBook Pro A1502 - Battery not charging and "Service Recommended" sta

Hi, everyone, I’m working on a MacBook Pro 13" (Late 2013, Model A1502). The laptop only works when it is plugged into the MagSafe charger. As soon as I unplug it, the screen goes black and the laptop shuts down immediately.

The battery icon in the menu bar says 'Service Recommended' and shows 0% even after charging overnight.

What I’ve checked so far:

*The MagSafe light stays orange.

*I performed an SMC reset, but it didn't change the status.

*I checked the cycle count in System Report, and it's at 950 cycles.

Is it definitely time for a battery replacement, or could this be an issue with the DC-In board or the logic board charging circuit?

If I replace the battery, are there any specific tips for removing the adhesive safely?

Thanks!"

MacBook Pro 13" Four Thunderbolt Ports 2020: MacBook not turning on but fans full speed

Hello, I got a this machine from a friend who said when he last used it he thought he saw smoke. I have disassembled it and cannot see any visible damage on the logic board. Using a multimeter I have measured that 3 out of the 4 ports manage to power the machine with with 12v stable with disconnected battery. the last port doesn't work I think. When battery is connected voltage is lower but rises slowly, the CPU gets very hot and the fans are off, also the component labeled 2R7 gets really hot.

I have tried 3 USB 3.0 to MSATA external SSDs.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: 'Some' non responsive keys GHJKL...

CAN a keyboard become 'faulty / some non responsive keys' during shipping process? It was very securely wrapped with a reliable service. Personally I cannot see this happening as the cable is difficult to come lose when it is screwed down inside (2015 Retina). TP / Power button are OK and they were able to 'login'. Item was not visibly damaged. Packaging was fully intact and no evidence of being squashed or anything etc. or was this 'sold' defective in the 1st place which is what I have suggested to the logistics company. @danj

Hello all, I broke the iSight/FaceTime camera cable on my Late 2011 MacBook Pro, I plan to replace the cable but I don't know what is the right way to do it.

Methods I've seen:
1.
MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Early 2011: Keyboard & Track Pad Odd Behavior

Power Button ✔️ Caps Lock ✔️ Track pad Movement. ✔️ I can perform a PRAM reset (Opt+Cmd+P+R) ✔️ Function keys all OK ✔️

Powers on OK, I arrive at the set up to screen (High Sierra) and no keys are responding exceptthe function keys & there is no click function from the track pad but the cursor is moving. Connections are clean & cables are undamaged & fully seated & latched. The volume, KB backlight level indicator & the display brightness indicator the level bar is in reverse (Black 1st white 2nd)! weird.

Everything 'Was' working before..... Track pad has been swapped out 3x with no difference in actions. Whats going on?

We have replaced the LCD connector which was damaged with a 2012 LCD connector on a 2011 A1278 and replaced the LVDS cable and we now have a picture, but this shouldn't cause odd behavior with the KB & TP? But it might be the cause of reversed colors on the display but we cannot fully varify until we can get past the set up screen.

UPDATE 11/03/26 - Replaced the keyboard and now everything is working well except there is no click on the track pad, having swapped over numbers track pads and their cables and cleaning and swapping over tension screws, it is still without the click function. I am truly baffled.

MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Late 2011: No output on external display

Hello all, I have a Late 2011 Unibody MacBook Pro with the Intel Core i7 and 16 gigabytes of RAM. I want to connect another display externally so I can have a dual screen setup and/or use it for presentations, but I noticed that the Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt port doesn't seem to work correctly.

Things I have tried:
Tried multiple adapters
(two of the same Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapters, and Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable)
Tried macOS 10.13 High Sierra (I run the catalina patch along with the OpenCore Legacy EFI loader)
Tried macOS 11 Monterey
Tried macOS 14 Sonoma
Tried just removing the hard drive and have it display the blinking folder with question mark icon
Tried Windows 10
Tried the Display Menu application on all MacOS versions except Monterey (macOS 11)
SMC Reset
PRAM/NVRAM reset
Those two things when re-installing macOS 10.13 High Sierra.
Clean out the mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt port, and dongles.

Observations:
macOS (all versions) detects and recognises the monitors, as in the screen flickers and recognises the brand and supported modes (within adapter limits)
Same goes to the pre-boot environment
Windows does not see the external display even after manual detection. Sometimes after reboot the integrated graphics in Windows is disabled due to a problem, re-enabling it brings back proper graphics but external monitor output is still not working or being detected.
All the adapters I've bought show the MacBook Air, not the MacBook Pro, although I've seen a review of someone using it on a 2012 Unibody MacBook Pro
A while back I had a different MacBook Pro model, still 2011 but the Early 2011 one, with the Core i5 instead of the Core i7. I was given a mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and same symptoms, macOS and preboot environment sees it, but no display out. I was told by the person that gave the adapter to me that they use it on their 2015 MacBook Air just fine with no problems.

Is there like a common fault or difference with these Unibody MacBook Pros with how they handle that specific port and why it seems to be temperamental with cheap adapters? I haven't tried the adapters I've had since other than specific Lenovo ThinkPad laptops and MacBook Airs, I haven't had the opportunity to try them.

I want to try one of the more expensive adapters but I don't want to spend money on something that is not guaranteed to work.

Let me know if there's anything I could do.

MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar Late 2016: Possible to re-fit battery cable locking clip?

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro 2016 Touch Bar (A1706) which had a faulty screen. I changed the entire display but the laptop was not turning on or responding at all. Upon further inspection I noticed that the battery connector did not have the locking tab to secure the ribbon cable - it must have fallen out as I found it in the chassis.

Is the locking tab required? Would this prevent the laptop from turning on? I tried using the power adapter and the laptop still did not turn on. Should it not at least turn on if the power adapter is connected?

As I have the clip, is it possible to somehow fix it back to the connector or is it not repairable once it pops off?

Please see the photo to get a better idea of the locking tab.

I replaced the battery in my 2018 Macbook Pro 13" Touchbar and when attempting to boot the device I am met at the initial logon screen with a battery symbol with an X and then no battery symbol after booting and no battery listed in System Information while running at extremely reduced speed with full fan due to BD-PROCHOT signal to the CPU. This is the second time I am replacing the battery as the first two after a couple years of use each have both started to balloon and cause the computer to shut off randomly and display incorrect charge readings. I have tried 3 different replacement batteries from different vendors and 4 battery ribbon cables including the original battery and ribbon cable with no change. I have reset the SMC and PRAM as well multiple times with no change. At this point, I believe there might be SMC or motherboard issues, but want to see if there might be something I am missing.
MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012: Ram Upgrade: can I use DDR3L instead of DDR3?

Last year I upgraded my macbook ram from 8gb to 16gb. (It's a Macbook Pro 13'' mid 2012 - model A1278)

It originally came with 2x4gb DDR3, and I replaced with 2x8gb DDR3L, as advised by a friend and after checking several online foruns.

About 6 months later the macbook died and I had to get the logic board replaced.

The thing is: "the guy" at the repair shop said the ram was probably the cause, because using a low-voltage ram on the system originally designed to use DDR3 ram caused the system to have "extra energy running around" and it fried the logic board.

I checked around online in all kinds of foruns and didn't find anyone talking about it. Lots of posts says it's fine to replace DDR3 with DDR3L. My friend still uses his macbook and nothing happened.

Has anyone heard about this?

The macbook is currently using its original DDR3 ram, but I still have the 2xDDR3L with me and I don't know if I should replace it again.

MacBook Pro 13" Touch Bar 2017: Battery Replacment and now will not boot. Everthing done correctly

I did the Ifix it replacement of the battery in the 2017 Retina Touchbar. Pretty simple. Put it back together and no power even when plugged into the power supply. Will not boot. I checked the DC + - on the replacement battery and it reads Zero. The stock battery, that was replaced, has a voltage there. I’m pretty tech savvy and know how to be cautious when doing things like this and have done tons of repairs like this before. I’m leaning towards the replacement being bad as it shows zero voltage, although I may be missing part of the equation on something this complicated.

Any Ideas?

Update (02/24/2021)

After further troubleshooting, I’m convinced it’s the IFIX it new battery.

Disconnecting the spring battery connection from the macbook to the new battery circuit board (above the pack) it boots from the AC adapter.

Now, as soon as I reconnect the spring battery connection, it will not boot. Additionally, when booted off the power adapter and no battery connected via the spring connection…. If I close the connection of the battery to the macbook (push the spring connection down)

it immediately shuts down the macbook and turns it into a MacBookEnd. So, I’m 96% convinced it’s the Ifix it new battery.

I already ordered a new flexcable for backlight connectivity but before starting this annoying process....and searching again for my exact error picture somewhere and anywhere.. I have doubts if this looks like a flexgate symptom at all Did anybody ran into this failure ever before and can give me his knowledge about what causes it? Computer turns on like a charm, screen does not show any normal behaviour ( no matter in whatever angel the Monitor is opened) though and jumps right into this "compressed stripe mode" I can "see" haha rather "feel" that the start up or even homescreen is loaded but that stripe is only about 3.5cm thick ( Photo) .And yes, external Monitor connected works 100% fine.

I make it Headless and use it, and there is no problem. But the lower plate has quite a lot of lifting, so what should I do?
